We were scheduled to stay at this resort in July 2026, at the height of the forest fire smoke. Given that the AQI was at a record low, we decided we would forgo the stay and cancelled last minute. The resort was very understanding and allowed us to cancel day-of and not charge a penalty. While we can't comment on the facilities at the resort, the friendliness of the staff was truly amazing. We will definitely stay here next summer when we try to do our north shore vacation again! read more

The location of Grand Superior Lodge is amazing, just steps from Lake Superior, and you're almost guaranteed to hear the waves from your room. We stayed in a pet friendly Lake Home Guest Room, and the room itself was nice. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a big bathroom. One thing to note is that the entrance to the neighboring guest room is right next to your door. We were lucky the first night and had no neighbors, but the second night we did and my dog barked at every footstep she heard. Next time, out of respect for our neighbors (and to give our dog more space) we'd probably opt for a pet friendly cabin instead. One nice thing about the guestroom is that you do have a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was just okay. We ordered takeout for both dinner and breakfast, and while it was fine, nothing really stood out. I was really looking forward to using the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sadly, the pool was closed during our stay. The hot tub was open, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the bubbles on, which was a bit of a letdown. The lodge does seem to offer great amenities like bonfire pits and s'mores, which we were excited about. Unfortunately, they weren't out while we were there. I know these are weather dependent, but the weather didn't seem that bad while we were there. The staff were incredible, everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were nice and accommodating to any request we needed. read more

My Fiance and I went to Lake Superior Burger Co., which is connected to the Lodge, and the setting was lovely. Right on Lake Superior! The food and brewski options were also great. However, the service as we dinned was very slow and delayed; we thought... no big deal, we're in no hurry! As we sat and waited quite a while for our food, we began observing what a wonderful space this would be to get married! I immediately got on their site and contacted their wedding coordinator. This was late August. Late September I got an email back from a gal... she was okay, not a lot of info given, so I took it upon myself to ask a few questions. A few weeks later she responded with a second gal on her email to chat with for questions. So, I again, immediately contacted the second gal and asked her my questions. She responded a few days later with 'yes, we can do that'. Do what? I had a few different questions. I responded asking for a bit more detail (mind you, I'm in no hurry here, I imagine their position is busy and demanding). It's now mid-November. I haven't heard back. Which is too bad, really. What a stunning place to have gotten married! Needless to say, we are taking our business down the road to a beautiful location where everyone is very nice and responsive. Cheers! read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would!! What a wonderful place to stay, eat, drink and be merry with friends, family or even on your own! We visited with 3 other couples, the staff was amazing, friendly and helpful, very down to earth people. But honestly ever person we encountered from Minnesota was amazingly friendly and welcoming (even the drivers are courteous ). My wish would be that these people never change, so refreshing. If you have attitude, pls stay home . Ok, rooms were clean and well cared for. Views from the property are breathtaking. Restaurant service staff, food (taste, quantity and presentation), price all good A plus (w/8 people it's expected someone might have a slight problem... NOT so) 100% in agreement that everything was wonderful (we had brkfst, lunch and dinners here). Sometimes a little slow but nothing to complain about. Enjoy the view, it's worth it. All 4 room accommodations were great too. No complaints. Only 1 recommendation, do something to allow for some shade on the back patio. We hope to return. Room was nice. We'd stay again for the room, and upon check-in the front desk folks were nice. However, everything closed early, and their sheet of rules stated that no one was available late at night and if they had to call for someone to come for any reason, it could be a charge. Um, what? The mentioned hockey players - and if you can't control your guests, it's not on us. They need to staff someone all night. Food - We spent $120 for the most expensive appetizer and bad wine for one that you could ever order. DO NOT pay for their "snow globe experience" at their onsite restaurant. Because our romantic supper was terrible and ruined, we were hungry and tried to go get something from the gift shop to eat before 9:30p and they had "already counted out their cash drawer" and couldn't help us. Suggested we drive 10 minutes for fast food in Two Harbors. They were closed early! Nice customer service. #FAIL The next days staff were a vast improvement and just fantastic friendly women! Wish we would've had them the evening before. We refused to eat there again after the expensive snow globe debacle, so can't speak to the regular restaurant food or service, but we were in the bar for a couple hours one of the evenings enjoying the nice view with some drinks and the bartender was very nice and attentive. read more

Wow, did they ever let this place go to hell!!! Horrible staff they were totally clueless, rude and NOT well trained! Restaurant is a huge joke. 2 employees total on a Friday and Saturday night. Waited for 1/2 and no one even greeted us. 4 other groups walked away. Rooms are nicely laid out but filthy!!! Whoever is in charge of operating this resort needs to be terminated! Perfect little getaway spot up by the north shore! I thought our room was going to be more of a cabin, but it was a glorified hotel room on an upstairs level of a lake house/condo. It was a pet friendly room which I wanted, so I was happy enough. It had some old pet stains in the dark green carpet though. I think it would look a lot nicer if they tore it out, and put all hardwood flooring in or something. I had a few questions, but every time I would go to the front desk there wasn't anyone around to really talk to, and on the last day before we left I found the guide in our room kinda hidden. That would have really helped if it was in sight the day we arrived. I will say there was a lady working on the first day who helped us so much over the phone when we had ended up with a flat tire, and gave me some local phone numbers etc. The restaurant on-site is so good, especially the different sandwiches on the dinner menu. The pool and hot tub area is a nice option for a cold evening to relax. They offered some nice amenities, and this location was pretty central if you are wanting to check out some of the amazing state parks in the area. This resort also is right on the Lake Superior shore, so right outside of our room was beautiful when we would walk out! read more

Extremely slow service from greeting at restaurant reception, to getting drinks, to taking orders of food. Employees were sullen and did not seem to enjoy their jobs. After ordering coffee and waiting forever to get it, as we were ready to order our breakfast the server came and said they were no longer serving breakfast and had to get us new menus. So we had to completely rethink or food orders after sitting there for 30 mins already (and our coffees did not go with lunch burgers.) Coffee was tinny tasting. From entering restaurant to getting actual food it took over an hour. Biscuits were SO greasy and not good. Fries were over greasy too, wild rice soup was too salty and coagulated, burgers were decent though nothing to rave over. We were seated at the windows and the view was exquisite, however it was freezing. Asked to have heat turned on, and were told they would not do that for guests. Overall experience was not good and we will not come back. Gave 2 stars only for the view and the meh burgers. read more

RUDE STAFF - POOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE --Help!!! Why is the staff so unhappy and unfriendly to customers? They could careless whether we stayed/eat there or not. I recommend training for the entire customer facing organization...including management. Who is managing this establishment? Hello...it's starts with you! Inspect what you expect! The bar and restaurant hostess/bartender on 7/18/21 was horrendous!! We were a party of 8 that left and took our business elsewhere. We spent a lot money at the restaurant we went too on food and drinks. Unfortunately, we are staying at this lodge, we won't ever try to drink or eat here again, and will never come back to the lodge to stay. If they can't fix the staffing attitude issues at this lodge then they need to put it up for sale. Anybody could manage this place better and provide a better customer service!! read more

The staff is ridiculously helpful and friendly. The food was so great we ate here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Having a fire at night and making s'mores after swimming in the lake made for the absolute perfect day!!! The room was clean and the gift shop had a variety of necessities - aka we forgot to pack a few things. We attempted to skip rocks but found that we can't skip rocks lol Overall well done!!! read more

What's good to know: All these places are owned by different people. Their decor will be different and things inside the cabins will all be different. We stayed in 511 and it was a one bedroom cabin (bedroom had french doors that closed, and living room and kitchen in the other part). note this does not sleep 4 people LOL. 2 is max i'd say. Highlights: location is on lake superior. the cabin, 511, had so many large windows and basically it was like one of those really tiny cabins in the woods where you are surrounded. it was a lovely spot. decor is kitchy and clunky but seems to be expected up north unless you pay over 300 a night. side note for people who have trouble walking like my 72 year old mom -- there's a lot of steps and sometimes that was tough for her. service at the front desk was very good -- young man who worked at the front desk literally ran to get us stuff and was helping several other people at the same time. Lowlights: Skip the Grand Superior Lodge for dining. It's overpriced and not that great. Splurge at somewhere else instead. Also, do not order the steak, it was embarrassing piece of fatty meat and for 30 dollars that was ridiculous. Also the service wasn't that great. the bed and sheets were pretty bad -- the sheets were scratchy. bring your own. the price is high -- we stayed there and got the 3 day get 4 day free deal. the cabins are close together and people are walking to and fro and sitting in the yards - makes privacy a bit tough. lambs cabins are better spaced out. read more

We called in advance for a reservation. Got their and barely anyone was in the bar. People left that area and we were scolded for looking in there. Asked why we couldn't go in while we wait and was yelled at. To make matters worse. Could not even get a drink and wait outside. A guy staying there said he called down to order food and was told he would have to come down to restaurant to order his food. He was not happy either. We waited and the way we were treated we just finally left because of the horrible attitude of the staff in the front lobby and bar. For fear they would spit in our food () when we finally got waited on. The staff could not have been more rude. Sad because we have stayed their in the past and loved our room etc. read more

Shortly after writing our initial review, one of the cabin owners at Grand Superior Lodge reached out to us, acknowledged our situation, and offered us a free 3 night stay in their own personal cabin at the Resort. They also shared our initial review with senior management of Oddyssey Resorts, who apologized and gave us a full refund of our deposit. Needless to say my wife and I were overwhelmed by their sincere apologies and desire to make things right. I cannot say enough about how well we were treated and are looking forward to our upcoming stay at the Grand Superior Lodge. Both the owners and management reaffirmed that there are still really good and caring people in the world. read more

My husband and I needed a quick night away from the kids so we got a room at the lodge off of a hotel app. We've always driven past on the way to my family's cabin, but never stopped and we were curious about the resort. We arrived around dinner, and thanks to COVID- EVERYTHING was closed (pool, restaurant, etc.) But Liz was FANTASTIC, she was cheerful, upbeat, and so welcoming and helpful. She asked questions about what we needed and made adjustments for us. We were hoping to be able to soak in a hot tub, but since it was closed, she moved us to a room with our own jacuzzi! Who wants to work on a holiday?I know I wouldn't want to, and I'm SURE Liz has family she'd love to get to- but we felt so welcomed and appreciative of her help- her positivity is contagious! We're only a few hours into our "night away" and already it's been fabulous! Maybe next time we'll bring the kids! Or, maybe not!;) read more

The restaurant here is sooo good! The rooms are nothing special, but nice enough. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is what you're paying for and the "pet-friendly" accommodations are good enough, but could be a bit better (seems like an afterthought to rake in more customers really, since all we got was a pet bottle/dish and locally baked treats). The only dog waste area I've been able to find is out by the main entrance sign with quite a few mushrooms about. But hey, walking/sight-seeing is what we're here for right? read more

We just finished our stay at the Grand Superior Lodge and we unfortunately pretty underwhelmed. The staff was overall very unfriendly from our first encounter with the front desk to the restaurant staff. Our first night we decided to get carryout from the restaurant(which their hotel book encourages) but when my husband went to order the waitress seems like it was a big inconvenience for us to have a to go order. We finally got our order and the food was decent but was expensive for what it was. For our room we had a 1 bedroom suite. It was spacious and perfect for us with a slight view of the lake(So Pretty!). The room furnishing was very dated and uncomfortable and overall the room was extremely dark. I'm guessing it's not a problem in the summer and the room would be perfect if you weren't spending much time in it. As a side note the lodge is not staffed at night but the doors are left wide open. Maybe since it is a small town they don't need to worry about that, but it made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Also something to note is the indoor pool is not heated at all so unfortunately it was way too cold for our toddler. read more

I stayed her for a wedding this past weekend and was expecting a really spectacular stay for the price. Our room was $200 per night which is pretty darn spendy for a hotel room in the main lodge with a view of the parking lot. Our shower leaked all over the floor and made a huge mess. The food for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception was mediocre. I think my perception of my experience would have been better had the price not been quite so steep. It is a really pretty resort and they do have lots of things to entertain families (board games, pool, bonfire, outdoor games). read more

Was hoping this place would have been more like Larsmont. Less classy than I thought it would be given the online menu. Staff was super nice. They had NO reisling by the glass. Found that odd given they had Chardonnay, white Zin and moscato. Lastly we had walleye all you can eat fish fry. It was very tasty. Coleslaw needs work in terms of flavor but fries were like a beer-batter and they were great. I don't really care for fries or potatoes but these were very decent. read more

I took a drive up in northern Minnesota, and a woman in a touristy type shop advised that I come here for a walleye sandwich. We don't have walleye down south, so I jumped at the chance. I pulled in to the HUGE parking lot, and walked into the restaurant. I decided to sit inside, although they have a little patio/deck area. The waitress was super nice and chatty, asking me where I was from, etc. Very attentive, I don't think my water glass ever got less than half full. Oh, and the walleye sandwich? Was AMAZING. I can only assume the rest of the food follows suit (with sweet potato chips like that, how could it not?). read more

Grand Superior Lodge does not disappoint when it comes to the views, but unfortunately this time I was less than happy with our accommodations. We arrived to a room full of flies. Yes, yes - I know, we're up North so what can one expect. I fully expect flies and all, but there were flies everywhere and plenty of dead ones all over the lovely large window that looks over the lake. In the morning we had to cover ourselves with sheets because they were just buzzing all over. To top it all off...on the deck was the previous occupant's empty beer box. I think if I have to pay over $300 a night I could at least expect a cleaner room. read more

This review is based on a wedding we attended, we did not stay overnight at the hotel. The people were wonderful, service, food and delivery was subpar at best...especially with what I imagined the couple paid. Mediocre at best, seriously. The salmon was eh...and what it was served with, well, I don't really know exactly what it was. I think it was some sort of rice dish with some sort of cabbage salad with apples? I don't know. The collective decision was eh. The service was poor and they were understaffed. The banquet room was pretty full and it didn't seem they had enough help to service the whole room. At one point, a table had finished with their entree and another hadn't finished their salad....the timing was off. This needs to improve. The price of booze didn't help, either. A bottle of Mich. Golden Light was $5.50, steep. A glass of wine, you ask? $8. No way. I get that they can charge the prices they do since there is nothing else up the north shore...but if you're going to charge pretty steep prices then you better back it up. If they can improve these things and can assure you prompt service, it would be a fine place for a wedding, but be aware of the above. read more

Cool little lodge up on Superior, an hour or so north of Duluth. Has a rustic cabin feel with a nice fireplace and sitting area when you enter. Has a little shop and a library with games, movies and books there too. Also has a restaurant which seemed nice, but wasn't open while we were there. Downstairs there was a sauna, pool, and hot tub, all indoors and nice. Decks with chairs and firepits outside. The rooms are large and continue the theme. Beds are comfy, but the pillows are awful. Showers are great pressure wise, but that's to be expected out in the country. In the end it was nice,even though we only had one night. It's the kind of place that you need a few days to enjoy everything and relax. I wouldn't mind doing that again someday. read more

There is not enough I can say about this place. We've stayed here at least a half a dozen times. We were married here, celebrates milestone birthdays and taken in countless Lake Superior sunsets from this stunning property. The staff is tremendously friendly. Whether you're hosting an event, dining on site or just checking in. The on site restaurant has an exceptional spread with expertly prepared dishes including house smoked salmon (on some Sunday brunches) to die for chicken and wild rice soup and other treats. And the accommodations are outstanding. this place and can't recommend it enough. read more

We stayed in a kings suite in the lodge and we really enjoyed our room. Beautiful view of the lake, nice wood furnishings, fireplace, and jacuzzi tub. It has a great cozy feel to it. We liked the close access to the snowmobile trails and the ice bar was pretty awesome. I had a massage done, which went well-FYI the masseuse comes in, they do not have a spa here. The game room and fitness room are really a non-factor here; They are tiny and tucked away. The pool is also small. They should really revamp the whole bottom floor and make it more inviting and useful. We only had one issue with the room- hair in the jacuzzi jet. I know that sort If thing happens, but it was a little icky. We are hoping to come back with family next time for some more snowmobiling. read more

The Lodge looks decent on the website but there are MAJOR issues with houskeeping. Once we checked in a sign was posted in the room that stated there was limited housekeeping due to COVD19. Rooms had not been properly cleaned and no indication of a deep cleaning for COVD19. Thick dust on baseboards, stale odor and flithy chair cushions greeted us in room 212 upon check in. We had dinner at Superior Grill which was mediocre at best and when I ordered a vegan wild rice bowl which was clearly listed on the menu it had egg in it which was removed off the final bill. Nice views of the lake and centrally located it is a step above a rundown roadside motel for a main lodge room. A standard lakeview room for 4 nights cost us $745.08. Not worth staying at this lodge. read more

We stayed at the Grand Superior Lodge on July 26-27, 2013. The price for a lake view king-bed room was $313.10 per night (taxes included). This place is advertised as a venue to "refresh, relax, restore...", but what if you plan to spend a weekend here, be prepared instead for shabby room service, flat food, and loud wedding reception parties that are noisy and disturbing. It is dishonorable and reprehensible to advertise this venue as a quiet retreat, only to offer rooms where instead of splashing of waves from Lake Superior sounds of techno music pounds through the night. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

LOVED our stay in a 3 bedroom Lake Home North! Super beautiful decor & wow, wow, wow what a view!! The first night we were there the lake was like glass, and by the last night, it was roaring like an ocean! Not only are the accommodations awesome, the staff gets a top rating of 10!! Lyz, Alisa, & Urcia at the front desk were the friendliest front desk gals we've EVER experienced in all of our world travels and Matt with maintenance was the best too! Staff was friendly. Food was great. Views were good. I am giving a low rating below i left i pain the beds were so unbelievably uncomfortable. My husband likes firm beds but this was a rock and i felt like i was better off sleeping on the floor. The blinds didnt go all the way down, the toliet made overflow sounds. For the price point its not goof when the basic comforts and functionality of things in room were not working propery. I feel like this hotel runs simply on the amazing view alone.
