When I buried my father, the cemetery and grounds were called Holly Hills. When I buried my mother, the funeral home and grounds were called Highland Memorial South. The experiences in of these two previous services were quite satisfactory, in hindsight, but my memories of them are vague and unremarkable. I say this, not to be trite or critical, but rather to highlight that this new reinvention as Berry Highland South under the direction of Dignity Memorial was 1000% greater The care and services we received from Berry Highland South, under funeral director TC Linton exceeded my friends, church, and families expectations, and in my opinion, raise the bar in standard of excellence one can expect from a funeral home and cemetery. Making the arrangements and preparations were comfortable and stressless. T.C. Linton and his staff were authentic, measured,and uniquely capable to communicate with a variety of personalities. I mention this facet of their characters and demeanors as a compliment. I read a previous review on here from someone else's funeral that specifically contradicts my groups personal-experience and I call bullshit. Dignity Memorial was actually awe inspiring. There were no kinks, no media failures, no surprises. T.C. demonstrated a remarkable ability to navigate and advise, support and facilitate the funeral WE wanted and did so to perfection. He didn't gouge our bill or hard sell us on anything we didn't need. He was supportive and consoling like a trusted friend, well rounded to receive and heighten the milieu when some of us faltered and fostered a calmness that was measured and appropriate. He recommended a menu for their lounge for receiving friends that is STILL trending on our groups media feed as #bestfuneralever. I can't imagine what their top shelf food package would look like, we got the base offering and my family thought we we're in heaven. Nice. It was epic. TC Linton also did an amazing job on my brothers makeup. His artistry was beautiful and impeccable, my brother looked fantastic and was greatly received. Dignity Memorial was trustworthy and discreet, accommodating and flexible. They were perfect. I never expected to be invigorated and renewed in my soul after the death of my only brother. Our families hearts are enriched and mended. Great Job.

I…read morewould like to start by saying that it was not a welcoming place to be and felt as though we were an inconvenience. My Grandmother's "package" included a video of family photographs put to music. During the private family visitation the video wasn't put up, they apparently had technical difficulties with the DVD player. They obviously had not checked the video or equipment prior to our arrival. The director kept running back and forth with the remote which was a distraction. They never got the main screen above the casket working and rather than turning it off, kept the logo prompt running through the entire service (very distracting and disrespectful). The put a smaller TV to the side of the casket without the volume (till we asked) where people had to crowd around to see. When asking about the situation, the lady there treated me rudely and had also mentioned a racial slur in front of my husband. Additionally, the online condolences were not accessible for people to express their comments. She had a grandson in Germany who was unable to attend that would have used this service if available. VERY disappointing at such a sad time for the family. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. By the way, the charge to family members for a copy of the dvd is $50!!!!! WOW...

It's really hard to find any kind of place these days these days that has decent service to the public but the office staff (I think they were called counselors?) went above and beyond for us. The grounds are beautiful and you can tell that the outside workers take pride in what they do. The office staff were helpful, and not pushy at all. They listened to us and were mostly concerned with helping us get what we wanted and not on what someone else might think we should have. The prices for the plots were a lot better than the other two places we talked to and we had a lot of nice areas to choose from. Only thing I don't like is that they lock the gate when it gets dark at night so I can't come visit after work. Most people wouldn't care but I work an odd schedule. Wish they would leave it open all the time. Thank you to the staff for guiding our family through what was a very hard time.

I've been lied to by two different employees who both told me that they have ordered the death date marker for my mom's grave marker. She was buried mid July and today I'm told it was never ordered. I spoke with them last week and was told they had it and would have it added to her marker! If you must use this place for burial of your loved one, be prepared for lies and disappointment from the staff.

Knoxville's National Cemetery was established during the Civil War and in the last 150 years now has over 9000 interments. Unlike others I have been to that are arranged in straight lines, Knoxville is arranged in a circular pattern surrounding a flagpole at the center. Though the main piece is a 50-foot tall marble Union soldier. It looks a bit like a fortress, complete with stained glass windows. The cemetery includes two Medal of Honor recipients and at least two Generals. I also spotted a number of "unknown Union soldier" markers. This is a fascinating place with a lot of history. Knoxville National Cemetery, 919 Tyson Street,…read moreis a beautifully designed cemetery that dates back to 1863. Listed on the National Historic Register, the cemetery has a circular design and is a patch of green in an urban, concrete, jungle. The cemetery has two Medal of Honor recipients, one from the Civil War and the second from World War II. In the northeast corner of the cemetery is the Union Monument. First erected in 1901, the bronze eagle on top of that monument was struck by lightning in August of 1904, shattering it and forcing the replacement of the roughly 50 ft high structure. Noted architects, Baumann Brothers designed the new structure in keeping with the previous design but with a Union soldier on top this time. It was finished on October 15, 1906. Also, of note to Tennessee VOLS fans is the gravesite of Brigadier General Robert Neyland and his wife Ada. This is a wonderful piece of Knoxville history and a great place to teach your kids about honor, service, and sacrifice. Memorial Day weekend is a wonderful day to visit when flags mark each grave.
