I showed up at 5:15, because they're sign says and the website say they close at 5:30. I went to get a pet license because the website wasn't working. Everyone was leaving and said the hours changed a long time ago. I drove 40 minutes to get there. Now the manager falsely replied on my other rating that I went to get free food for my pet and they gave it to me. Either he's completely confused or it's a flat out lie to make them look good and me to be some sort of jerk. They can care less about honoring the hours posted on their website or the sign on the door. Even if you've driven close to an hour to get there. read more

We adopted Miss Loki ( formerly known as Kiwi), 9 days ago and couldn't be happier. I could go on and on about this sweet girl who has just seamlessly fit into our family but since the review is about the Yavapai Humane Society, I will contain myself‍. The staff here are amazing and the facility is well organized. The amount of good they are doing can't be measured. The staff is friendly, helpful, professional and do their jobs with passion and enthusiasm! We were very happy with our tour of the facility, meet and greet with Loki, and our Gotcha Day exit process. They do require you schedule an appointment to visit any dogs so don't wait until you see a dig online to schedule. Plan ahead! They are very busy and we had to wait almost a week to get in. Have a list of dogs you would like to meet. The staff allows you half an hour to visit with the dogs per appointment. Check website for open to the public hours as they are not traditional business operational hours. Please take your time making the decision on your new family member. These animals have often been through a lot. With that being said, if you get home and it's not a good fit the shelter does have a return policy. This is a judgement free zone. Please return the animal so another family has a chance to give this fur baby a home. If you are looking for a fur baby please consider adopting from the Yavapai Humane Society! read more

The worst animal shelter I've ever visited. Looking for a dog to adopt recently, and decided to give Yavapai Humane Society a try as they are closest to my home. To begin with, you have to make an appointment. Every other shelter I've been to allows walk-ins. But okay, made the appointment. Arrived at the appointed time, and found the front desk was disorganized chaos, with several staff members all tripping over one another doing I don't know what, and lots of very loud conversations competing with one another. Nevertheless, one of the staff members came to help us, and find out we can't go walk through the dog kennels to see the dogs. Nope, all we are allowed to do is scan through an online webpage with a single snapshot of each dog. And if you see a dog you like, they will bring out the dog to meet you. We told the staff member what we were looking for, and he was of no help. He just kept scrolling up and down the page of snapshots. Ended up just saying thanks but no thanks and left. YHS seems to be booked up till eternity -- because I don't think they actually are saving cats. It's frightening. No shelter has only four kittens. The Humane Society is a joke! One star is being generous! BEWARE!!!! I tried adopting a "senior" dog. It didn't work since the only time "Doug" didn't bark was when she was asleep. I took her back in just a couple days and they fought me. I mentioned the barking and they asked "is that the only complaint?" Sorry but isn't that enough? There was no way I could train a 9 year old dog not to bark. Then there was the cat I adopted from the Humane Society (through Petsmart). He was nice for awhile but turning on the kitchen faucet & causing a mini flood was a problem. I had to use rubber bands to make it harder to turn on the water. But, when he AGGRESSIVELY ran full force at my legs and tripped me, causing me to fall, I knew I needed to surrender him. All they said they were "full" but someone would get back with me. That was a week ago and no one has called! The person I spoke to indicated I could always just let him out but that could mean fines & possible jail. WHY WOULD HE SAY THIS? read more

To say that I highly recommend Premier Pet Hospital would be an understatement. All the staff at Premier Pet Hospital are friendly, kind, and very compassionate. You can tell they all genuinely love what they do. I have never had our 8 year old dog, Jayla, relax the way she did at any vet's office the way did here. The prices are very reasonable and were explained in detail so I always knew where I stood. Our vet tech was so gentle and thoughtful you would think she was caring for her own dog. Dr. Vergason made us feel like we were his only clients...we weren't rushed, he took his time explaining Jayla's condition and what steps we needed to take to help with her recovery. He was just so wonderful with Jayla that it brought tears to my eyes when I told my husband about our experience. We're new to the area and was very concerned we wouldn't find a good fit for our fur babies and now we found more than we could ever pray for. read more

We went to PetSmart today to adopt a kitten for my daughter. My husband was home and still on the fence about it. The lady was so nice and put the kitten that we liked on hold for us. We came back and it was a different lady there that did the adoption process. Both ladies were so sweet and kind. We got our kitten and she's been purring and happy since we got home! Never have I experienced such poor care. Adopted a dog on Saturday brought her home 3 days later with an abscess the size of a nerf football. Called everyday to find out if something had happened to her like a dog fight or a struggle out on a walk. On the way to the vet for her free wellness checkup the abscess ruptures. Was told that we can bring her in the next morning and they would clean up the wound and take care of her. To no avail we show up and the clinic says we own her now and they will do nothing. only option was to surrender her and readopt. 230.00 later in vet bills. My dog is finally on the track to healing. The staff is ver friendly and whenever we called to check on our dog we would be greeted with a really warm and friendly person.. Recently moved to the area, so I went to see the local humane society. All the staff members were really friendly and welcomed me when I walked in. The dog kennels were clean and everyone had water and a bed, you could even give them treats. I ended up falling in love with an older dog named Big Ben, and I was able to play with him outside. I couldn't leave without him, so I adopted him that day. When I was filling out the paperwork for Ben, the staff members were all so happy for him and all knew right away who he was! From that I can tell the entire staff truly cares for the animals there, and are genuinely happy when one is adopted. I want to thank the staff for giving Ben the love he deserved while he was there. I hope to adopt another family member very soon! You all rock! read more

If I could leave no stars I would. I've had about 10 appointments to get our dog fixed here and they finally called again today to cancel the appointment until September. Absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention last month they RESCHEDULED our appointment to the next day without notifying us so my husband took our 4 year old out at 630 to wait for them to open at 7 and he waited until 8am thinking maybe they were running late and no one showed, therefore we missed our appointment the next day because no one answers the phone when we call. This place is great! I was antsy to come look at a couple dogs but my husband doesn't get off work until 5pm everyday. So we rushed once he was off and got there at about 5:40. I felt kind of bad for coming in late but that staff didn't care at all! They were all so nice to us when we came in. We didn't really come with the intent of taking a dog home that night but of course we did. I had a couple dogs in mind when we went, one of which was named Dorothy. She's a 2 year old lab mix(I think she has some pit in her). The staff immediately knew who she was when we came out and said we wanted to meet her. They brought her out to a little play area and we fell in love. We decided to take her home with us. I've had bad experiences in the past with shelters in another state so I was waiting for the judge mental questions to start coming, but they never did! These people just genuinely cared about finding homes for these dogs. I asked a million questions and they answered every single one, even if the answer was "I'm not sure". This experience changed my view on shelters and we'll be back to find Dorothy a friend when we're all ready to take that step! Thank you Yavapai Humane Society!! read more

I adopted my second dog from here almost a year ago, and I recently adopted my third one. The facility is clean, bright and odorless, the staffs are super friendly! I love this place so much, adoption is easy. At the time when I only had one dog and was looking for another one, the staff taught me how to introduce my dog to her future sibling and taught me things I should know when I brought them home! I've volunteered here for 2 years. I am so impressed by the professionalism & dedication of the staff. Every morning that my friend & I show up, the kennels are faithfully being scrubbed clean with soap & water, we wash dishes & then sanitize them, cuddle blankets & towels are cleaned & sanitized, each dog is walked & fed daily with treats and the medical facility is thorough with each animal. They truly care about the animals who come in with so many different histories. The behaviorists work with the animals who've been abused, both dogs & cats, & some get rehabilitated & rehomed. Surrendered my dog I go back 2 weeks Later to check up on her and she has cuts over her nose and scabs in legs and a absist in her leg. We brought her to the vet and was going to be more then a thousand $ to fix and we bring her back to the humane society and they refuse to fix the problem and now we have to pay over thousand $ to fix a problem that never should have happened. First time ever to use humane society to spay/neuter a pet so was a little leary, BUT what a great surprise we had! The check in was organized, thoroughly explained process and pick up the same. At 1/4th the cost of our Vet, we were very glad we used Yavapai Spay/Neuter clinic. Our 6 month old blue heeler was sent home with plenty of pain meds and she healed within 3 - 4 days to the point we didn't have to restrain her as much. Heelers are active dogs so it wasn't easy! Would never hesitate to use them again. read more

We were visiting up in Prescott from the Phoenix area. We gave been looking for a dog to add to our family. We decided on a whim to stop by. Everyone the was very helpful. We wandered the dog section, and what do you know, we found a dog that just called our name. Turns out he is a coon hound. He has been the best natured dog we had arrived in Prescott on a Thursday with hotel reservations until Saturday. We explained to the Humane Society our dilemma. They worked with us and held our new family member aside until Saturday morning when we could pick him up. They gave us a list of what we should get to make him comfortable on the ride back to Phoenix. We went to Petsmart and found everything we needed. When we showed up on Saturday to pick our new hound up, the employees were very helpful getting our paperwork completed so we could be on our way. We've had Oreo now for about 6 weeks and he's been the perfect dog for us. read more

They were caring, knowledgeable and provided an amazing level of service. I watched staff and volunteers taking time with the animals so they really knew each one.
