I've eaten a lot of different places fried Chicken, but this place has the best hands down

I ordered chicken from the deli and the girl was going to give me pieces from the case but not the pieces I ordered so I waited for the chicken to come out of the fryer approximately 20 minutes. When I home to eat it the chicken was very dry and hard if it was freshly cooked it was very disappointing- this has happened before . I think I will stay away from their chicken. I live in the neighborhood, I've lived here for fifteen years. I do not go there to fill up a grocery cart, it was already expensive with Mr. Gray, it's even more expensive with this new owner. I had a taste for fried chicken yesterday and Googled for best fried chicken near me. Gray Foods came up as some of the best, so I took a ride. This was my first time in the store, everything looked clean and orderly, employees were friendly. it was a good vibe. I grabbed a few other items, some mushrooms, soda pop, a cantaloupe and a 12 piece chicken dinner. This morning I looked at my bank statements and noticed the charge at Gray's seemed a little high. I still had the receipt in my sweater pocket and instantly saw the "discrepancy." My $1.49 cantalope was priced by the pound, something I've never seen anywhere else. Naturally at $1.49 I picked the largest one, I paid $8.27 for one cantalope. I guess I should have paid better attention, but I've never seen cantalope priced by the pound anywhere else, ever. No more visiting Gray's Foods for me because it's a little out of the way and the chicken wasn't that good. read more

I went to the store on highcrest on 1/3/25 I occasionally get deli at lunch time for years now, I've noticed the quality has Changed considerably! I had the roast beef I actually had to pay extra for the juice 1.39 On top of the lunch price for dry beef and 2 sides , that beef made me feel sick to my stomach! Must have been old or something! I've been going there for 25 years and that's the second time in a month I've had a bad experience! I'm done Now ! I also was told it has new owners. I see ! How Sad.. read more

So this place is like a staple for the surrounding housing areas; and there are specialty items I haven't found at other stores like Woodman's or Wal-Mart. It's a family owned business and I'd love to be able to support it more and shop there for all my needs, but unfortunately, the price point for a full week of groceries is much higher than competitors. I'll continue to use Gray's for those quick, last minute items and hard-to-find items though. I'm very glad this store is here for the horrible weather days, that's for sure! Aside from all this, it could use some love inside, as it feels like a 1960s convenience store--but if that means higher prices, then nah. Lol read more

The more I shop here, the more I like it. Friendly employees who know regulars by name, a good selection, and a very convenient location. It may not have the low prices and wide selection of other stores, but it has the charm and personability to offset that. It's unique and does what it does very well. read more

The owner, JEFF GRAY, and the Produce manager, CHRIS is so very rude, and very condescending! Do not work there, as there are many red flags at this store! Very unprofessional, and they DO NOT know how to talk to individuals that are applying for a job. Especially young adults. It was terrible. Please don't go there. They have anger management problems. I suggest that you go to a NICER and larger store. In the interview, one of the managers said that THEY WILL NOT BABYSIT ME or ANYONE ELSE! WHAT A JERK! I THOUGHT TO MYSELF WHAT ???? THEY ACTUALLY HIRED ME TO START RIGHT AWAY. NO THANK YOU !!! They need to take a class on how to talk to individuals, as they are not skilled with speaking to others, and they thought they were going to intimidate me, which I laughed when I walked out of there, and thought..... omg this place is full of SARCASTIC bosses who have a CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDERS! Some of the best fried chicken in town, easily the best of all of the Supermarkets. Plus its a local business which is a huge bonus considering Schnucks owns everything except for Valli and these guys now. They also have great donuts. read more

I don't go to this store as a habit and here's why: I bought some sparkling water there and got home and opened it and it was flat. Checking the code date I found out it was 4 months past code date. The same thing happened with a loaf of bread. Should I have to check all code dates on everything I buy there? That's Grays job, not mine. Very disappointed! read more

I love this store. It feels like I've gone back in time whenever I'm in here. Everyone who works here is polite. Plus it's close to home.

Gray's is a step back in time for me. I used to shop there for my mom in the 1970's. Their donuts are to die for and you better get there early because when they are gone, they're gone. A hidden gem of a store. read more

Hi. Not related or whatever but I went to school and church with the owner. Older than me so not real familiar. But Greys is very close and its an old hometown place from way back. Mom used to come here years ago. Nice people. Yummy deli stuff! Carrot cake and cobblers are the bomb and their sunshine salad! Watch sales because they always have some good buys on stuff you need. read more

After living close to this store for over five years we finally discovered it. I simply never drive near it so never saw it lol. I have ecstatic to have found this place. I love to grocery shop and this place has the right feel that I prefer in a store. I personally do not care for large stores and with some exceptions places like W-Mart only have great prices on junk food. I buy almost exclusively staple foods. Milk, produce and meat make up 95% of our purchases. This place is going to be a regular stop for us now. I am SO EXCITED! read more

I go to this store as often as i can. The beef is so good, everyone loves my grilled burgers! The deli has the best chicken salad in town (and 7 layer salad, baked beans...more) they are famous for donuts and fried chicken and seem to have Pepsi 2-litres on sale for 99 cents alot. The checkout is always a breeze, even if they are busy, they all help each other out. Now Meijer stores are killing Schnuck's but they will not replace Gray's!!!
