Took my road test last week and PASSED! All thanks to Monty and team. I opted for the 15 lessons package because 1) I've never driven before and also didn't have a family car to practice with, 2) I wanted to pass on my first try (AND YA GIRL DID THAT!!), and 3) the price was very reasonable. Coray(?) took care of all the paperwork for seamless registration and helped me book my road test a week before the year ended because she knew it was my 2019 new years resolution. Violet, who helped me with scheduling, is so sweet and accommodating. TIP: save your last lesson for the day of your road test so you get some practice in and calm your nerves before the most excruciating 10 mins of your life. JK, obviously exaggerating. It was easy peasy because I had the best instructors, Monty and Ali. They were super encouraging, so helpful, professional, knowledgeable and just made me feel so at ease behind the wheel. They gave me great tips and pointers, offered constructive criticism, and we had great conversations. Honestly, this place deserves more than 5 stars. With trips planned ahead, I decided to come to Perfect Park Driving School to take a couple classes to brush up my driving skill after having not been behind the wheel for over 7 years. The staff here are friendly, understanding, and are always happy to help. For first time reservations, you have to go into the office, choose a plan you want, make a payment, and schedule a reservation. They usually text you a few days before the lesson as a remainder. And for any reservations after the first one, you can make it in the office or call in. For my 2nd lesson, I made my reservation in the office but didn't pay until a couple days later over the phone because I didn't have enough cash on me and only an American Express card. I did 2 lessons, an hour on the local road and an hour on the highway and they were just enough for me to regain my confidence. The instructors for the local roads and the highways are both super helpful, encouraging, and fun, as they teach and give tips and pointers. At the end of the lesson, you have an opportunity to ask the instructor anything you want like what he thought of your driving and what needs to be improved. Overall, I had a good experience here. They accept cash and all major credit cards except for American Express. read more

I had a great experience at Perfect Park Driving School. I have been taking lessons from different schools since i was 18 years old and I'm about to be 33 years old. Ive renewed my permit 3 times and failed my road test twice. I decided to give it a one last try and i found this school. Monty is so cool. So patient. I decided to get my Driver's License through Perfect Park after hearing great reviews from another friend who used them over the summer. I signed up for Perfect Park's Complete Package with 5 Hrs worth of lessons. I took all of my lessons with Monty who is a great teacher, extremely nice and patient. Monty gave me lots of great tips of what would be on my behind the wheel test and he let me decide what I wanted to practice during each session. Perfect Park was easy to schedule driving lessons with and they were also able to schedule my behind-the-wheel test extremely quick. I successfully got my license and felt that the very tedious process was made easy with Perfect Park. I needed to get my drivers license in 1.5 months. I chose this school on a whim because it had the most professional website. I chose the 15 lesson pack. I passed the test on the first go! I feel comfortable driving now. I am happy. This school gave me everything I needed. That said, Monty is a great instructor, but there is a truth to the not so happy comments on yelp. This school has a potential to be 5 stars but yes Monty was exhausted most of the time. We were chummy but he was on the phone too much. I am sure if I had spoken up he would have paid more attention to our lesson, but I didn't so that's on me. Time is money so I was frustrated when the school forgot I had an appointment one time and was thirty minutes late to another. As I was leaving the country I didn't have time to waste. I am giving this place 4/5 stars because yes I DO RECOMMEND this place. Small businesses are hard to run and I appreciate their attentiveness. Lamont (Monty) and Nathan are excellent instructors, I went from being nervous behind the wheel with no confidence, to being a driver. They believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. My mock road test with Monty helped a lot, the day of my road test Nathan was able to help me get rid of my jitters by going over the driving procedures. Monty did not try to upsell me on more classes, I took five classes and one mock test I asked him should I take more classes, and he said no he was confident I would pass. I felt very lucky to find a driving school that was close by to where I live (literally 5 minutes walking). The prices were a bit more expensive than the other schools in Chinatown, but I figured the convenience of walking only 5 minutes were worth it. There is one instructor at this school, Monty, who is also the owner. Monty is a very charismatic guy -- talkative, friendly, funny. However, he doesn't really teach you much about driving... at all. He does make you feel confident about driving... but it is complete "false confidence." He doesn't seem to really care about his students... and instead only seems to care about the money that the student will bring. In regards to professionalism, Monty was often late by a couple minutes.. he would give you back the time but ONLY if you asked for it. He would often take bathroom breaks, have me drive over to McDonalds or Subway, and wait in the car while he ordered something for himself and his secretary. I booked about 18 lessons with him.. this should have been MORE than enough time for me to learn driving and pass my road test. Even after 18 lessons, I was still unable to steer properly, turn properly, and properly do parallel parking and K-turns. With Monty, you might need to buy 30 lessons to ACTUALLY be ready to pass. Monty actually kept pressuring me to buy more and more lessons, and actually told me to buy 30 lessons! With other schools, 10 lessons MAX should be enough for any first-time driver to learn driving. DO NOT GO HERE! WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND PATIENCE! TLDR: Cars are disgusting, teachers are unprofessional and sexist, and if you choose to take your test with them you will be hours late and not have the correct school-provided forms - I was never able to take my test. Only positive was that they did give me a full refund on my unused lessons (only after much arguing). To start at the beginning, when I arrived at the school for my first lesson I was checked in and handed two lysol wipes to sanitize the car. I initially thought, oh they are being COVID-safe, great, but no, it was for me to physically wipe grime off of the steering wheel and stick. The car was so disgusting that I would arrive in jeans and a hoodie in 90 degree weather just to ensure that whatever grossness was on the seats did not touch my skin. In addition, during the first couple lessons, the air conditioner in the car was not functioning. Besides the dirty cars, my instructor (Monty) was unprofessional, sexist and just a blatant liar. One of my lessons involved driving to the South Bronx Autoparts store and renting a car check-engine light diagnostic scanner, turning off the check-engine light and driving back to the school. In another lesson, Monty was yelling on the phone with the car's mechanic during the entire two hour session because as I discovered, THE CAR HORN DID NOT FUNCTION. However, this was not an unusual occurrence as Monty was usually yelling on the phone either with the secretary or with others during our lessons. Finally, when I arrived at the school to take my test at 2pm with all of the forms they told me to bring for my 3:30pm test (my learner's permit and proof of 5 hour safety course completion), Monty checked them over and said that they were good, and "All you need young lady, you are in good hands." At 3:15, when the car to drive me to my Bronx test was still not at the school for the 3:30pm test, I asked him if I was going to be able to make my test and he said, "Young lady, please do not worry, we do this all day everyday, we know how this works, please just sit down and wait like everyone else." Needless to say, I arrived at the test at 4:00pm. Once I got to the front of the line, the DMV worker looked at my forms and told me that I was missing a parental consent form. At this point it was already 4:30, and I texted my dad and got a digital copy of the form. I could have easily gone to a CVS and printed out the form, but Monty insisted on bringing it from the school. After calling him 20 minutes after he said he left the school, he said he was 20 minutes away. 20 minutes later, he said he was walking from the train. 10 minutes later he said he was 6 stops away on the train, and it became clear that he was just lying about where he was with the forms. At this point the DMV employee came back and said that they didn't have anymore time and I could not take my test. When I returned to the school to get my refund, the form was there waiting for me and Monty was in a car teaching a lesson, clearly having never left the driving school. I now cannot take my driving test as I am going to college and this was my only opportunity to do so beforehand. In short, for the hefty price you are paying for this driving school, placing it as one of the more expensive driving schools in the city, you are getting below-bare-minimum services. read more

This deserves more than 5 stars. For one the instructor Monty is fantastic. He helps you gain confidence and feel comfortable behind the wheel. you may feel nervous but he will ease it. He will talk you through each function inside the car. I had previously learned to drive before taking lessons here. So I did have some practice prior to taking the class. They will show you how to properly drive (I say properly because you can't do whatever you would do on your own during the road test). The place is nice and clean. The prices are good as well considering other schools. I HIGHLY recommend going there if you need to learn how to drive or perfect it. They will work with you and help you where you need help. I passed on my first try and I'm grateful. Pay attention you will pass. On your road exam don't over think it. I suggest you take a class before your test it will help. read more

If you're looking for a driving school within NYC, then this is the place to go. I actually came across this driving school thru Yelp, after having had an awful experience at another school (New East Auto Driving School). The other school pretty much discouraged me from continuing to learn for awhile, but this summer I grew determined to get my drivers license before I left for vacation. Since we live in the neighborhood, my sister and I dropped by one morning to inquire about the school, its prices and scheduling. We were immediately welcomed by a friendly receptionist who assisted us with all the information, and we at once knew this was the place for us. The prices are reasonable and well worth it because our instructor Monty was amazing. He was very knowledgeable while instructing us, and always made us feel comfortable. I never once felt judged, or as if I was being criticized, instead he always remained calm and gave constructive criticism in order for us to become better drivers. After the 5 hour class and just 5 lessons (my sister opted for 10 lessons), we both felt ready for the road test. Our road tests were scheduled as soon as we requested them, there was no waiting period which was essential for us since we were on a time crunch to get it done before our vacation. Mines was done in Astoria and my sisters in Staten Island. Of course we both passed on our first try, but we knew we would with such an amazing teacher who totally made us feel ready and confident. Monte and Roberto were great instructors and supporters. I've been driving for 7 years in other countries so just paid for a quick lesson on parallel parking prior to the test. Monte helped refine my technique, and also made me drive around the city practicing in difference scenarios multiple times, along with three point turns, General guidance on what DMV inspectors look for, etc. the DMV inspectors themselves are a bunch of miserable people who were quite rude, but the guys advised me through it and gave plenty of support and confidence. I completely agree with Stephanie. This was truly a disappointment. This school is completely unprofessional and do not communicate well among each other. My experience was very confusing as I let many instances of unprofessionalism in the beginning slide which was a huge mistake. My recommendation if you do go this route to be to call things out as soon as they happen as they will only get worse. The young lady who answers the phone forgets follow up in a timely manner and lessons were completely forgotten about, very disorganized. I was treated as though my issues were completely my fault but and clearly due to the other reviews, this is a reoccurring issue. All my requests for road test dates, were forgotten about and I felt as though I had to call a number of times to set this up. They would tell me to stop calling, they would call me. Never happened. I was told to come in talk about things in person. No one showed up to the meeting. I left this experience not completing my package and feeling very uncomfortable. I did my driving test with them today, with a one hour lesson/warm up. I choose the 1-4 weeks option; I had it by the second week. Girls at the desk are kind and professional. The instructor Monty (I hope, I have problems to remember names sorry Bro, LOL) is very polite, and he was on the point the entire time, clear, concise and with no blackouts in the explanations. Everything Sally H wrote in her review is an accurate description of Perfect Park Driving School. Monty is a friendly and gregarious guy but as Sally mentioned he doesn't really teach you how to drive. He makes you very comfortable as he takes you on Joy rides but he's mostly interested in selling you more lessons than in actually teaching you what you need to know. I took 10 lessons from him and asked him point blank to go over exactly what I'd be expected to know on a road test and he simply shrugged off my questions and told me I had nothing to worry about with a big smile on his face. His lazy approach to "teaching" is to drive to the same exact street in Harlem every week. He was only interested in putting in as little effort to teach as possible. The driving inspector literally yelled "You don't know how to pass a road test!" when I asked why I didn't pass. At 1st I was mad but it was true. Big mistake coming here and I can also support Sally's recommendation of US One Driving School. Golden Key is an excellent school as well. It wasn't until I found a really good driving school that I realized all the things I should have been taught in my wasted TEN lessons here. I don't recommend this guy. Also be very wary of all the 5 star reviews by people who have only written one review and that just happens to be his review. Do yourself a favor and look for a better driving school. I am so happy I was having my lessons and road test with Perfect Park driving school)... Well, my situation was not the easiest one. I was an absolute fresher when it came to cars. I had no idea how to start the vehicle!!! Basically, the only thing I was able to do in a car by myself was to put on a safety belt). I was nervous, very... Because everybody says that to learn how to drive in Manhattan is nothing but madness... Due to heavy traffic and number of pedestrians, crossing streets in all possible (and impossible) places, and generally due to endless city rush and stress level. I had time pressure. Due to my career obligations, I had a time deadline to get my driving license. I found Perfect Park info online and was lucky Mr. Lamont Hart (the instructor and the owner of the business) was available to start my intensive course of classes in order to prepare me for my road test. He was patient, knowledgeable and easy-going at the same time, which helped me to shake off my nervousness. I can't but mention Elle, she is one of the responsible for running the administrative services of the school. This super friendly young lady was extremely helpful, trying to meet my schedule and set up lessons in best convenient way for me. As a result, I passed my road test at first attempt only 1 month and 3 days later after my 1st lesson. I am not saying that everything was perfect. There were issues like re-scheduling of few lessons, being late due to traffic, etc.. But they were so minor and insignificant, that it's not even worth mentioning those. Overall, I am highly satisfied and definitely would recommend this driving school. Ok, to summarize)))... learning how to drive in the city is not easy(... It takes lots of time, it's quite expensive, it's stressful. So if you want to make it a bit easier for yourself- go to Perfect Park Driving School. They are indeed professionals. This driving school is the best! It's so much better than all the other driving schools in the Chinatown/downtown area! I had previous experience driving but I still had a fear of driving. My teachers gave me helpful tips on how I can improve and pass the test. The teachers are attentive and will make sure you understand the proper driving etiquette. They also help build my confidence in driving by thoroughly explaining everything and giving helpful feedback! I feel like the teachers really care about you because they go beyond what is needed for passing the test and actually give helpful tips on how to drive on the roads. A lot of the 5 star reviews are super fishy and there seems to be a few negative reviews that have been removed. My experience with this business in this pandemic was terrible. I understand that they have to take temperatures to protect the employees and customers but it's currently Summer with temperatures in the 90s. When I first got my temperature measured at the front desk, it was 99.8 F. Okay, fine, that's a low-grade fever but I had spent the last 30 minutes walking outside in the sun. In another 5 minutes, I asked them to retake my temperature and it went down to 99.4 F. I guess this is still considered a low grade fever so I went across the street to Starbucks to grab a drink. I came back a little after and Monty was the one that took my temperature. It was 98.8 F and he still refused my business citing the CDC even though at that temperature, it can't even be considered a low-grade fever anymore. After that, I tried to just schedule the lesson for next week and pay over the phone since I understand they don't want to risk it but Monty told me I wasn't being "nice" and I should come back in 2 weeks. Yeah, that's not happening sir. I can tell when you don't want my business and I'll let everyone know about this experience. read more

I was unexperienced driver, but Monty took great care of it since the very first class. He said you'd learn how to pass the road test and how to drive in crazy NYC traffic! Every class was fun and useful, he's happy to teach you extra stuff if you want to. I didn't pass it from the first try, but they were very cooperative and helped me out to get it done next time. Definitely recommend - also you learn to drive in the city, facing real-life situations at Manhattan, rather than empty streets outside NYC. Nate is nothing short of being the undisputed KING of drivers ed in NYC. I passed my road test on the first try, all thanks to hjm. I am a 28 year old New Yorker who was terrified of learning to drive, didn't even know how to start a car - but then I came to this WONDERFUL school and now feel beyond comfortable driving in the city, on highways and outside of the state - all thanks to 15 hours of drivers ed with Nate in just 10 days. I loved his energy. His enthusiasm made the time fly by. The instructor was able to get me a 5 hr class on the day that I wanted on such short notice on my part. The class was informative. It taught me about safe driving habits (especially geared towards young adults and teens like myself). He then engaged me in conversation about what I had just seen to make sure that I understood the content. It is in a great location. A block away from The J, F, M and Z train. Instructor is ok but the school is very rude and unprofessional. The first impression I had for this school is nobody is in charge for this school and they have huge communication problem among client, instructor, and receptionist. I've been told when's my road test on the day of my road test. I was fully not prepared and ready for the road test. And they called me in the morning and tell me my road test is in that afternoon. But they rescheduled it for me which is good. On the positive side, their lessons are flexible. They let you to decide when you wanna do your lessons. Their price are reasonable and acceptable. I passed my road test!! Monty is the best instructor in the city, hands down!! Here are the reasons why: affordable prices, treats you so kindly as an adult newbie driver, is the most kind and empathetic instructor, very professional, patient, precise on-time car lessons, and fair. For our drive out for the road test, Monty got us snacks and juice to distract us from how nervous we were getting. Everyone in the office was super helpful and sweet throughout my lessons/scheduling, as well. They were able to get me a test ASAP even though it's not normally possible to get one until a month from when you look online to schedule one - that was so helpful. They also never tried to get me to sign up for more lessons than i was comfortable with which I always appreciate with any business as I like feeling I've made my own decision on these kind of things (even though I was definintely wrong and I did end up needing more lessons haha grrr) - they really are an awesome team. Oh and Nathan is awesome too!! They also have a new training car which is great. This is probably the best driving school in town.
