I visited this phenomenon, a gem, first time on New Years' day from Nassau , arrived 10am...twas like the night before Christmas when nothing----no other business---was stirring in HO-HO-KUS, not even a mouse. But GRANNY's was up--wide awake!! Normally I would not travel to NJ knowing just one place(GRANNY's)was open, considering expense-- gas/tolls.Many people go antique hunting by stringing shops together in hopes of finding what they're looking for by the end of the circuit. But that's what brings me to my first point : if you get only to GRANNY's but no further you'll still get your fill, will "bite off more than you can chew". As a local , repeat, discerning customer there noted " I come here to get my fix" (antiques his drug of choice) ---even that guy was still marveling/incredulous, shaking his head " like a kid in a candy store" after coming to GRANNY's for years. Obviously, the novelty has not faded for him. I was palpitating, excited when I arrived at the door; instantly I knew it was worth the trip from long Island---Granny's exceeded expectations.One cannot imagine how big 30,000 sq. feet actually is until you get inside to see for yourself. Outdoor sign promising "HUGE SELECTION" is an understatement---try COLOSSAL!! When you take into account how densly arrayed items are , all the layers-- i.e, the metal library type shelves in rows upstairs concealing troves of smaller items---you'll need patience, an adventurous spirit and resolve to get to everything---and TIME. But that's fun part. My advice--get there early.Eat before you arrive.Bring a snack--u could get hungry along the journey. Don't be in a rush. Take a break, if you must, have lunch on the avenue then come back refreshed to see upper levels--not to be missed. Also, consider limits before u leave home to plan intake---you'll want to know in advance if that dream piece found at GRANNY's will fit or not. And bring a tape measure. Going to GRANNY's was like heading to Manhattan intending to get to all the museums on the museum mile in one afternoon but getting completely absorbed at the first stop---THE METROPOLITAN--- and viewing one Wing, but nothing more! I spent 3 hours there(GRANNY'S)---probably scratched the surface--- and had not the inclination to keep going once I left. Oddly, I was happy nothing else(antiques) was open because I was over stimulated by GRANNY's which I ---and virtually every other patron I encountered---found compelling, not to be believed...." this is a gold mine--enormous"..."you mean there's more upstairs? Two more floors? What? WOW!!" This place fires the imagination: people felt privileged to be present---were saying so----no exaggeration! Thank GOD for GRANNY's ! It was like a pilgrimage to a holy site ---Church of the Latter Day Treasures--- that EVERYONE should make in their lifetime! An award should be given to the proprietors for their courage to undertake these proportions, business on such a grand scale, sort of like oceanographers excavating the TITANIC. Which brings me to my next point. Recovering treasures from sunken ships costs lots of time, daring, research, planning, sweat and investment($$). Similiarly, GRANNY's proprietors deal w/logistics, i.e. attend estate sales,auctions,study/research, purchase , transport and finally hoist heavy objects/marble busts/furniture---many gargantuan in size, probably from estates William Randolph Hearst would envy, ones we would never, ever see except in books or t.v. shows ----into the rafters of a three story warehouse. The customer does not know---nor appreciate---the time/endeavor involved in the business' ultimately affecting the price.I distinctly remember it being warm and toasty inside GRANNY's that day--hot, in fact. I'm sure it's not cheap to lease, insure, light and heat a 30,000 sq. foot warehouse. Proprietors ain't payin for a spot at the flea market. That's why i'm open & willing to patronize places like GRANNY's---they bring to light things that are worth paying for , beautiful things we would otherwise never get to see or appreciate---or take home!!!!Without the likes of GRANNY where would we go for great stuff? To Target, Ikea? Woe to us!.Good luck with that mass produced, assemble yourself mediocrity--you can keep it.I won't be looking for that junk on craigslist.Sell it at garage sales for garage sale prices where mostly the commonplace and the ordinary literally travel from the living room to the garage(or to curb when unsold). Back to craigslist--even ordinary citizens selling art, for example, not in the art business per say, people we might take for granted or assume they are negotiable... are not necessarily so flexible when selling their family heirlooms, art treasures handed down by grandpa, etc..It takes plenty of time to asess value, do research on artists, compose blurbs, post online, field inquiries,sell, ship, follow up. My point:splurge, pay for rare,high end,quality things.You get what you pay for. read more

OMG......I'm with the last guy, 5 ***** stars for sure!!! Is Maury, (the owner) giving everything away dirt cheap, NO, but he is fair. Its like the previous guy said "you have to troll through Craig list like everyone else if your looking for a bargain" The owner has to buy the stuff and then resell it to make a profit, he is a business after all. My husband and I were there Saturday and this place is incredible. We were there for a couple of hours and bought a beautiful antique curio, a couple of vase's and some chotchkies. None of what we went there looking for....lol I guess that means we will just have to go back...YEAH Is it a little over whelming, not everything priced and only the owner can give you a price, a little dingy YES. Is stuff everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE...YES , But that is the charm of this place You can't just run in and find what your looking for, it takes time to go through this place and I don't think you even see it all in a couple of hours as there is way too much to process, but we had a BLAST there. It is amazing to see, and you have to see it to believe it. But you have to go there in the right frame of mind, It is a HUGE warehouse, chock full, and I mean CHOCK FULL of treasures everywhere you look. You walk out of there literally drained from over stimulation....lol I Loved the place, I Loved the owner Maury, I really, really enjoyed talking to him. So, If your looking for something old, unique, beautiful, or odd you will definitely find it at Granny's Attic....or if you have a few hours to spare it is well worth it just to walk around the place.....A truly must see! WOW!! Granny's Attic is unlike any other antique & art business I have ever been to. After hearing so many great things about this place i decided to take a trip and see for myself what the buzz was all about. As soon as i walked through the doors i was in shock! They have 30,000 square feet and 3 floors loaded with treasures and great finds from all over the world. I was hoping to buy something by the time i left, and after spending 3 exiting hours rummaging through everything i discovered a handful of things that i fell in love with. Maury is the owner of Granny's who kindly introduced himself to me and the rest of his helpful & friendly staff. When negotiating a price for the items i had, he worked with me a lot and gave me a killer deal on the items that i wanted. It is for sure to say that i will be back regularly to get lost in history while in the company of thousands of different antiques in every category one can think of. Wow! This is my go-to place for one of a kind things. I don't like cheap furniture, and I like things with a bit of character and style. If that's how you are, you won't go wrong here. You can wander through this store for hours and not see everything, but go with something particular in mind, and you will very likely find it. The store folks are great, and if there is a scratch or a dent on something, they can fix it right up for you, and deliver it to your house too. Often the same day you buy it! I have basically furnished my entire house at Granny's, artwork too...but don't be in a hurry. Go there when you have time to linger. Talk to Maury or John. Tell them what you are looking for, if you get overwhelmed. They know where everything is and can help you out. But don't think this place is GoodWill or a flea market. Though the inventory can look a bit jumbled, it's good stuff, and they won't just give it away. But if you understand the value of what you are looking at, you can get great deals. Such a cool place. I am a regular customer and usually buy 3-5 items a week. I buy a little bit of everything or whatever catches my eye. I dont worry too much about prices because the owner Maury always works with me and gives great deals. The whole 2nd floor is a "Pickers Paradise" with thousands of rare and unique trinkets that you dont see everyday. There is a ton of vintage stuff as well. I can walk through Granny's over and over and always discover something new. Im always buying Oil Paintings, Cast Iron Toys, Silver plate, Typewriters, Early 20th Century Stuff, Bronze Statues, Advertising Memorabilia, etc. Granny's has something for everyone though. Its a warehouse full of items from all centuries and continents. Hundreds of gorgeous furniture pieces that include Art Deco, Early American, Vintage, Victorian, Asian Inspired, European, African, Cultured, etc. Go check it out and see for yourself. A great store! Pick and chose style shopping - you got to dig. Most of the items (especially smaller items) are not that overpriced, I purchased 2 antique tea cups and saucers for $15 each, they have wonderful items to offer, most things do not have a price tag on them so you need to pick what you want and run it down stairs. There was a very nice handsome young man named Nick working who helped me pick out a dresser, he was very polite and took the time to help me dig through their inventory and moved various heavy pieces for over 20 minutes just so I can get a look. He gave me measurements, was knowledgable, tips on how to refinish the furniture, and was just so sweet. The owner Maury is very nice, they deliver. There is a dog in the store if you are scared, but doesn't roam around. I give Granny's a 5 star rating!! read more

An amazing space: three floors stacked to the brims with treasures. The husband and I have been shopping there for years, always finding unusual items at various price points. From real jaw-dropping antiques to vintage tchochkes that make us smile. Half the fun is digging through piles of stuff not knowing what awaits. Store owner Maury is a gem. He has a keen eye, a vast knowledge, and endless stories. Prices are fair. It's not NYC or the posh stores of CT, but this isn't a bargain basement and most items are authentic and worth it, and as long as you negotiate respectfully and realistically, there is some flexibility. read more

I had the time to finally check out this unique antique shop in Ho Ho Kus. I was amazed at the size and selection of the place. Three floors filled with some of the finest antiques I have seen in one place. For the last year I have been looking for a locally made ladder back chair and just my luck they had one. The Prices are extremely fair, the staff is knowledgeable, and helpful. I will definitely recommend this antique shop to my friends.
