AFFORDABLE 5-STAR EXPERIENCE! When my wife and I first visited the TC wineries several years ago we were happy to drive ourselves because it was just the two of us. But we quickly noticed there was a premium tour experience available through Grand Traverse Tours. Their shiny and clean premium vehicles were always parked right at the entrance and their groups were being guided past the lines we stood in by their guide and driver. We knew then that when we returned we would want to be a part of their VIP experience, and that we would want to bring friends with us to enjoy it. INITIAL CONTACT: After reviewing their easy to navigate and well organized homepage we completed an online reservation request. We received a prompt and timely response to confirm availability and were directed to call at our convenience to make a specific reservation. I spoke with the owner Greg and he is terrific to work with. He was happy to answer all of my questions in an unhurried and no pressure manner. His guidance when creating our custom itinerary was much appreciated as he helped us to narrow down the very many choices there are to make sure we found the right tour for our group - which we most certainly did. COST: We were presently surprised to discover that the cost of their tours is very competitive to the more average experiences. In fact, with as few as 6 people we were actually ahead financially and of course enjoyed the VIP experience to boot. DRIVER / GUIDE: Todd arrived early, was professionally dressed, and most pleasant to be around. He knew the wineries as well as you would expect and was happy to share his insights with us. He called the day before to introduce himself as well as the morning of our event just to make sure all was well. He was always there when you needed him and never hard to find. His presence definitely elevated our experience. THE VEHICLE: Our group has all been in similar domestically produced vehicles by Ford and GM and such at one time or another so we were all expecting the ride to be like that of a school bus or airport shuttle - bumpy, noisy, and just adequately comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised by the ride quality and comfort of their Mercedes-Benz A-Style Limousine which rivaled that of the MB sedans - no kidding. It was like gliding on a magic carpet, members of our group made several comments in this regard, myself included. THE VIP EXPERIENCE: As we anticipated our group was dropped and picked up right at the entrance and Todd walked us in and guided us to the front of the lines at each stop. Checking in was effortless and quick. We never felt rushed and our pace was relaxing and fun. SUMMARY: We can hardly wait to return to Traverse City, and when we do we will of course be calling Grand Traverse Tours to help elevate our experience once again. read more

Todd was an excellent driver, taking us from Traverse City to Glen Arbor and back for a family dinner at Blu. The van was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. They even included an extra step to help my elderly parents easily enter and exit the vehicle. Greg made the booking process clear and easy with his prompt and friendly communication. I am appalled that we paid $615 to be aimlessly driven around for 4 hours. THE main reason that I decided to go with a tour company was for the benefit of the winery arrangements being made for us. Yet we did not have reservations at 2 out of 3 vineyards. We paid hundreds of dollars in additional purchases of wine flights vs tastings to drink while standing around due to the fact that the vineyards were not offering tastings AND had extremely limited first come first served basis, which our "tour experts" failed to inform us of ahead of time. Their recommended vineyards, particularly Tabone Vineyards was terrible. They recommend for their convenience. Their wine & their service was absolutely terrible. The fact that we were then not able to enjoy a glass of champagne or wine in our vehicle, only made everything worse. This could have been reasonable given the current circumstances. However, this should have been stated FAR EARLIER than in a notice one day prior to our booked tour with no time to book with another tour company. This is WHY you book a driver. The bus escape hatch leaked substantial amounts of water continuously throughout our trip, onto our party. Enough said. We did not even receive the " tote bags & wine glasses" listed as a part of our booked tour and no compensation was offered. Do not book with Grand Traverse Tours. read more

Love every part of this tour! The door to door pickup/drop-off made it extra convenient - because nobody wants to get behind the wheel after an afternoon drinking wine. So thank you for making this a safe & fun excursion for all. The tour company was so friendly and organized, from the moment I made the reservation over the phone, to the day-of phone call reminder, I felt like they were really taking great care of us! They reminded us to bring IDs, and some small snacks. The driver picked us up at our campsite. Yes, campsite @ the nearby Traverse City State Park. Then we went on to pick up a few other small groups at nearby hotels. Altogether we were 11 in the large van. (Capacity looks like 13 ppl) The pickup worked like clockwork, and soon we were on our way to the vineyards. Each of the 4 wineries/vineyards we visited at was top-notch. The first 3 were planned and the 4th was our choice as a group. The winery staff knows how to run these tastings for groups. Sometimes we were all seated at 1 table for tastings, other times we were free to go at our own pace through the venue and find a place to sit and enjoy. At first I felt like the 45 minutes at each stop was a little long. But as the day went on, I appreciated the breathing room. Room to roam around the grounds & take it all in. Buy a bottle of wine or two. We were never rushed. We did the Mission Peninsula tour and those wineries have such gorgeous grounds & views. Wow. I'd come here just for the scenery, but the wine is a nice big plus. The driver was an off-duty sherif, and he was helpful but his main role was being a chauffeur, so he didn't give any history or background stories about the vineyards, but would be happy to talk if we had questions. This is my second time taking a wine tour, and it still amuses me to see how people act when they are sober & shy in the first part of the day, and then all of the sudden become best friends by the end of the afternoon. I don't think it's obnoxious when people let loose just a little and make friends. We should all have more drinks with complete strangers. (: read more

We got lucky going on a Monday and had the van privately for our family of 6. Our driver (Travis?) took great care of us, providing water, taking pictures, sharing a bit of history and local knowledge. Apparently my boyfriend got us on the last ride of the year a few weeks ago and it was awesome! Best. Date. Ever. I just moved back from downstate and it was beyond words to see Traverse from up high! The colors were at their peak and Jeff the pilot made sure we hung out over East Bay and everyone had a great time. The basket was filled with couples of varying ages and everyone was really cool (you don't have a lot of personal space in those things so being with chill people was a huge plus). The pilot and his crew were awesome, I didn't have any idea prior as to how they got the balloons up in the air (its kinda an ordeal) but everyone was really cool. The crew was fun and made sure everyone was having a good time. When we landed (so smooth btw) we were presented w/ certificates and a local champagne toast which was a really nice touch! Yesterday was our second experience doing the Grand Traverse Tour. Once again, it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. Both of our drivers each time-Jerry & Sue- were fun, awesome, knowledgeable, & welcoming. We were picked up at our hotel & were able to visit six beautiful wineries & sample dozens of wine. Initially started looking for a guided tour this past summer and at first called a different company. The owner of that company was not offering service for the dates I had in mind, but offered GTT as her first recommendation. I am so glad I took her advice! The overall process was great and the tour was worth every penny! Rick, our driver/guide, had so much to share about the area with detailed stories behind each vineyard that were invaluable to the time my wife and I shared! It was not uncommon for him to offer more advice and history than the people working the tastings! At multiple wineries, the staff knew Rick personally which just spoke to his connection to the area. He was quick to attend to my wife and I throughout the afternoon and offered additional local stops/history insights along the way! Went on a girls weekend to Traverse City with a close friend. We didn't have many ideas about which company to choose for a wine tour. I live in Denver so basically booked the first place I called once I found out the price was reasonable and the date wanted was available. It definitely helped that the person that answered the phone was super friendly and acted like they really wanted my business. I could tell they were really busy at the time I called, but that didn't deter them from fully answering my questions and being genuine. I don't really think I can express how much fun we had! Our driver was very friendly and knowledgeable and the wineries they took us too on the Old Mission peninsula treated us very well. We hired Grand Traverse to take myself an 12 of my friends for my bachelorette weekend and it FAR exceeded my expectations. The wine country up here is beautiful and we went to some incredible wineries, but Rebecca - our driver - was really the reason the day was so special. We got in the van, albeit a little hungover and tired from the night before, and she picked our energy right back up with her enthusiastic smile and incredible upbeat energy. I purchased a groupon for a wine tour two years ago when I went with my boyfriend and then again just recently when I went on a friends' trip. Honestly, the best thing I've ever done! Our driver, Ben, was great... nice, personable, and knew a lot about TC. We went to 4 wineries and one distillery. I like that he didn't rush us through. We were able to enjoy a tasting and often times a glass of wine as well at each stop. While booking the tour we were told to bring some food. It's a long day of drinking wine so having something to munch on in between stops was great. They provide bottled water and boxes to carry your wine. Don't forget to also bring cash for tastings! We had an awesome time touring the 4 amazing wineries. The only reason this tour fell short of a 5 star rating is due to our tour guide who added very little to our experience. We very much appreciated the door to door service, but would have loved more interaction and engagement between stops.. perhaps some music or friendly conversation to help everyone get acquainted as we were mostly complete strangers?! I was a bit skeptical about using a company for a service that's advertised on Groupon, because there's usually a reason why, and it's usually not a good one. But my girl friends and I were truly pleasantly surprised. Jeff was very accommodating to our needs. I think he understood that with 8 girls going on a wine tour in Traverse City, it probably means a (possibly rowdy) bachelorette party and was smart to not put an extra couple in with us. The stretch Mercedes party bus we rode around town in was in mint condition. Jeff also said it wouldn't be too big of a deal if we go over our block of time by a little bit, which is pretty cool of him. Our driver was so nice and it was a nice touch that he got in touch with the wineries we were going to in advance to let them know a group of us were coming together. One of the wineries even had a room set aside for us. He even drove us around town and gave us a quick tour of the city, that was really nice of him as well. My one and only complaint is that I was expecting the bus to have a more "standard" limo setup, with the long couch around the bus instead of having seats like a normal van. Although none of us got sloppy, the van seats setup made the getting in and out at each of the wineries kind of inconvenient, but, fortunately, that's not enough for me to ding them for it. read more

We took a wine tour with Grand Traverse Tours on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The company as excellent from the booking to everything that day. When I called to book the gentleman I talked to was very friendly and informative. He gave me an approximate time when they would pick us up that day, explained what was included and how everything would be handled that day. On the day of the tour our driver, Greg, called about 2 hrs beforehand to tell us when and where he would be picking us up. Greg was excellent!!! He was right on time. He had the day all planned out. He had done his homework and knew which places would be busy and when. He made recommendations as far as which places where better for ordering a glass and enjoying some time at the wineries to sit and sip while enjoying the view and which were better for the standard tasting. He was really great with offering to take our picture at each location and knew the best spots for great photo opportunities. This is our second time using Grand Traverse Tours. We have been on a bachelorette party tour and now my fiance and I went while up north this week. Rick was fantastic! He got us to 7 wineries on Old Mission Peninsula and we had the best time with our new 8 friends on the join in tour.
