On top of that, his prices are competitive--trust me I looked and looked to beat his prices and I couldn't. You might fins a piece or two cheaper, but they get you on deliver or other charges. Will give you two examples of why I do business with Mario. First, was buying bedroom furniture for my kids. One of my kids came to the conclusion that the head board book shelf would not be so practical given the pillow would go into the shelf cavity when sleeping preventing it from having any real use.. Mario said no problem. He extended the legs (with the same maple wood that matched perfectly at no charge) to the correct height so that the shelf was above the pillow level. The second example of his generosity came when I started staining the furniture I purchased from Mario at my home. It was a total disaster. I called Mario, explained what happened and he said, no problem, bring it in and we'll fix it. He set me up in his work area, gave me the supplies to fix the mistake, showed me how to do it right, and then sent me home. I finished the rest myself and could not be happier to see how it turned out. You find another guy who will do that for you at no charge---seriously try to find someone. Prices were okay. They didn't have a lot in stock for what I was looking for (especially in the…read moreprice range I was looking for). I wanted a table that came with 6 chairs that didn't break the bank. What they had in stock didn't work for us, but I found some chairs that matched a table they would have back in stock in a few days (apparently they had tried to deliver it to someone who sent it back). I was able to get a small discount because of a small scratch, so that was good. The delivery went well. They were able to get the couches in without issue (they definitely get an A+ for that!). They brought the table the table and chairs and put everything together. The reason I gave 3 stars is because of the quality of the chairs for the price I paid. ALL of them have had screws fall out. I've also had to use wood glue to keep some chairs from falling apart. We're not large people, and we don't abuse the chairs (we barely even used them for a few months because we were still unpacking and had stuff on the table so we couldn't use it). The couches have been fine, so maybe if you're going to buy from Furniture House, just stick with couches. I would search elsewhere for a dining table and chairs.

I contacted Allyson from A and R and she agreed to meet with me in her store and assist me. I brought with me samples of the remodel tiles, fabric samples etc. She spent a good deal of time with me and also showed me a special paint line of BM I didn't even know about. She came up with the perfect colors. Then I was able to go down the street to the paint store she recommended me to to buy samples. I bought the 3 paint colors to NYC today and they were perfect. Best of all, they listened, captured, and implemented our design needs and style. When possible they worked with items currently in our home. Our first project, with A&R, was redecorating a room in which they added to the existing furnishings. The proportions of the furniture are perfect and they knew exactly where to put that special piece. Additionally, A&R has been very helpful with our remodel. Allyson had many great suggestions and assisted in avoiding pitfalls during the construction process. Sometimes it's the small details that really give your home that extra special touch. Communication throughout the process was great. During the design process, we were shown different options both at our home and the A&R showroom and were able to understand how everything would work together. Having an open floor plan, it was important that the colors were able to tie into other rooms. We were updated on manufacturer production schedule, inspection, and delivery. We have been very happy and look forward to using A&R again!

When we started searching for furniture for our new house a few years ago Derbyshire popped up on just about every list I checked and had plenty of great reviews. Now that we've made a few of our own purchases I totally understand the praise this small business gets. The shop is small but mighty and packed with so many good pieces. If your style leans traditional - they've got it. If your style leans more contemporary/modern - they've got it. Plus a few things in between that could go in either direction and work with just about any style or decor. Everything is solid wood and totally customizable. You can pick your stain or paint plus your hardware (should you order something with hardware, of course). The couple that owns the shop have always been very kind and very patient, answering all the questions... especially when I was coming in every other week for too many weeks to look at dressers before I finally made up my mind. Lead time was accurate, delivery days/times were accommodating and the guys that arrived to place our items were totally courteous. For our last order/delivery the guys didn't leave until they leveled our dressers perfectly. I didn't even have to ask.. they just did it and that's how a good delivery and install team should operate. Truly, I only have good things to say about Derbyshire. Next piece of wood furniture that we need I will definitely be stopping in Derbyshire first to check things out.

With a name like "Granny's Attic" and the dusty old outside appearance, you can see how people might think this was one of those rummage stores that try to pass themselves off as "antique" stores. This is not that. If Neiman Marcus were an antique store, it would be Granny's Attic. This is not where you go to find a $500 antique dining set - you have to troll craigslist like the rest of us. This is where you go with your fancy-pants designer and furnish your penthouse in gorgeous antiques. Or, like the rest of us, you go here to find the one or two beautiful splurge items that add character to a room. There is something of a display challenge in that there is so much incredible stuff here (literally boggles the mind with decorating possibilities), you simply cannot appreciate it. It wants for a stately showroom (but where's the fun in that). This stuff is very high end and there are some extremely interesting pieces. And, I'll just add that we were warmly welcomed by the owner who couldn't have been friendlier (despite me having two little boys in tow, in an antique shop, what was I thinking?!?).
