I had a unique issue that required a structural engineer evaluation, which was included in the bid. Lalo and Daner arrived as scheduled to do the crawl space and had to alter the original plan a bit. They completed the project in two days (original estimate was three) and everything was left clean. They were friendly, polite and seemed to genuinely care about making sure I was satisfied. No idea what the other part of that amount was for, they said it was 'Engineering costs' but won't/can't show us any engineering work/plans. They've decided to keep our $6,000 deposit AND charge for the $1100.00 because we told them we aren't happy with their lack of progress, refusal to give us any estimates for costs, and extremely poor designs, (so bad that we asked them to use another design from a different contractor) constant miscommunication, and inability/refusal to answer our questions. It's been two months, and when we asked for a cost breakdown so we can decide how to phase our project, we get a lecture from the so-called designer about " We don't know how many nails we will be using exactly, or if one of our subcontractors messes up. Just tell us what you don't want to do, and we'll just take it out." We asked if she was able to 'take that out' wouldn't that mean she knows the costs, and could provide us an estimate? The answer was no. We've never heard of a contractor refusing to give an estimate to a client. This was when I told Alyssa that we will not be able to continue working with them. They refused to give us our deposit back, so today, to try and create a 'win-win,' I asked Alyssa if they would do our patio demolition, and we could call that $6,000 deposit of ours even. (another estimate for this demolition came in at $4,700.00) We would have been willing to eat the difference. I got a long, bogus, 'beat around the bush' non-explanation, which is par for her communication style, and the answer was no, they don't do demolition(!!) and only worked with clients for at least a $50,000 project. News to us!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SCAM COMPANY!!

Rather than acting with integrity, the business elected to tell a lie, as the project was likely not lucrative enough for them. We had an outstanding experience with A2Z Builders and our project manager, Noam Bar-On…read more They transformed the unfinished portion of our basement -- which previously had bare concrete floors, an awkward HVAC unit hanging in the middle of the ceiling (that I constantly bumped my head on), and a poorly defined utility area -- into a thoughtfully designed, highly functional space. What was once an uncomfortable, underutilized area is now a beautiful basement with a dedicated office, a workout space, and a much better-sized, well-organized utility room. In addition, they replaced all of our carpet with hardwood floors throughout the main level, and the results are amazing. The craftsmanship and finish quality exceeded our expectations -- the house feels completely elevated and refreshed. Noam was exceptional throughout the entire process. He worked closely with me on the overall design, offered smart and practical solutions, and truly understood what we were trying to accomplish. He came by daily to make sure every detail was executed correctly and was always attentive, responsive, and proactive. Then we decided to get a digital rendering of the porch which came out great, but came with a price of over $1k in addition to the initial Estimate which was over 40k. Some time went by and we heard very minimal about the project between March and August. I decided to do a review on yelp to motivate the company to do something with our project. I received a phone call from the PM about how this affects their business. I agreed that I would remove that review and add a review at the end. Our understanding was that there would be quality control and communication weekly along the way however; this was not the case. There were days where the painter and foundation person came when they said they would and other times they didn't. A couple of times I would go out and look and tell the construction worker that the quality was not acceptable. This occurred on more than one occasion. I called the PM to tell him that this was the problem. It got fixed and we ended up with a beautiful porch in Mid November with a total of $45k spent. If you have the time and money to spend to guide this project the exact way that you want then yes, otherwise; I would recommend a different company.
