This time however, I checked their rules on their website and made the trip. Nothing too major, I couldn't shoot the gun I needed to sight in because it was too large a caliber. nothing indicated as much online, but that was fine, I had other guns I needed to shoot, and I could take that one elsewhere. With the place almost entirely to myself, I head down to their 100yd range and get a couple practice shots in to get comfortable. Happy I decide to practice some at range quick firing. Nothing crazy, just trying to shoot accurately from range while being a tad fast. I shot off at most 10 rounds in 15-20 seconds, before I had one of the staff shouting at me to, stop being stupid, go into the shop, get my money and leave." confused, I asked for some minor clarification, as I hadn't broken any rules to my knowledge and there wasn't anyone else there for me to bother. He responded by telling me, "You know what you are doing," before hopping in his mule and driving away. the staff in the office weren't any better. telling me that I was "Mag dumping". which I could almost see, as I was firing a tad fast, and that was against their rules. however they couldn't give me a clear answer how what I was doing constituted a rule break and just kept giving me arbitrary lengths of time to trigger pulls while pointing to their tome of rules while trying to throw me out. All in all, there staff are obsessed with "Da Rulez" and refuse to even work with people to help have a good range environment. For example, if the staffer had just told me I was shooting a tad fast for what they normally allow and to tone it down a little.Instead, they decided to be hardheaded and treat me as less than human, now losing future income.

The owner, I have sadly forgotten his name, graciously took it upon himself to correct the sights in my bow and even increase the draw strength for me. He did not charge me a dime. The shooting facilities are well maintained and the store itself is both inviting and fascinating with the sheer amount of firearms and archery equipment that can be found. My only gripe is that there is no shotgun range, but at the end of the day, if you are into shooting sports, then this is the place for you.

Tate gives advice and 'homework' that I can take back to practice at the indoor range and dry firing at home. Thanks to Big Boar I am now 100% confident in shooting with iron sights and in reactive and tactical shooting. It's a bit of a drive to get to to Big Boar but 1000% worth it. I've been shooting for 40+ years and in the last 3 months I have improved exponentially. The joy of shooting has come back to me. Before Big Boar, going to the range was kind of like a dreaded exercise session. Since taking my first session at Big Boar, shooting is fun again as well as a challenge and a self improvement, self esteem reward. I can't recommend Big Boar and Tate enough. Photos show targets from reactive shooting at 10yrds with no optics, 2 shots fired in 0.83 to 1.04 seconds. 3 months ago, I wouldn't even have had a clue or chance of doing this.

A surprise to me being from CA is that this a fudd range, more strict than what I was used to back home, they don't allow the "general public" to draw from the holster.(kinda ironic that they hold license to carry, but don't let you practice the "carry" part) You can't stand or shoot rifle any closer than 25yards. Very nice people again, but they will treat you like it's your first time shooting a gun (which is great if you just bought your first gun). I used to come multiple times a month and always brought a friend but have since started going to Webers since they allow you to Draw, Double tap, and have a "tactical range" where u can stand using your rifle.
