We went to their home opener at Northview High School recently and had a lot of fun. There were many cheering sections for individual players, and the atmosphere was friendly and exciting. Unfortunately they lost 87-0, but I still enjoyed being out watching some football! I don't know how/if the rules differ from NCAA or pro football but the general gist of the game is the same. They had a table selling merch, with lots of cool shirts/sweatshirts. I love being able to support local sports teams, so I'm looking forward to catching another game soon! They only have three home games this season, so be sure to check out their schedule.

This place has all of the right trappings to make you remember what the experience used to be like. Right down to the candy and pop being available behind the counter. The pinball selection is terrific, best I've seen outside of the pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. A nice mixture of retro and modern machines. I was also impressed to see that every single machine was up and running with none down for maintenance. I was also happy with the selection of retro video games. Virtua fighter two used to be fun, I'm not as good at it as I used to be, lol. I would certainly enjoy coming back!

I used to play shows here with my band, and I have been to hundreds of local and not-so local shows over the years. Skellies isn't located in the best part of town, but it's a pretty safe place to be. The cover to get in, when a band is playing, is rarely over 7 bucks, and the inside of it is fucking awesome. Sure, scenesters took over, but I still love it.

But there I was, making my way through all of the exhibits, when I came across an exhibit about the Polish immigrants who settled in Michigan. My maternal grandmother's parents (my great-great grandparents) emigrated from Warsaw, Poland, to the Detroit area of Michigan more than a century ago, so the exhibit I was looking at pertained directly to me, in a way. It made me wish that my grandma was still around, so I could ask her questions. The room that the exhibit was in was empty and quiet. (It seems like the historical exhibits aren't as popular as the hands-on kid-friendly exhibits). So, it was nice to take in all of this information by myself, quietly. I read about Michigan's Polish culture, and looked at all of the items on display, and thought about what my great-great grandparents were like, living in Michigan. My experience sounds much more sobering than it really was! Really, my family and I had a great time exploring all three floors of the museum. There are lots of things to do. There's a room with giant games, there are displays of taxidermied animals, there's a recreated old-timey Grand Rapids downtown, there's a planetarium for an additional fee, there's a shark exhibit that may or may not be there when you visit because it's temporary. Apparently, there was also a carousel, but I didn't see it! Maybe it was still being repaired. We spent a good hour at this museum, but could have easily spent more time if we weren't on a schedule. The great thing about the Grand Rapids Public Museum is that there's something for all ages. There are things for young kids to touch, and lots of things for older people to read. Truly, this is a museum that will entertain everyone.

They host open mic nights (usually free), comedians, and niche musical artists. I believe the venue only sits around 100 people, but the intimate space makes for fun shows where artists can interact with the audience. There is a full service bar in the back and they serve a few snacky-type foods (popcorn, pretzels). Ticket prices range, and I think it's based on who they book. So just be in tune to their website for info. If you park in the "STUDIO PARK(ING)" ramp, they will validate the parking ticket. My experience seeing shows here has always been positive. Midtown is also a part of the Listening Lawn performances in the summer! Overall a 5/5 rating.

One of the nice things about this venue is that there's not really a bad seat there, due to the small size of the room. It's pretty cozy, but I like the more intimate setup for shows. I will say that we could hear the concert happening outside on the lawn throughout the set, which was a bit distracting at times but not too bad. A server will take your order right from your seat - they have a small drink menu and a couple snack options. They only had one mocktail option available - a lemonade drink which was really sweet but tasty. I wish they had the other non-alcoholic drinks that One Twenty Three offers downstairs. Drinks are pretty pricey, and I'd skip the snacks and just head to One Twenty Three for dinner before or after the show. They close out your tab automatically at the end of the night and add a 20% gratuity. You can still ask to see your bill if you want to check the total, etc. I think this is useful so you don't have to flag down your server to close out your tab if it's busy. I still really like this venue, and will continue to seek out shows here.

The staff could not have been nicer, especially the manager Markayla. She was very kind and saw that my grandson's bottle dropped and offered to wash it for me. She even opened the restaurant so I could order a drink. The entire experience was great, and my daughter in law joined so she can take her children there regularly. Highly recommend.

We went to see a summer blockbuster and decided to try their Ultra Plus extra experience. It was…read morefrankly unacceptable. We have smart devices that warn of loud environments. The opening sequences and dialogue was at 85db. We tried to put up with it for a bit but after an action sequence started to reach 100db I went to talk to the staff. They said they would not reduce the volume and that was the point of the Ultra experience. I asked for earplugs and was told to use toilet paper. Our cashier was super nice. Offered to let us see a different non ultra experience and to comp us appetizers and meals. In the end our ringing ears forced us to ask for a refund. The theater is nice and clean and clearly very new. The service is mixed with helpful and less helpful employees. The sound issue is a health and safety issue and should be investigated. Hearing protection should be provided for employees and theater goers to the ultra experience.
