Less than two hours for Miss Loki to realize she found her forever dad!
    Lisa D.

We adopted Miss Loki ( formerly known as Kiwi), 9 days ago and couldn't be happier. I could go on and on about this sweet girl who has just seamlessly fit into our family but since the review is about the Yavapai Humane Society, I will contain myself‍. The staff here are amazing and the facility is well organized. The amount of good they are doing can't be measured. The staff is friendly, helpful, professional and do their jobs with passion and enthusiasm! We were very happy with our tour of the facility, meet and greet with Loki, and our Gotcha Day exit process. They do require you schedule an appointment to visit any dogs so don't wait until you see a dig online to schedule. Plan ahead! They are very busy and we had to wait almost a week to get in. Have a list of dogs you would like to meet. The staff allows you half an hour to visit with the dogs per appointment. Check website for open to the public hours as they are not traditional business operational hours. Please take your time making the decision on your new family member. These animals have often been through a lot. With that being said, if you get home and it's not a good fit the shelter does have a return policy. This is a judgement free zone. Please return the animal so another family has a chance to give this fur baby a home. If you are looking for a fur baby please consider adopting from the Yavapai Humane Society!

The Yavapai Humane Society does extraordinary work... Shortly after arriving in Prescott, we adopted an orange tabby from YHS whom we named Cheeto. Cheeto is a smart, engaging kitty who is also very vocal. She's a great addition to our forever fur family!

    Karma's Adoption Day

I adopted my new kitten Karma at our local PetSmart as part of the Yavapai Humane Society pet adoptions. Our new baby is doing well and getting acclimated to her new home.

Adopted my little girl with the assistance of a very capable and compassionate staff. I met five prospects and decided on one. Great choice and flawless adoption.

I made an appointment to visit the dogs. I was greeted with a warm welcome. After describing the personality I was looking for a member of the staff made a suggestion for a dog named Rosie. She is quite possibly the best dog in the world and I'm grateful to have her in my life. Thank you Yavapai Humane Society for what you do!

We went to PetSmart today to adopt a kitten for my daughter. My husband was home and still on the fence about it. The lady was so nice and put the kitten that we liked on hold for us. We came back and it was a different lady there that did the adoption process. Both ladies were so sweet and kind. We got our kitten and she's been purring and happy since we got home! Not to mention, my toddler is completely in love with her. Such a great experience! Thank you so much! We love our new addition to our family

Recently moved to the area, so I went to see the local humane society. All the staff members were really friendly and welcomed me when I walked in. The dog kennels were clean and everyone had water and a bed, you could even give them treats. I ended up falling in love with an older dog named Big Ben, and I was able to play with him outside. I couldn't leave without him, so I adopted him that day. When I was filling out the paperwork for Ben, the staff members were all so happy for him and all knew right away who he was! From that I can tell the entire staff truly cares for the animals there, and are genuinely happy when one is adopted. I want to thank the staff for giving Ben the love he deserved while he was there. I hope to adopt another family member very soon! You all rock!

Miss Kitty's Cat House is about accepting and then rehoming cats and finding them the best home possible...not in pleasing "customers." Their volunteers are very nice, but will not rehome one of their fosters without first insuring that they meet Miss Kitty's criteria for a good home for their cats. Yesterday, we took them a little cat that had been dumped in our neighborhood. We could not keep her ourselves because we have a very sickly easily frightened elder cat of our own. We live an hour away from Miss Kitty's. Barb at Miss Kitty's was very helpful and explained the criteria we had to meet to have little Sweetie accepted and directed us to a vet that would do her qualifying exam on a walk-in basis. (Every other vet was booked a week or more out). So we made the trip, got her accepted, and were blown away by their facility. Cats appeared relaxed and were lounging and roaming uncaged in a super clean rescue house. So while it broke my heart to give the little girl up, I am greatly relieved to have found Miss Kitty's. We know that Miss Kitty's will carefully vet any prospective new parents for her and that she will be well cared for while waiting for her forever home. We are David and Glenda Freeman. We live in Cottonwood. We are now regular doners to Miss Kitty's Cat House, as it is an awesome and much needed facility for orphaned cats.

Their help was so appreciated, and we tell everyone about Miss Kitty's and their deeds whenever we can bring it up. While I did not experience any of the things mentioned in the negative reviews on here, I would rather an animal adoption facility that prioritizes the animals in their care over customer service for humans.

Read between the lines of the 1 star revenge reviews and think about what category of humans would leave a revenge review in the first place, knowing that it makes it harder to find a qualified home for these cats. If you were unqualified to adapt a cat here, which is what all these 1 star reviews are about, look in the mirror. Unqualified meaning, they're 85 years old and want a kitten (do the math), or they want a cat to "serve" a demented relative as sort of a mental stimulation for the relative, or they've had a history of taking a 10 year long pet to the pound because they "couldn't afford" some needed vet treatment, or they have a cat already and let it run around outdoors. Or Grandma wants a kitten to entertain a 5 year old. And so much else. You'll find shelters in Prescott that will give you what you want, regardless to whether you are qualified. The reality is that the bigger the turn-around the shelter has, the more adoption fees they can generate, and the more new cats they can give a chance to. It's a very very tough choice for a shelter and in some ways there isn't a right and wrong. All involved are well meaning. It's just that for this shelter, there's a personal attachment to all that have ended up here, and she (owner) has a commitment to them that involves adopting out only to a person/party that very likely will give this cat a long life of happiness. Come visit. I guarantee you will be shocked at the totally undeserved Yelp average review. This place is top notch.

It ain't that hard. Catty Shack does an awesome job of caring for cats and making them available to folks who fit their criteria. Folks who they feel would take good care of the little ones.
