This hotel was a bit strange. My room had 3 steps to the bed area which is hazard for a clumsy person like me. I am guessing I am not the only one because they added a super bright light to the middle step against the wall, with NO off switch. I had to cover it with a pillow! The shower pressure was weak. My window on the first floor faced the main entrance so all night I heard the pew pew sounds of the cross walk lights and the noisy traffic. I did not sleep well. Our trip brought us to Waterford and the Granville Hotel. It faces Meagher's Quay as did our room. Our window however while it faced the water was positioned so you needed to stand on tippy toe to see out it. It is an older establishment but was quite comfortable. If you are limber enough you may get a room like ours on the upper floor. Elevator is small and takes a bit of time to get. Dinner was in the hotel's dining room - Bianconi Restaurant. After dinner we were treated to an Irish Coffee demo. That was informative and delicious. I had hesitated to get one when they were being made but caved when I tasted SO's. Centrally located, historic quaint. Enjoy while in Waterford. read more

I couldn't have been happier with the Granville Hotel. It is scenically located with a view of the river across the street. The price was moderate especially with what you get. Staff was very helpful especially Luke. The rooms are large and nice. Parking is about 150 meters away in a city surface lot. Breakfast was grand with smoked salmon And free Whisky to make Irish Cofee. Whooee! read more

Our stay in late November was great. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable. The location is just next to the viking triangle and the Waterford Factory. The staff were helpful and kind. This is a beautiful old building. Fabulous Waterford chandelier in the entrance way. One lift and lots of small sets of steps. Once we figured out how to turn off the heater and turn on the air conditioner we were set. The room was small but not tiny. It was unusual to see two steps in the hotel room. Unexpected ~ but it added a certain charm. Thankfully there was a little light near the top of the stairs which made going to the bathroom during the night a little safer. The bathroom was to the left as you entered the room. It was warm in the bathroom because of the heated towel rack. Again, another nice little touch. We had dinner in the hotel. The table was beautifully set. The room we were in had a Charleston antebellum feel. The hubby and I chose from the special menu for groups. We both chose the white bread-the Waterford "Blaa." For an appetizer, I had the Shredded Poached Salmon & Prawns. Wasn't what I expected but it was ok. The hubby had the Vegetable Soup. It was very fresh and definitely homemade. For an entree I chose the Poached Wild Atlantic Way Organic Salmon w/Hollandaise Sauce, veggies and mashed potatoes. I especially enjoyed the potatoes. I have high expectations for salmon so it wasn't my favorite. The hubby had Beef and Guinness Casserole~Locally Sourced Beef Braised with Guinness, Fresh Root Vegetables & Herbs; side veggies & a dollop of mashed potatoes. He enjoyed it. For dessert we chose Granville's Warm Apple & Blackberry Crumble with Vanilla Custard. It was warm and delicious. read more

Clean hotel on the river, close walk to everything. We really enjoyed the museums and the Waterford tour. The hotel left us local chocolates and water in the room; a very nice touch. We opted for a balcony room. That would have been a great choice had it not been for the bridge construction on the river directly across from the hotel. The balcony room made noisy, early construction even noisier. We had supper at the bar. We ordered the fish croquettes. There was only one, we expected at least two since the menu was plural. There was also very little fish, mostly potATO. They were tasty, just not as described. We also had the fish and chips, which were nicely prepared hake. We were put a bit off guard watching a bartender pour wine from a glass back 8th the wine bottle. We were also a bit alarmed to watch kitchen staff be brought coffee from an outside establishment. As a word of caution, we stayed in Waterford on a Tuesday night. Almost everything in town was closed by 5pm. There was very little choice for places to dine, few pubs open and no live music. Very grand place! Enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are nicely decorated, clean staff nice and efficient, with plenty of waters for your room each day. A couple of times the fire alarm went off. Evidently a false alarm but not sure why. And there are lots of steps to navigate - even when you take the lift. The best breakfast available anywhere was good but we skipped after the first day - very pricey and I couldn't tell why it was that special. Friendly front desk staff. Easy check-in and checkout. Daily parking validated for after hours parking and a reduced €3 for daily peak. Short walk to the Waterford factory and pretty much anything else to see/do. Of course our first stop was in Waterford. I had to see the Cristal factory in person. This hotel was so charming. The staff so accommodating. I love the old world decor. Yet, very clean and the accommodations updated. My husband enjoyed the cigar lounge. A very relaxing stay before we jumped on the road to finish our trek across Ireland in our tiny car. we will be back as this is one of our favorite places to visit. read more

Nice historical hotel. As usual beds are very hard. Linens are soft. Room has in room safe, free wifi, tea/coffee. Bathroom is nice, lots of hot water. Two bottles of water included. We have an air conditioning unit in our room, that works somewhat. Our room faced the water and had quite a bit of traffic. Noise on 4th fl. They are working construction across the street. Car parking is in the car park directly across the street. So if you have a waterfront room, you've got the noise. Lots of places to walk to from hotel. The restaurant was very nice and good was quite good. Breakfast included in our rate was ton of choices. read more

This is a great hotel. I have stayed here three times now as my Distributor is located in this lovely small city. This hotel is across from the waterfront in a great location with several shops and restaurants nearby. The facility is great with nostalgic appeal. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast is excellent with good quality offerings (especially the Full Irish Breakfast and the Oatmeal with Jameson). The bar is also terrific with tasty food offerings and enjoyable live music. We thoroughly enjoyed our last stay finding the accommodations very pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was quite reasonable at €143.96 which was about $158.25 USD with the exchange rate at the time. This is definitely a great choice when you need a place to stay in Waterford. read more

I have returned to Waterford every year for the last 30 years. Lately with the wife and kids it has been an Airbnb but I take a good number of solo trips. When I am on my own, I stay here, but they do have family arrangements if you are inclined. It is a very affordable 4 star establishment. Comfortable rooms, a friendly staff, a decent bar and an excellent location. If you are a large crowd, they have suitable function rooms and facilitate business meetings etc. read more

This is a very nice hotel near the heart of the historic Waterford. It is pretty much riverfront property. The hotel has undergone some renovations and is quite lovely. The rooms are great. Very spacious and very comfortable beds. The staff here were very friendly and happy to accommodate. The restaurant downstairs in the morning is very good as well. If you go there, you should try the eggs benedict made with the local blaa bread. I would stay here again if I ever found myself in Waterford! read more

Booked directly on their website and got a good rate. The room we got was extremely comfortable. It even had a bath, which if you've had the pleasure of reading any other of my hotel reviews, you'll know is a real bonus. We don't have a bath at home, so needless to say I had five baths during our one night stay.... I exaggerate, I had three (joking, I had one). The wifi (free) was excellent in our room, which surprised me as it was a bit of a warren getting to the room. Front staff were extremely efficient checking in and checking out. Nice too. We were not up in time for breakfast, so cannot comment on it. A very comfortable stay here at the Granville Hotel. You can't go far wrong here, if you need somewhere to stay in Waterford. PS Park in the pay and display carpark on the quay. There's a 24 hour rate which is excellent value. read more

This is an extremely old hotel and it shows. There is no doorman outside so no one to direct you to park in the public lot across the street. No one to help you with your luggage. There is no air conditioning in the hotel. No one has gone out of there way to be helpful. Sat in the bar for 30 minutes while the waitress completely ignored us. Served everyone around us, cleaned tables and refused to even acknowledged us. Could it be because our group was Hispanic and Asian? Or is it simply because we look like we are under 70. We have stayed here twice in two different years (one pre-Covid and one in 2023). It is an older building and "of an era": small lift/elevator, crowded desk area, but lovely pub for lunch/drinks and good restaurant for dining. It is the de factor hotel for coach/bus tours: they usually dine in a function room in back, but be prepared for long waits to use the lift. The management though is very cagey about what they advertize...e.g. they are glib about parking in the quay across the way. However, they do not own that area in any manner, the city does. The hotel will give you a stamped paper to use, but of the three mornings we were there: (1) it did not recognize the paper the first morning, and no-one answered the "press button for help", so we had to pay as cars were waiting behind us. No refund from hotel. The second morning the "call for help" button was broken entirely..had to pay again. The third morning it actually worked. The hotel just washes their hands of any issues. In December during the Waterford "Winterval" celebration, about 90% of that parking area is taken by a Ferris Wheel, rides, and skating area. No other arrangements are made so you are own your own for parking at a another quay area blocks away. I was the driver for two women in their 70s both recently with knee replacements...had scoped out how to park right opposite the door but came down to find from 5a onwards a private car there and tour busses/coaches--and the car hadn't moved by breakfast finishing. I found out the smart-alecky 20yr old girl at the front desk arrives at 4a and leaves her car right there all day (the man stationed at the door says it makes his life difficult and she has got 60 euro tickets but still does it). The coaches using that place I understood but not someone in their 20s feeling so entitled (and rude about it when I asked) to camp out on that prime spot because she was owed it due to arriving at 4a. So we ended up walking on icy pavements gingerly down aways til I could bring the car around. It really spoiled my feeling of this hotel and made me question all the talk the Cusack family has posted about their commitment to guests. Next visit, think we will stay in Kilkenny, and take the train down. read more

Beautiful old waterfront hotel in Waterford. I couldn't believe my eyes when we drove by considering that the room rate was comparable to most of the B&B's we stayed in during our trip. And for a full service hotel? Can't beat it. You will be greeted by the nicest check-in staff (my friend and I joked that we wanted to bring her with us for the rest of the trip) and directed to the lift to take you to your room. Try the carvery at the on-site restaurant for lunch. We made the mistake of going elsewhere (I hate eating in hotels in the states) only to discover that it's one of the best places to eat in Waterford. I also highly recommend the walking tour, which starts conveniently in the lobby of the hotel. Waterford is easily covered on foot in an afternoon but if you decide to stay over, the Granville is a wonderful option! read more

what can i say about the Granville that every other review doesn't already stay. its amazing. the food was so good we ate both nights, in the bar the first night and in the restaurant the second night. how anywhere can make their veg taste so good is just beyond me. the price is amazing for the service and the quality of food you get. a special thanks to the lady who served us in the restaurant Cyrielle, who was lovely to us and was amazing at her job. breakfast is just out of this world, the buffet is massive, hot breakfast cooked to perfection and the porridge......well you can put baileys on it....i mean what more do you want? the room is spotless and the bed was the biggest thing i've ever slept in. thank you to Mary on check in and check out who was so nice, friendly and helpful during our stay. read more

I didn't stay the night but met my in-laws there for breakfast. It was really disappointing! 16 euro for 3 soggy mushrooms and some scrambled egg. I was excepting excellent quality for such a highly priced breakfast. But it was terrible. Will not be back there for breakfast. read more

I didn't stay in the hotel. This was however the first time I've eaten in the restaurant. I have to say I'm disappointed by the food. The pate was tasteless, the chicken supreme was dry & didn't come with a sauce the veg were aldente the garlic potatoes were very oily. Literally sunk 2 feet into the bed. Back pain the next day. The food at the pub was greasy and disgusting. While showering parts of the tub began to come apart, to reveal that the tiles and other metal fixtures were being held together by used chewing gum. Avoid this at all costs. read more
