We took our cat Hidey to Granite Mountain Veterinary Hospital to repair injury caused by another veterinary clinic. The other place carelessly handled Hidey and allowed her to launch out of the carrier into a glass door causing a broken tooth. After going to the pet emergency room that evening for immediate care we took her to Granite Mountain. They were fantastic and were very accommodating. Our cat needed emergency dental care which Dr. Bason was able to squeeze her into her busy schedule. Since Hidey was originally seen for a urinary tract infection, Dr. Bason also was able to treat that issue. The technicians went out of their way to help and make sure treatment was successful. Since that traumatic time, we have since taken our other 4 cats for treatment. The entire staff provides excellent and thoughtful service. Dr Basin is an amazing veterinary doctor. She is so kind, professional, compassionate and knowledgeable. She discovered what was happening with our dog when other vets could not. We had to eventually say goodbye to our baby and Dr. Basin and her staff were so remarkable through the process. Today we received a card with our babies footprints in it. Every staff member hand wrote beautiful words to us. My husband and I cried. It was so touching. They are reasonably priced and just so amazing in every way. This is for Dr. Katherine Siens and the vet tech who gave an excellent initial visit to our two adopted kittens. I haven't had pets before as an adult and have been a little unsure -- and therefore researching like crazy -- which doesn't always go over with medical professionals. She was very patient and took time to answer questions. I was impressed with how gentle and kind and efficient everyone was while examining, chipping and trimming nails. Also, Dr. Siens took extra time to review ingredients in our homemade diet plan, managing to be supportive and a little skeptical all at the same time. She obviously really cares about the animals in the practice, and the staff seemed to share her values. Please note that Dr. Siens and her partner at the clinic took over in 2020, so some less than stellar reviews below refer to old management. Dr Don is absolutely the most caring veterinarian we have ever taken any of our dogs to anywhere...and we have lived all over the country. He is extremely kind and thorough and professional. I recently had an emergency with my little Sprout and left a message on the answering machine on Sunday morning.... he called me back within the hour. This is a phenomenal vet! Dr Siens spends so much quality time with me every time I bring 1of my 2 dogs into the office. My one dog is a senior dog who's reactive to other dogs so they let us come in on the side door so she is less stressed. Dr Siens is so patient with both my dogs especially the aging one who's experiencing some dementia issues (cognitive behavioral disorder). She shows a deep concern for my dogs which puts me at ease. When she leaves a message or an email it's in great detail which is helpful for me. Every Vet Tech I've worked with shows sincere attention and care for my dogs. I had a bill of more than $600.00 which I reduced to $400 by opting for only one of the medicines and not three. Dr Szekely was our vet for Lola & Rita Mae. Unfortunately he sold the business about 2 years ago. He was a kind caring man and loved our dogs. He always had chicken treats in his pocket for our dogs. He truly loved his animal patients and we loved him... His staff was also super supportive and loving. When our Lola had cancer and had to leave us for her trip over the rainbow bridge, all the staff and the Dr signed a card gave us 3 yellow roses in a vase, a lock of her hair and a plastered foot print of her paw. We miss him terribly... The new Vet will never fill his shoes in our eyes. Question high priced drugs. Get it from a pharmacy rather than at the vet... You'll save a ton of money!!! read more

Apparently, this office still has issues, with it's staff. They are clicks, and if you are not part of the click, watch out. They are lazy, all except one, and she is treated like crap because she doesn't want to belong to their click. They said she had a bad attitude. She had personal issues going on with family. Have a heart, not everyone can be cheerful all the time. And, when she asked for help, she got accused of pawning her work on someone else. That person did one thing for her. She is always going above and beyond at her job and get's treated like dog doo. The Dr. at this office really needs to pay attention to his staff and what they are doing. We have been clients at Granite Mountain Veterinary Hospital since July 2018. I believe Dr. Szekely to be a competent and caring veterinary doctor and his staff is very nice. The only issue I have had is with their high prices. The doctor and I have had a couple of heated discussions regarding this issue. Dr. Szekely admitted that part of the reason for the higher charges was because I was using my American Express to pay the bills. That was upsetting! A merchant chooses to take credit cards! If they do, the credit card company's charges are at the merchant's expense. They should not be charging a client more for using credit cards that they accept. This has been where we have always taken are cats after a recommendation from a friend. We were forced to use a local animal hospital over the weekend because this office was closed. The treatment and care were not even a fraction as good. Even after spending a fortune at the other place, I am coming back to this vet for treatment. They are caring, and excellent with following up, and give way better treatment. If you live in the Prescott area, this is the vet I would recommend. The place is clean and nice - staff is friendly and attentive. Veterinarian is a bit of a kooky character, but overall very kind and thorough. Only downside is it's pretty spendy! (There are other places that cost less - like Prescott Animal Hospital.) In general though I've always had good service here - especially today when I spent a bunch of money and then was pulling out of the driveway when the receptionist came running out because I had forgotten the health certificate! (On my way to the airport, so I NEEDED THAT!.) Lifesaver! Based on the service I've received, I'll probably keep coming back here - in my opinion excellent thorough service is worth the price. We recently took our dogs to this veterinary clinic. They needed follow up vaccines and check ups. Our Chihuahua needed to be spayed. It was a very good experience. The doctor is very kind and gentle. He spent a huge amount of time with us, way more than expected. The office sometimes seems a little less professional than other places, however that is what makes the experience more personable. We didn't feel like they were trying to sell us anything or were trying to make us feel guilty for not doing some part of the treatment for our dogs. I would recommend them to anyone. As an update, last year our little chihuahua ate some carpet string and got impacted in her intestine. She got very very sick and almost lost her. Dr. Szekly saved her life. It was an expensive ordeal, but the clinic worked with us, discounted the bill and accommodated us so we could pay the bill over time. Cha-Cha has got to be the sweetest little dog on the planet so we are very grateful that she was saved. read more

We LOVE everything about this place. They are amazing with our dogs and have never disappointed. This is the only vet we take our dogs for vet care and boarding. Our 3 shihtzus also enjoy it there which is pretty hilarious to watch when we see how excited they are when we drop them off for boarding. Recently the doctor went above and beyond when we were stuck in traffic driving back from Phoenix. There was no way we would arrive on time before they closed to pick them up. After talking to the vet tech she gave us the doctors personal cell number and they waited for us to arrive after closing time. Also their prices are super reasonable. Friendly staff. Because of the Doctors at this fine institution, Snuggles and I were able to resume our lives together. They correctly diagnosed my cat as being a porcupine. I have cataracts and can't see particularly well. Turns out Snuggles got my nephews letterman jacket snagged on its quills. This was a huge relief, as Snuggles wasn't scratching me when I pet him, just his quills. Staff was friendly, particularly Mrs. Rodriguez. If I could give them zero I would. When I took my seriously injured dog there they wouldn't even treat her until I paid them $600! That wasn't even the total when they were done though. It was well over $1000 for a paw injury. She was bleeding everywhere and freaking out and they didn't give her anything to calm her and she bled everywhere before they saw her. I absolutely love this vet. I moved here from tx and wasn't sure where to take my dogs so I looked at reviews online. Since going to dr. Szekley they have always taken great care of our animals and even call the following days to check on how they're doing. If I haven't been able to afford an emergency (my dog just got in a fight and had a large open wound) they work with me and go the extra mile that shows they honestly care about their clients animals, where a lot of vets would do little and send you on your way. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Szekley and his staff.... I've never taken a pet to a better vet. My dog Ranger has some eye problems, so I took him in last week. The staff was wonderful, all smiles and you could tell that they really love animals. Ranger was pretty freaked out, and I was a little worried about putting him up on the table for the exam, (90 lbs of freaked out dog = bad) but when Dr. Szekley came in he got down on the floor and did all the exams and tests right there. He even called a specialist in Phoenix for me and got back to me that same night, even though it was way past working hours. I recently moved to the area from OH. This last Saturday, I found myself in desperate need of a veterinarian for my dog. After seeing the reviews for this place on here, I decided to give it a shot. I called around 10 AM and, with the office closing at 1, the receptionist assured me that they could squeeze us in. When I arrived, the receptionist asked for some basic information regarding my dog and offered me refreshments while I waited. I was promptly seen by the veterinarian, who was very thorough and demonstrated extreme competence. I meant to write a favorable review that day but forgot. I was reminded to write this review just now, shortly after the veterinarian personally called me to check up on my dog. He said that he would check in a couple more times. The day I took my dog to have eye looked at I waited a while and was probably there almost three hours. I was offered water and never got and it was extremely hot in waiting room and vet room. I was told to give eye drops and come back in a week. Went back and appt was for 9:15 and we didn't go back until 10:00. The vet came in and said oh I already saw him and said continue eye drops and come back in a week. Well they called Monday to see how my dog was doing and I said good but I need to change appt to afternoon she said ok let me check and I will call you back. Never got a call and appt was today but no idea what time. I chose this vet because he was close but with my experience I will go to original vet. I cannot recall the frustration I have had with a business that I have had with Granite Mountain. As one of the other reviewers stated, when you walk in to the clinic, it is laid out with nice furniture, tv's in 2 corners and lots of high end pet food on display. But there is never anyone at the front desk. I walk in and go to the desk and someone eventually comes from the back to see what they can do for me and then they disappear into the back regions and I wait for them to come back out. I have quite a few issues with this clinic. We moved here in May of 2018. I brought our elderly cat in to see the vet and to get his medication refilled in July 2018. We obtained his pet records from the previous vet clinic and gave them to the new clinic and they continued his medication. I would call and ask them to fill the prescription and we would work out the date and time. At least once that I can recall, I called to have his prescription filled and said I would be by on such and such a date after noon. I called on that date to let them know I was on my way and they had no clue what I was talking about. Most times, I would let them know we needed a refill and I would go in to pick it up and they would be back in the back for so long, they were more than likely filling the prescription at that moment. In March of 2019, we took him in for his yearly update including labs. I had noticed a black spot on the cat's chin and brought it to the attention of the veterinarian. When we picked our cat up later that day, the vet said it wasn't anything and that he might have allergies and to try some of the pet food on display. They were always trying to upsell products. In June of 2019, we noticed that the cat's chin was covered in red bumps and black spots. Eventually, my husband discovered that it was feline acne. We took the cat to a different veterinarian and they gave him a steroid shot and antibiotics which he ended up being on for about a month. We have FINALLY gotten his feline acne under control and when we attempted to make the new veterinarian clinic our home clinic, Granite Mountain would not release our cat's records. It took my calling both clinics numerous times to finally get our cat's records to the new vet. read more

We have had several dogs and several vets and hands down we love this office and this vet the most. He really treats your dog like it is one of his own, the way I treat my dogs which is saying a lot. There are many times they are running behind but it is always for an emergency and we are always checked on by staff, given water, and always feel like we get a lot of time with the Dr. When we brought in our 16 yr old golden to be put down once his hips just gave out, dr Szezksly carried him back to our car for us so we could bring him home to bury. We bring our 3 dogs (including our new puppy) to him and would never go anywhere else. Pricing is reasonable and they even worked with us when my husbands paycheck was delayed. LOVE THEM!! read more

I just relocated to the area and had not established with a new vet. The first time I went to their office, I thought how nice it seemed. They stocked an expensive prescription dog food that I had been having a hard time finding. I was grateful I had found them. However, when I actually needed my dog to be seen, I had a much different experience. There were three separate times I called to get help for something and 3 out of 3 times they said they would call me back and they did not. My pet was in pain and it was very thoughtless to leave me hanging...not knowing if they would see him or not. Unfortunately, I had to have my dog euthanized and they were the most expensive of the 5 other vets that I called in the area. Because of that, I chose a different vet. I had purchased a case of the dog food from them a week before and ended up with a half case of canned, unopened, perfectly good food on my hands. I thought under the circumstances they would let me return them as I still had the receipt. When I first called about it they wanted to know which vet did the euthanasia. Once they learned where, they suddenly had to discuss returning the food with a manager. Not getting a return call, again, I drove there with the food. I was met at the door being told it was policy not to take back food once purchased. I would've understood had it been dry food that had been opened, but canned? Truly disappointing....it left me wondering what that policy would've been had I used them for the euthanasia. Quite different I believe. I've learned one thing...if I ever get another pet, I will never ever use Granite Mtn or refer anyone to them. A wolf in sheep's clothing.... read more

Make sure you are on the same page as this vet before using... they didn't ask us how much intervention we wanted for our fur baby before a roller coaster two weeks ago. Our five year old boxer had lost a significant amount of weight over 4 days- took her in to see this vet based on the high average reviews. She had been to see him as a puppy for so she already had a record with them. Vet said that she looked okay but we should do a blood test. We were told blood test would take an hour or so and we could leave her and pick her up when they called... three hours later WE called to follow up and were told she should stay overnight on IV fluids. Learned she had liver and pancreas damage, and low white blood cell count. Next day went to pick her up and told she was doing better but should stay another night, she didn't look any better. Next day didn't hear anything so stopped in for update early afternoon, told she could come home and waited 3 1/2 hours to learn that our bill was 2x what we had ever verbally approved. Vet finally told us the cause could be tick fever or bone cancer (which we had learned online by then) but recommended a test for tick fever which is treatable. We approved that test then took her home with liver treatments and food. The office staff said she was doing better, though she looked worse, couldn't breathe through her nose and was completely purple and red across her chest. Three rough days later, she stopped eating again (among other challenges). Stopped by this vets office to pick up another can of food and was told by the vet that it was not tick fever per the test results. That night we made the difficult choice to let her go, but at another vets office. Since then my husband and I both have received communication from this vet that they are shocked at our decision (guilt trip?) and were told that the vet was planning to provide follow up at no charge. If you want a vet to level with you upfront, perhaps choose another vet. The vet we went to for euthanasia was so comforting and instantly told us that these cancers are common in boxers and many full bred dogs. Some people choose full intervention and that is their right, but no one should be given a guilt trip for giving mercy to a suffering pet. read more

As clients of this clinic, we were more than satisfied until last week. We have an elderly cat with terminal cancer and requested a current exam to determine if it was time to allow our pet to be euthanized. One week ago we were told that the clinic had no records on our cat, but the staff would search and call us back. I offered to deliver our own copies of her records but was assured that the clinic would handle our request. Two days passed and no one called us back, despite our numerous inquiries. On Monday of this week I delivered a copy of our records and pleaded for an appointment. Today is Thursday and we were told that "Valerie" never shared the records with the vet or the urgency of our request for an appointment. She also never returned one phone call for the entire week. The next available appointment is two weeks out, and we were recommended to a vet in Prescott Valley. We specifically wanted to see Dr. Sleekly because we trust his judgement. When choosing life or death for a pet, would you want to discuss the options with a stranger? Our cat will likely pass before we can find a reputable vet with an immediate appointment. Coincidentally, two of our neighbors recommended Dr. Sleekly and insist that if he knew the circumstances, he would be available. Apparently the front office has a reputation of incompetence and he is so busy being a compassionate doctor, that he is not aware of the issues with his employees. Maybe a friend will see our review and he will consider new management. Our cat is terminal either way, but we will never know if she would have passed in a more peaceful manner if Valerie had taken the time to do her job. read more
