Grassroots Natural Market in Jacksonville might be the most gloriously hippie health-food store I've ever set foot in. You can smell it before you're even through the door. Not in a bad way, but in that unmistakable health-food-store aroma that tells you there are herbs, oils, supplements, organic everything, and probably someone blending wheatgrass in the back with spiritual conviction. I walked in thinking I'd grab a couple of health bars or maybe a smoothie, and suddenly I found myself in what felt like a live-action documentary about modern hippie culture. Real hippies. I'm talking long dreads, natural fabrics, calm serene smiles, and an energy that says they own a crystal collection and know each crystal by name. The vibe inside was amazing. Everyone looked like they were on their own personal wellness quest, floating around the aisles with purpose, shopping carts full of things I didn't even know existed. I felt like I needed to level up spiritually just to stand near the kombucha section. And the café area had this cozy, earthy coolness to it that almost convinced me to sit down and contemplate the meaning of life over a smoothie bowl. The whole experience was wild in the best possible way. Grassroots Natural Market wasn't just a store that day. It was a full-on immersion into the hippie heart of Jacksonville, and honestly, it was fabulous. read more

Why did I wait so long to go to Grassroots for the first time? What a great natural market! This small business is packed with so many great brands. To be able to order a fresh smoothie or juice then walk around and shop is such a nice perk. I thoroughly enjoyed my Hyppo pops on the way home in the car too. The dragons blood smoothie caught my eye on instagram. I saw grassroots post about it, and immediately decided I too was going to grab a dragons blood smoothie in my near future as well. I think this is the prettiest colored smoothie I've ever ordered. I love that it wasn't packed with a bunch of sugar, yet the smoothie was also extremely creamy. Will be back to try more! The lemons I purchased here which aren't in any photos; are the best lemons I've purchased from any small grocery store within the last year. They had so much juice in every one. If you are currently buying lemons/limes from big grocery stores and noticed it may take 3 to 4 juiced lemons to equal what used to be the average 1 lemon, you aren't the only one. Switch things up and try to buy your fruits and veggies from a small grocery or market like this one. read more

This is a fun and funky place and deceiving large inside compared to what it looks like outside. Originally I thought it was some kind of hippy dippy green juice place lol and it partially is as they do have a juice bar but it's a full functioning little grocery store. They have beer, wine, produce, tons of vitamins and health supplements, baking and cooking stuff for all alergen needs, packaged foods as well as frozen stuff. They have a huge selection of vegan anything you could think of. Some of the prices are hit high but it looked like super high quality stuff. read more

I'm not sure if this is a juice bar that sells supplements or a wonderful supplement place that sells juices but it's just amazing. The sweet green drink is so tasty and you could really drink a gallon of this stuff. There is a small section of fruits and vegetables and a small refrigerator and freezer sections. read more

Such a surprising little place , I went there today searching for raw milk. I've read so many articles stating how much healthier it is for the body. So since it was a short ride to this lovely spot; I took the drive. Talk about variety, they even have a smoothie and juice bar built right into the store . The amount of organic grass fed meats was impressive for such a small place. I even saw a nice variety of cheeses , so I grabbed a goat milk cheddar along with my raw milk 1/2 gallon . read more

Originally came for the Yelp Elite event. Once I found out that they had vegan items and skin and scalp sensitive people, I decided to shop around a bit since I have a ton of health problems and sensitivities. Staff were amazing at explaining things and showing what they had. I got a few gluten free items as well as dairy free. I was happy to be informed they also accept EBT which is great for me. They had a ton of options for yogurt and ice cream and pizza. Everything I used to eat before I developed sensitivities to it all. I'm definitely going to be coming back here after the 23rd so I can try some different things and see what my stomach can handle. Grassroots is a great market that is focused on health and wellness. The line of products they carry are all very good quality and value. As a bonus to their store, they craft delicious smoothies and juices. I really enjoy stopping in for specialty products and grabbing a smoothie to go. It is nice to have small markets like this in the community because it makes it easier to access quality foods, beverages and supplements without having to drive all the way to Whole Foods or other stores that are similar. My husband has a severe sunflower seed allergy and asked the staff member if the protein powder used in smoothies has sunflower seeds. The staff member said NO - so my husband ordered the added protein powder, only to have an allergic reaction after drinking the smoothie. He went and asked the worker again, who then checked the protein powder (not sure why he didn't do this when he was asked the first time!) and sure enough, it contains sunflower seeds! The negligence is quite shocking - people can die or have severe illness when exposed to allergens. We rushed to the grocery store and were able to get some Benadryl fast enough to reduce the allergic reaction, though my husband got the usual respiratory and gastrointestinal issues. This was one of my only free days, and we are spending it at the hotel, as my husband now just has to sleep this off. But it could have been a lot worse - I hope the worker has learned from this mistake and won't let it happen again. It could cost someone's life. read more

Five stars alone for (1) dynamite smoothies and juices at very reasonable prices, and (2) an outstanding beer selection. I'm sure Grassroots has a ton of other great stuff which make it a standout natural market, but I'm here at least once a week for one or both of the above. I'm especially partial to the Sweet Greens smoothie - pro tip is to order at the register first, browse the beer while it's being made, and then checkout all together. The beer is extremely well-sourced and -curated, and changes seasonally -- heavy on the sours in the summer, and now moving more toward the darker beers as we head into fall/winter. You may think this is an unusual combo, but don't knock it til you try it. Grassroots is the best. read more

Too expensive, great unusual selection. But they clearly make all their money off supplements and do not devote enough space to FOOD. With some affordable options for regular often poor people in the neighborhood. Be good citizens and have more veggies, many affordable, and always a white and a red for under 12 dollars each. Staff is fantastic but seems underpaid; create a tipping system for them even if only at holiday item. read more

Grassroots is much more than your mom's health food store. It possesses the quintessential aura, finding the balance between grocery market and health food store, catapulting in a dependable shopping experience. The two departments that keep me coming back and telling all my peeps? 1. The Juice & Smoothie Bar - Everything, I mean everything is exquisite. I've strolled in here many a times to cure the unwavering heat wave. Their local and fresh ingredients result in liquid gold every time. Plus, their selection of ginger, lemon and wheatgrass shots are divine. 2. The Beer Selection - I'm a beer geek at heart, it's just who I am. My eyes light up like a kid in a candy store when I gaze upon the rows of six packs, singles and bombers from microbreweries all around the world. In my opinion, the only downsides are the high prices and the hit or miss hospitality from the employees. With other grocers becoming more and more affordable, it's difficult to not keep that in mind when shopping here. Items add up real quickly. Usain Bolt quick. However, I understand there's a price to be paid for shopping local. I can't imagine 5 Points without Grassroots. Grassroots is a cool place. For a small place it has lots of natural food and organic options. There are lots of locally sourced food options as well. It's worth a visit just for the juice bar alone. Tons of options and it generally has a quick turnaround when you order. I tried to see if they'd add chocolate NadaMoo ice cream as one of their staples because...HELLO, CHOCOLATE...to no avail. So if I wanted chocolate ice cream (in a brand they already carried) I had to drive 35 ish minutes to Whole Foods in Mandarin. They have lots of tea options and a lot of dark chocolate, too. As you could guess it's a bit expensive but worth it if your looking for a speciality item. read more

Really cool little place! They have so much variety and the employees are really nice. I live in riverside and never knew about it until I did lol I only bought a few tiny things when I went for the first time because I couldn't carry much but the little mango ginger chews I bought were amazing! I love Grass Root's product line but I am very unhappy about their unwillingness to take even the most meager steps to protect others in their store from COVID. The shelves are too close together, there are no directional lines, social distancing or masks required. There's not even an attempt to enforce 6 foot rules at the checkout line. There are flimsy plastic barriers at the checkout line that provide no protection even to their workers. For a place that's in business of selling natural and health foods, their lack of even minimal compliance with disease prevention guidelines is truly the height of hypocrisy. Their special store hours don't do a thing to make this place safe. The Duval County health department should pay a visit to Grass Roots and do a compliance inspection. This is an otherwise wonderful store that apparently doesn't believe that society's rules apply to them. I am going to continue to come to this store and update my review if I see any improvement. If you don't care about transmission, shop away. If you do or are elderly or vulnerable, another store might be a better idea until Grass Roots figures out how to make their store safer. read more

They have a ton of options & if you want to create your own, they are very accommodating and helpful. Delicious. As for the rest of the store, you can find some of the best health food & wellness options for the body as well as home. Their produce area is great for some of the harder to find items such as fresh turmeric root and I just love all of the fresh grab & go deli items for those times when you want a quick, healthy lunch. Their other location is in Fleming Island & I love that one, too. It's so convenient for those times when I go visit my parents. Great spot for smoothies, juice or vegan food groceries. I mostly stop in for smoothies, but their selection of food, especially gluten free and dairy free are very strong. My favorites include the Chocolate-Nana and anything they have with dates in it. I also like the Tropic Mint juice which I find delightful.
