Their instructors truly listen to kids and meet them where they are. The coaches are calm, present, consistent, and incredibly kind. They take the time to build trust and confidence. Now my once water-avoidant tween cannonballs into the deep end with his friends. My younger child has thrived here too; he went from no swim skills to strong streamlines and rollovers in just a few months. I especially appreciate their focus on real safety skills, like making sure every child can back float to breathe so they have a way to self-rescue. We always have eyes on the kids when they swim - but now I have the peace of mind knowing they have the skills to stay safe even when they're out of arm's reach. During the lesson, he became very upset and had difficulty continuing the session while in the water. After that experience, he stopped wanting to continue and refused to enter the building. We were still charged for the following month, and a refund or transfer was not approved. Communication around makeup lessons and billing was also not clear. Overall, we decided not to continue.

My son had to go through the Dept of Labor to finally get paid for work done. It seems pretty unethical for an adult team administrator to take advantage of a minor. We had previously taken our younger 3 kids off the team due to inexperienced coaching, rapid coach turnover, and bad accounting where our bills were regularly wrong so I'm not sure if the refusal to pay was some sort of retaliation. Now we swim at CAT and have none of these issues with better coaching and better facilities.

I've spoken to Lauren and a couple of other girls, and they've been incredibly knowledgeable and helpful getting me established. The location has plenty of parking and I truly appreciate how they use a private entrance to keep their families safe. They share the pool area at the LA Fitness, but it's clear they have many safety protocols in place to protect their clients. Another example of this is: the staff wear face shields in the pool while instructing the children. I really appreciate they care holistically about the children's safety. The pool area and locker rooms are spotless and clean - a must! Teacher David was our swim instructor. He was the best part of our experience. David was super respectful, knowledgeable, and great with kids. He gave me tips for teaching my daughter safe water practices and what we can practice with her at home. My experience with SafeSplash has been very disappointing, and I haven't even started classes yet…read more I initially enrolled online but had several questions because the schedule was confusing, the swim levels weren't clearly explained, and the website didn't provide enough information. When I called, I was already three-quarters of the way through the enrollment process. The representative asked me to cancel my online enrollment so he could enroll me over the phone, saying I'd get a better price. It ended up being exactly the same price. I also asked multiple times about private lessons because my schedule is very limited. Instead of answering my question, the representative kept talking about creating a group class. I had to explain several times that I wasn't looking for a group class--I wanted private lessons on a schedule that worked for me. Eventually, we found one group class that fit my schedule, and it was literally the only time I could attend. I enrolled and paid the annual registration fee based on that schedule. Then, on the day the class was supposed to start, SafeSplash changed the class time, making it impossible for me to attend. Since then, I've called twice and have been promised a callback within 48 hours, but no one has followed up. I've also been told that the annual registration fee is non-refundable because my class "already started"--even though the reason I can't attend is because they changed the schedule after I enrolled. I understand that schedules sometimes need to change, but customers shouldn't be penalized or charged a non-refundable fee when the company changes the only class they were able to attend. I hope SafeSplash reconsiders how it handles situations like this and improves both its communication and customer service. I'm happy to change my review if you change my experience. C. Travis

My only gripe about this place is each time I have visited (4 times now) there has been an individual or couple who get a bit too rowdy. I understand that this pool is part of a hotel where people come to vacation and relax but if you are going to drink too much and then make it an annoyance around a public space, please reconsider coming in. I am a little shocked that they let people in at times who are visibly drunk. Anyway, that was just my experience. I recommend bringing waterproof shoes and of course your own towel. The space and the Kennedy School itself are very interesting, given their history and vibe and even location in Portland. If you are looking for a more private space this isn't it but if you are down to share and relax surrounded by noise, this is a safe bet.
