Good: - Friendly owner. Helped me find what I was looking for (Wine and Prosecco) and asked if I wanted chilled ones. Also, cleared my confusion about the store hours (detailed in the next point). - Opens at 8AM according to Yelp, and 9AM according to Google. I asked the owner about it and he said that - usually he opens the store at 8 AM to load stuff and he allows customers to walk in and shop. So, my understanding is that the store would definitely be open at 9AM but you can call after 8AM to check if it is open. Could be better: - I felt that the collection could be better. I couldn't find 4 packs of wine. - Parking space is limited. 3-4 street parking spots. read more

So I was in Southern California having brunch at one of those chi chi bottomless mimosa places. As it turned out, the meal was pretty mediocre, but the bubbly was excellent. Once I sobered up a bit, I copied down the name and googled to see where I could find it in CT. I was expecting perhaps one of those big warehouse stores, but no, the only place in the state which carried it was Grand Vin a store which I must have passed dozens of times on my way through Fair Haven. I headed over and have have been a customer ever since.The guy who is always there when I drop by is very knowledgeable and will direct you to something you'll like, whether it's a high end, or more my style - cheap and tasty. For a store with a relatively small footprint, the selection of wines and liquors is impressive. I've never gone looking for something without finding it, at a fair price, too. read more

I give this place five stars because, not only is it a great stand alone, fine wine darling of a shop with great selection of beer and liquor (mostly the good stuff: scotch, rum, gin, bourbon, etc.)....but in addition, this place compliments the other wine shops in town. This review is looooong over due. I have lived off and on in Fairhaven and it's always on my radar. I lived in Fairhaven when they first opened and shopped there. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful in helping me find things, they are also good at recommending whatever you are in the mood for (describe what you like) and I have not been unhappy with anything that they have suggested so far. From dinner party, back yard BBQ, to just casually hanging out with a friend, they have whatever the mood or occasion calls for. The layout of the store is done well, I like to look at the labels and bottles, as a design junkie, I like to look at wine and beer bottles, (the fonts and layouts). I wanted to try a new brut champagne, I was introduced to Duval-Leroy brut champagne (ranked one of the top 15 champagne houses in the world). The wines...from rioja, sharaz, blends....(I keep a notebook of the ones that I have tried). They have a great selection of wines. If you like lager, try the Session Black lager, by Full Sail Brewing Company out of Oregon. You will not be disappointed. In addition to the wine selection, they also have a good selection of ales, stouts, and lagers. So for, service, knowledge, selection and just visually appealing store layout, this store is top notch! read more

Many young professionals looking to purchase a home in New Haven have turned to the area of East Grand Ave. With them has come Grand Vin, a "wine shop" that is truly deserving of the term. It's far too easy to pen this store as, "Wine Thief Fair Haven", but the misnomer is somewhat fitting. This is a wine shop with a knowledgeable staff, little attitude, and a tremendous selection. You can find wines here that most of us can't afford (they have an internet sales department) all the way down to $8 life-changers. I'm guessing the owner has a special penchant for Spanish wines, because this shop has probably the best selection of them in the county -- and we're talking quality over quantity. This store is one of those gems that makes New Haven what it is. It's worth the trip, even if it's not "your" neighborhood. read more

Don't let the smallness of this shop fool you. It is packed with a nice selection of wines. The staff is helpful and they know their stuff. You will find wines here that other places have never even heard of.The owner takes his business seriously and seems to know what his customers want. I love this shop. The vibe inside is calm and cool. Ben the owner and his son are very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. I used to drive to Liquorland in Hamden to save some money, but I don't mind paying a little bit more per bottle to support this neighborhood family-owned business. Only issue I have is that during the pandemic I wish the owner Ben would wear a face mask. My mask protects him, his lack of a mask leaves me feeling unprotected and unappreciated. read more

I learned of the store from a event wine tasting that we attended and we ended up purchasing a couple cases of wine. I chose to pick them up instead of having them delivered as this was my first time there I had know idea what to expect however I enjoyed it. I'm tired of the big chain stores where everyone knows just enough to try to sell you something, the owner was extremely knowledgeable about every product he had. His inventory includes many fine wines including Dave Phinney. I will be going back and will gladly recommend it to our friends read more

I was looking for a hard to get wine and I couldn't have found a better place to stumble upon online!!! I emailed the store and had constant updates from Chris! He was amazing!! Small, quaint wine/liquor store on Grand Ave that seems to cater to local clientele. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. A comfortable, unpretentious environment to ask questions and discuss different wines/beers. Pricing is a little more than some of the bigger stores in the area, but for the warm experience and proximity I'd be willing to shell out an extra buck or two to shop here. Good selection of local beers (eg, New England Brewing Co), with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic beer man. Overall, would recommend. read more

This is one of, if not the best liquor stores in New Haven. Not only was the selection of beer, wine and spirits all really extensive, but the prices were fair and the staff were very friendly! The cashier even helped my friend carry her case of beer out to her car! read more

Hey, guys, this shop is really not that small. It just isn't supermarket size. It's spacious. It's my favorite place to buy wine in New Haven and that is saying a lot because there are three other places (in the East Rock neighborhood and downtown) that I like a lot too and that also have great owners/workers and interesting selections of wine and liquor. read more
