As a long time consumer of organic products and staunch supporter of mom and pop businesses, Grass Roots gets two stars for being a mom and pop. The minus three stars is due to: 1) ABSURDLY high prices (much higher than Wholefoods "because it's remote" so I was told) 2) tiny and cramped with a very biased selection 3) in an invconvenient location a few miles out of town 4) spreading propaganda about certain products based on personal preference and higher profit margin on lower quality or less beneficial products In short, a greedy, self-serving mom and pop that does not care about its customers. Know what you want and why or possibly be subjected to misinformation, and call before you go because what you want may need to be ordered. They also sometimes close early (typical in Eagle River). Another case of professionalism and decent customer care tossed under the bus. You'll find better prices and selection, more help and less bias at Golden Harvest in Rhinelander. The money spent for gas is easily recovered in price differences between the two stores. Grassroots has at least established the need for an organic grocer and product provider in the Eagle River area, however it needs a bit of competition for better grounding in reality. read more

Came across this review of Grass Roots. I have been in the store many times and found the owners most helpful. Nope it isn't Whole Foods (been there in the big city once) BUT, yes here in the North of Wisconsin shipping IS more and Competition? Heck, Grass Roots has to compete with two large food stores with health and organic sections (Roots has lower prices), a summer farmers market, several drug stores, and large buying clubs in the area. I think they do a great job for working 7 days a week.. I know they are closed on Holidays. They look things up for you and try to provide you with enough information to make up your own mind, You never feel pressured. They sent me home to think about some supplements BEFORE I bought them. I have to agree with the post by G.K. Grassroots in Eagle River, Wisconsin is a true treasure. They are the most helpful, kind, and caring individuals I know. They stock and carefully select the best products for the dollar and health value. They refuse to sell inferior quality products just because it may be the "trend of the month". They research their product base and because they do, I have confidence in the products I buy from them. I highly recommend Grassroots to everybody.Plus you get the added benefit of meeting and conversing with one of the true geniuses in the Northwoods. read more

I have to comment on the Individual named RW from Eagle River. The reason for my comments is he has obviously no idea about Health food or how to present himself for that matter! The stereotype of a Mom and Pop store I would carry that distinction proudly first off "Big Box" healthcare stores or "Walmarts" will sell anything to make a buck and do no research to see if the product they are selling is even safe for you! I am not from Eagle River I am from the northern suburbs of Chicago an can honstly say the direction and recommondations he offers are second to none. I have seen myself transform from being extremely unhealthy to transforming my life to become fit and healthy. I have a team of doctors from Northwestern Hospital that trying to prevent me from taking statins and go the natural way due to side-effects and so forth. I had contacted Grass Roots and his wealth of knowledge have made me healthier but has given me information that no pharmacist or "Whole Foods" customer service person could ever answer. They only seem to know what Dr. Oz is saying and nothing more. I had went to a local vitamin shop in Northern IL and nearly destroyed my liver. I was told to take 5,000 mg but there was no directions on the bottles I had asked a clerk when I should take if I should break it up and asked if this particular brand was good which turned out was loaded with fillers and useless additional things my body didn't need. And the mistake which could have ruined me was I was on another drug that countered it causing serious consequences to my body and nearly put me in a Early Grave. Grass Roots don't practice medicine but give you the best products and do the research to back the products he sells I know of no one especially in IL that do that since knowing Grass Roots my Cholesteral had dropped 80 pts and feeling stronger everyday without drugs. So the nut RW if you want overseas crap which you can buy one get one at Walgreens knock your socks off but if you had any class you would treasure a place that put the customer first! You are free to express your opinion but when you have no basis for your opinion then why say anything at all!
