I found this operation to be slick and highly dishonest. They claim "WE ARE NOW DOING IN HOUSE SHIPPING." (SEE THEIR WEB). t is a con job and probably a highly profitable one. Certainly, this is not the only low-end auction house on LIVEAUCTION that perpetrates this cheesy fraud. Before we purchased an item, we requested an estimate for shipping as we'd had problems with auction houses on LIVEAUCTION wanting 5xs what something cost to ship, and they would only give you the actual cost AFTER you purchased and paid for a lot. If something should cost $40 for handling, boxing and shipping, you get a bill for $200 or more. We rec'd an invoice from John Nye. !!! No shipping cost was noted in the form field!!! John said his partner, Ron, would provide one. Ron emailed that he could only provide shipping cost AFTER you paid for the lot. An auction house that claims to ship but does not know how much to bill?!?!? Same ol', same ol' that most of these low-end auction houses use. Then you get the bill for 5xs what it should cost or they keep/steal your purchase. We estimate that this con job could easily cover their over head. These people John and Ron operate in collusion. Nye & company has what serious collectors call a 'great eye'. If you are a regular follower, what you will see at Nye auctions is not only an interesting variety of antiques and art, but items that many times have a certain distinction in style and craftsmanship that sets them apart from the usual auction fare. Two of my recent Nye purchases illustrate this point: a Sheraton sewing table and a George III arm chair. If you search auctions for either of these, you will come up with a large number available for sale. A Sheraton table or a Georgian chair are easy to find, but what is difficult to find are outstanding examples of design. A certain turn of the wood here or the maker's attention to proportion there make all the difference between an 'average' antique, and one worth cherishing as a fine example of the period. Of course, higher end items are always found at big-name auction houses and always accompanied by big prices. Moderate budgets and serious collecting rarely go together. However, at Nye, if you pay attention and search their auctions habitually, you are certain to discover that special piece of art, or furniture, or porcelain, and surprisingly, you will also find it at a very reasonable price. I do not understand why they have good reviews. They told us that our furniture was worth $5-8,000. All we had to do was send it over. We had enjoyed the furniture for many years but it was period Chinese and we were looking for some extra money at the time so we decided to let it go. :( I had heard you should always put a reserve when putting up something for an Auction. Our Salesman said do not do it. It would not be a good thing to do. They recommended a moving company to get it there which we hired. After several months we finally heard from them saying our furniture went for approx $800 and that after all was said and done (commissions, etc) we would get $400. We were crushed! Now we no longer had our furniture we had a lousy $400 due to their bad advice and recommendation. Do not trust these people, they at best give bad advice, at worst cheated to make their life easier read more

I have done quite a bit of business with Nye & Co. over the years as both a buyer and a seller and both experiences have been wonderful. This auction house rightfully prides itself on it's education and knowledge and honestly serves its customer base with integrity. Over the top customer service! I live in Los Angeles and was able to bid in there auction on-line. I got a great deal on a flatware set and what was even better than that, a young lady who assisted me over the phone, seemed to go out of her way to meet my shipping needs and treated me like I mattered which is not too common with auction houses based on my experience. Overall, my experience with them was a breath of fresh air and I very much look forward to bidding in their future auction. read more

I have dealt with John Nye on several antique issues and I found his response time to be very good and he's always very pleasant (a rare thing in the auction industry). He's a great person to go to If you have antiques to sell. If you are looking to buy, I really like their basement which has great bargains from past auctions. What a pleasant surprise to see an auction house in this part of NJ. I've seen their sign for a long time while sitting in traffic jams on the GSP but I didn't know exactly what they were about until I read a banner attached to the side of their building. Since they said they were open to the public, I decided to check them out. I collect antiques so I am always on the hunt for a new source. I found the staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Even though they were setting up for a new auction, they found time to give me a quick tour. The quality of the items were top notch. The auction actually went up online through Live Auctioneers. It was fun and easy. I wound up buying a Tiffany lamp previously owned by Bruce Willis. I was offered to have it shipped but I picked it up instead. I met the owners, John and Kathy, who talked with me for an hour. Come to find out John is a frequent appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow television program. I understand they will be expanding their auctions to accommodate more floor bidders. I can't wait! There is nothing more fun than an old fashioned auction right here in our own backyard. read more
