I'm not in the country-club tax bracket just yet, but I was at the Granite Club for a financial-planning shindig, and got to see how the other one-half of one-percent lives (and gets out of coughing up for probate). There was another, bigger function going on at the same time, so getting into the underground parking took forever--in fact, there had even been a long line to turn off Bayview since it was still rush hour. But they had guys with walkie-talkies directing cars into spots, so things weren't as disorderly as they might otherwise have been. The Granite Club seems to tout itself as being family-friendly, but within limits: for instance, there're "Caution: Children Playing" signs along the driveway, but by the buffet table there are warnings that children are allowed to grab food alone for "hygienic" reasons. I'm surprised they didn't have staff to keep youngsters from pawing the canapés. As an extra bonus, I rode the elevator with Robert Herjavec (of CBC's Dragons' Den fame). I successfully resisted the urge to ask for a business loan.

The "ballroom". The flowers were breathtaking, the lighting was perfect, and the sounds flowed nicely.

Kids love the word "aura" these days, and when my dad asked me what it means I told him "think Soho…read moreHouse 2010-2014." That confused him more but I like messing with my dad. Forreal though, the run Soho House had can only be rivaled by 2011-2015 Whole Foods. You really had to be there... but like any other prime, Father Time always catches up. I was set to do a full rise and fall piece on the Soho House right here on Yelp but in my research, I stumbled upon an article by Lydia Moynihan in the NY Post and she nailed it. I really didn't have much to add so go over and read that if you have a sec. Shoutout to Lydia. Instead, I'll just recap our experience here like any other boring Yelp Review. We came to this Toronto location before the Taylor Swift concert, and I was pleasantly surprised. It felt like prime Soho House. A beautiful, discrete brick building with an old school interior. Whoever designed this one needs a raise. I'm so tired of the cookie cutter half-assed modern architecture. The ones in LA and NY now feel like it is just a bunch of dorks trying to be seen by God knows who. There is no soul in those locations. We grabbed a drink in the lobby and went upstairs for our 5pm dinner. I domed a couple of negronis and we split a margherita pizza and a bottle of pinot noir before our mains arrived. I got the rigatoni, per the waitresses recommendation because she had a thick Italian accent. Big truss. She wasn't lying either, that rigatoni went crazy. I took like 30 pictures before a staff member came over and said no pictures, as I didn't know that was still a rule here... please don't beat me up. We closed dinner with a couple espresso martinis before setting off on foot to go see Big Tay put on a show. She really did her thing. Thank you Soho House Toronto, for giving me a taste of what the Soho House used to be in the states. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

They have a eclectic and faux rustic vibe going on with seating and sight lines set up so that you can watch who is in the room. Truly designed for today's busy d-bag to allow them to half listen to their guest over cocktails while they scan the room to see if someone more important has walked in. The food is meh and it feels like this place simply exists for indie film and local television producers to feel like they are a part of some scene. ..And down a star it goes! I'm sure I've been to this club more than most of the reviewers, so I…read moredefinitely need to update this. I used to LOVE this club, I'd be there every friday night! Every. Single. Friday. Night. Wait, how much money did I spend again? Yeah, I don't want to think about it. Let me put it out there- friday night is asian night. Asians come here to escape the other clubs and dance among their own. If you're any other race, you'll probably not be welcomed here with open arms and get a lot of looks. I'm not trying to be offensive, but from what I've heard, that's the case. The bouncers are still the nicest bouncers I've ever encountered in toronto. They are friendly and are one of the only ones that don't power trip like crazy on their bouncer status. They smile, greet you, help you up or down the stairs (if you need) and generally create good vibes already before entering the club. The club itself is BEAUTIFUL, and when I go in, I don't smell ratchet- which is rare in the entertainment district. There are chandeliers, beautiful decor and pretty lights. The bartenders are pretty nice, but sometimes you ask for water and they ask for $2 in return. Those times, I just go to another bar (there are 3) and get it for free. The water bottles are free most of the time and they even give you water on the way out, so I think they need to be consistent and not charge for it randomly. Music is still inconsistent although it's gotten a lot better over the years. It's mostly top 40, hip hop and EDM and it keeps the crowd dancing (or that weird jump move they call dancing). This club also has life sized jenga, connect 4 and now even a swing that you can swing on. What?! So cool. But it can get ratchet really fast. The crowd here has gone downhill severely- maybe it's because disgusting gravity down the street has closed? There are SO many fresh out the womb kids here now and they have 0 club etiquette, pretending they're drunk off one drink, pushing people down, falling everywhere and thinking it's cute. One big thing that always stops me from coming here now is the fact that there are always little ones here, as opposed to the mid-20s crowd back then. I'm sure there are plenty of underage kids here, and I'm not about it. PRO TIP: do not come during summer or when university kids come home for reading week. DEATH.

If you're looking for a classy place and can somehow get through the membership hurdles, I highly recommend it. Some caveats: -We were a bit confused about the entrance but were eventually let in through the front door facing the street. Unclear if it was locked or just really heavy. -The bathroom is upstairs (and is beautiful) but there's an elevator if you're feeling lazy. -You are not allowed to tag the York Club in your social media pictures because this place is shrouded in mystery. Oops. This announcement may have come too late for me. Cocktail Hour -was supposed to be in the garden but was in several rooms inside due to rain, which was very lovely. Great architecture, art, and high ceilings, and two rooms with bars, with room for the quartet/jazz band? in the middle. -Food selections were incredible! Seared tuna, gnocchi, lobster tempura, and several other bites. -Pro tip 1: Stand by the elevator hallway for first access to food, I'm not sure how well it filtered to the other rooms considering what vultures my friends and I were. -Pro tip 2: It got very humid in the main room but the room to the left was well air conditioned. Dinner -was phenomenal. From the salad with tiger shrimp to the mushroom soup and lamb entrée, everything was delicious. -They kept forgetting to bring out my friend's gluten-free meal, but whenever she reminded them, they quickly brought out a (still delicious) gluten-free version. - The dining room was large, with round tables in the main room and I believe rectangular tables in the side room. -Acoustics were great for speeches and there was even a piano for a special performance by one of the guests! Dancing -Enough space for a band and a DJ and a bunch of guests to go nuts. -It was a bit hard to all crowd around to see the first dance. -Cake and favors were in another room adjacent to the dancing. -They brought out sliders and fries and grilled cheese at the end of the night!!! And they were delicious. Highly recommend this beautiful venue for your wedding/special event/baller party!

Signage, facilities, drinks, and, of course, food which will the reasoning for the dismal rating. Everything about the wedding was lovely, the space, the drinks, but the food, man, was the food bad. The worst out of the way first? Sure. There was this shrimp soup. Correction, there was some type of.. meat (questionable) that once used to be shrimp but was either severely overcooked to the point that it crumbled in your mouth and had some type of texture that resembled goat cheese. It didn't taste rotten, but it definitely did not taste like shrimp. I was not alone in my disdain for this shrimp soup dish. I'm not sure anyone I talked to enjoyed it. Mains were wholly uninspired and missed the mark. My wife had the fish (arctic char) that was dry and bland. It was supposed to come with a white beurre blanc sauce but that never came. I tried the filet mignon which, although not overcooked, was tasteless. Chef, please season your food. Everyone was racing for the salt and pepper. The plating was also lacking. I can remember everything that was on the dish, 2 asparagus, 1 gem potato sliced in half, 3 broccoli crowns, and a half sliced tomato and the main. Surprisingly these veggies were on both the fish and beef dishes. There was a cool swan made of butter though.

It's set up like…read morea lounge with a room for wine storage where members can store bottles of wine (and whatever else) in their humidity and temperature controlled lockers. Having moved back to Toronto recently, I thought it would be great to join to meet other young professionals, and we did. This is the perfect place to meet new people over a bottle of wine, or bring old friend by to help you enjoy one, or two or three. The price for a locker is reasonable given i can store a 10$ bottle of wine that i would normally pay 50$+ for at a restaurant, so two bottles of wine per month i and i consider that i saved money (contrary to some of the other comments below), plus got all the other bonus' i mentioned. I found other members to be very nice and approachable. Its located in a quiet nook of DT Toronto (east end) which makes it hassle-free: no gridlock, plenty of cheap parking, no line ups no blaring music you cant stand (as opposed to the King West scene). The VC quickly became our "go-to" place and we enjoy the classy atmosphere. We have also booked the private dining room to host an event (birthday). The food provided by Andrew the chef was not only amazingly delicious, but well priced, you cant get a meal like that for the value any where else in T.O... Whether you may be looking for wine storage, a place to meet people, a place to hang out after work/weekends, or a place to host corporate events, I think that this place caters to all and the proprietors to a great job in running the place.

This place has gone downhill very quickly once it became popular…read more When it started, it was cool and trendy because it was a neat concept, there were not too many members (it was secret), not too many corporate parties, pricing was reasonable and the owners were humble. Its exactly opposite now. For the smallest locker it costs ~$95/month to rent, (they charge you a 3% credit card fee) and there is a one time "initiation fee" of ~$75 as well. The location being on the east end near financial district is not ideal either. The number of corporate events have increased dramatically. Most weeknights esp. Wed, Thurs and Fri you would have some bank or financial institution having a client session in the lounge (note the lounge is not too big) and you would be expected to keep your voices down (or keep your little session with your friends to a minimum) because "there is an event going on". The whole premise of paying a premium for a private member's only club space is lost in my opinion. Secondly, when it started the owners (Andrew and Costa), were a lot more humble and nice which has again dramatically changed after the "success" of this place. They are planning to open a couple other locations as they see this as more of a money making business machine now (nothing wrong with that) vs. what they sold me on - a small family owned type wine club where you would feel personally connected and welcomed. Completely commercial outfit now. Its a great place if you want to hobnob with suits and old men.

NB: my review is to be taken with a grain of salt…read more As per usual I was here as "the help" with a string-quartet softly stringing our dulcet tones away in the corner. The event-planner told us just as we had setup that we were to be seen and not heard. "Play something baroque that nobody will recognize." On that hands-offish request we did just that. On our breaks we got to sample the "economy" package booking cocktails and appys that came out of the kitchen. To be frank, they were BRUTAL. I would be upset if my supermarket re-heated, frozen package treats came out so poorly. I would have returned them for a refund! The bar selection was also the cheapest of the cheap disgusting booze that I can't afford to drink. (Yes... cheap booze = BLERGH) Now you might think a starving artist like myself needs to economize and take what he can get? Sadly no. I much prefer to save up and buy something I appreciate and go without during the saving-up phase. It's so much tastier and actually cheaper in the long run because every sip is cherished! I know NOTHING else of the facility, or the other food choices. But the receptionist was "off"... When we walked in we asked where the retirement party was. (There was only ONE event room booked at our time) And she had trouble understanding why we were there and where we should go. It took her about 7 minutes to figure out that we had to, "go up the 3 stairs and turn right". Will I be back? Not on my own dime! I don't need to join a snooty, pretentious place like this so I can keep up with the Joness'...
