I walked in with 2 bikes that needed help getting back on the road. Knowing nothing about bikes, I tried to explain what was happening and hoped I made sense. Mason took both bikes to the back and had them both fixed within 15 minutes. While I knew they didn't need major work, I expected to leave the bikes with them until they could find time to look at them. Both bikes needed the cable tension tightened and air in the tires. While being a minor fix, Mason took care of me just like I was one of their biggest customers. We aren't the most avid bikers but GRBC has earned our business going forward. read more

That's how impressive the crew was at Grand Rapids Bicycle Company in Ada. They greeted me upon walking in, amswered all my questions, and provided detailed insights. They worked seamlessly as a team. They never made me feel rushed even though I arrived shortly before the store closed. When I mentioned that I didn't have a way to transport the bike to my home, they offered to deliver the bike for me. They even offered to deliver it that same night if that worked best for me despite that being after closing time. They followed through on it too! Fist things first, the staff is amazing. They are very knowledgeable and can answer almost any question you can think of. It's in the quaint town of Ada and is perfect for the town. It's a big place and anyone can find the right bike of them. They do an Ada Bike Race once a year and it's to great to see the town out and about. Another great thing is their hours... they are open to help customers out. You know that nightmare where you forget a crucial piece of something to complete a task? Today it really happened when I showed up for a triathlon in Michigan and my bike pedals were on another bike in Illinois and we didn't realize it until Saturday at 4:58 pm. Not only did these guys answer the phone at closing time, they stayed open for me to rush to the shop to get pedals so I could still race. Alex is a true pro at bike fitting. I brought my P3 in as a last effort to make the aero position more comfortable and dynamic. The fit was thorough, detailed and highly personal. Purchased my Cannondale cross bike here 3 years ago. The sales and service staff were / are friendly and knowledgeable (Mason, Ted, Steve...etc). I genuinely like all of them. Have purchased all of my bikes and related gear from them for years. It was always nice knowing they were close and I could stop in anytime and have the service teams make quick adjustments as needed. Now, here's why I'm giving 2 stars....One of the big reasons I purchased my bike at ABS was because they offered free life time tune-ups when you purchased your bike there. It was a great incentive to get my bike tuned up each season and again, was a big factor in my decision to purchase. That said, I stopped in last night because I was having a problem with my gears. The mechanic was great and solved my problem in short order. However, when I asked about doing my seasonal tune up, I was informed that the store is under new ownership (new owner also owns GR Bicycle Shop) and the new owner decided he was loosing too much money ($70K per year) by sticking with the lifetime tune up policy. Because of this, he decided to eliminate the free lifetime tune up and instead offer a "preferred" price of $45. I understand implementing this policy of no free tune ups for new purchases, but not grandfathering it for previous purchasers unacceptable. If the almighty dollar is more important than honoring a long-standing commitment to the customers of the shop, then this isn't the kind of ownership I want to do business with. Who knows, maybe they are big enough now that they don't care if they loose customers as a result of the new policy? I do know this, by not grandfathering my $45 tune-up (which probably costs him $25), he just lost out on my $500-$1000 per year of related purchases....plus the shot at supplying my new 29, which I'm picking up for the Ice Man this November. Bottom line....from this point forward, the crew at Village Bike Shop in Cascade will have all of my business. read more

I bought my first tri bike from them. I had no idea what I was getting into when they talked about doing a "fit test" so you & your bike worked together. This experience was so amazing! I have ridden my tri bike 3 times now &, although it takes a little getting used to because of the new riding position, I absolutely love it. The staff is very accommodating & friendly. Bought a $2,400 mountain bike there in April 2013. One free tune-up per year as long as I owned the bike was promised. New owners came in later that year. Went in today for a tune-up and they said no free tune-ups under the new ownership. Seems only right that the new owner would honor prior owners policy. A tune-up is basically labor only & might even sell some parts as a result. They must think they're the only bike shop in town. Guess where I won't be going when I buy my next $4,000-$5,000 bike? read more

The WORST Bicycle Company in Michigan! I hate this place. I bought a Fat Tire bike, and I had several issues with the cables (which I didn't notice when I bought the bike) and they would not warrant the bicycle whatsoever. It was about 1 week later and they still charged me to fix it. They argued with me and made it out to be my issue, even though the shifters were really not adjusted property from the beginning. Just a shitty business period. Pay extra for bad service? I WILL NEVER BUY A FAT TIRE BIKE FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN. read more
