I recently had the pleasure of revisiting my favorite bakery of all time. BCB is truly the most incredible bakery I have ever experienced. It constantly impresses with its delectable baked goods and outstanding service. The outside of the building is quite unassuming, but once you step inside you're in for a real treat. BCB always has a great selection of sweet and savory items. They typically have meat pies and a variety of different croissants, danishes, and original creations. Today, we had the wild blueberry danish, almond croissant, and sausage roll. The danish and croissant were perfectly sweet, buttery, and flakey. These pastries, as well as the Susie which was unfortunately unavailable today, are easily some of our favorite items to get at BCB. The sausage roll was a nice savory breakfast option and definitely one of the best I've ever had. If you're looking for a sign to stop by BCB, this is it. Hands down, best croissants! My favorite are the pistachio croissant, and something they call the Suzie? It a croissant with almonds and chocolate and powdered sugar and the filling is everything. I think it's almond paste. And I always get a sausage roll to share, the sausage is seasoned perfectly and the crisp flaky crust goes along with it very well. Cronuts (croissant donuts) are another favorite and a big hit with all the kids in my family. The fruit and cheese danishes, morning buns, bread pudding, biscuits and gravy, and lasagna are all top tier. I absolutely recommend Banana Cherry Bakery! read more

WOW! These are hands down some of the best pastries I've ever had. You can tell these delicious goodies are made with so much love and passion. My favorite is the berry cheese danish (not pictured) which I believe is seasonal. Today I ordered the pecan bread pudding, biscuits and gravy and a brioche pastry. I cannot say one bad thing about any of the items I've had here. Whatever they're doing in the kitchen is working! The staff is also very kind and patient. I'm so indecisive when I walk into this place and not once have I felt rushed. I will continue to support this small family owned business, you should too. Please read my other review as I can restate everything in it enthusiastically; I am adding another thought after visiting again as I have thought of the perfect way to describe their danishes. When you bite into them, you can literally (and I do actually mean literally, not figuratively) feel the endorphins being released. Like they make me giddy to eat them, they are that good. The crust is flaky and buttery, the filling sweet and tart. Seriously, get yourself here and try a cheese or fruit (or cheese and fruit!) danish. AMAZING! My husband and I were driving through Rockford to get to Madison and stopped by for a quick bite. I didn't catch the owners' names, but they were all so kind. We had a meat pie and a lemon blueberry scone. Hands -down, some of the best I've had! I couldn't recommend this place enough. They were out of a stock for a milk substitute at the time, but one of the owners later showed up at our table with a chai drink that was so good! Wow! I've had this place bookmarked for a while & now I am asking myself why I did not decide to check it out sooner! This is a family owned bakery where they make everything fresh daily. Their cronuts are a must here. I've stopped by in the morning to grab some for clients & they're always a big hit. Light & flaky & very fun to eat. They also sell the bites of the cronuts (they're just not shaped as a donut) for 99 cents. They're just as good & decently sized to be called bites. I've not tried their meat pies yet, but can smell it as I walk in & they have a decent variety for everyone, plus they're huge! Definitely shareable between 2 to 3 people. I tried this bakery on Saturday morning for the first time. There was actually a line of people waiting, but I was the 2nd car there, so third in line when I got in. They do hot foods and sandwiches, coffees, etc. But the main focus is pastries. I tried a bunch, from their meat pies, croissants, danish and cinnamon rolls! Talk about finding some of the greatest places where you might not expect it. Banana Cherry is one of those places! We were headed to Rockford for a hockey tournament. Not having been to Rockford before required some Yelpsearch. Banana Cherry while not having a lot of reviews, the reviews were outstanding! We had to check this place out. After checking out their reviews and pictures, I knew what we wanted to order. I've been wanting to try a cronut for years. Their meat pies and sausage roll also looked great. So we ordered one of each of those. For good measure we added an almond croissant. Outstanding! The cronut was everything I had heard and hoped. Flaky and buttery on the outside like a croissant, then melt in your mouth soft on the inside of a perfect dougnut. I should of ordered a dozen. Check that, bakers dozen. The sausage roll, c'mon I love sausage. This was perfect. A big flavorful sausage wrapped in a savory flaky crust. What's not to love! As others have wrote, one could be concerned that this could be greasy. Well it's not. Part of me thinks I would have liked some mustard, then again eating it didn't take long so why waste the mustard. My wife picked out the almond croissant which she said was amazing. I'll take her word for it as I was busy eating the other items. The best item in my opinion was the meat pie. Without a doubt the absolute best meat pie I have ever had. First of all its huge so cooking this to perfection takes an experienced chef. The flaky exterior leads to a savory and flavorful interior. What really made this was how tender beef was inside. This was perfect. I immediately wanted more. Service was as warm and friendly as you'll ever experience. Who would have thought such a great place here in Rockford. I need to go back to this Bakery! I had the BEST peach and berry muffin! Giant chucks of fruit in the muffin and it was so fresh! I also got the ranger cookie which was also good. Don't be scared away by the building when you drive up to this amazing bakery. They've put all their effort into an amazing product. We went to Rockford for Costco trip and was craving a cinnamon roll and so we opened the Yelp. The name Banana Cherry Bakery was a corny turn off because who would eat that together...but the ratings drew us in. We drove up, walked in and thought again it can't be good, they haven't put anything into the ambiance or decor. It was immediately apparent this is truly a mom and pop bakery where the baker has been told "you've got to open a place" and the whole family seems to work there. Son got a delicious pecan chocolate chip cookie that was crispy, chewy and flavorful in one bite!! We got an assortment of flavors of croissants-the Sallie, pecan/chocolate, walnut cinnamon rolls, almond/chocolate and the outstanding ham and Swiss savory croissant!! OMG folks - everything was outstanding! Crispy flaky edges with rich buttery textures and the fillings were perfectly balanced between sweet and fluffy. There wasn't anything we had that wasn't outstanding in every way. It's immediately a destination for our future visits to Rockford! My 13 year old was willing to make a 45 min drive on the chance that we could get cronuts (croissant donuts) and any other tasty treats they had. If only Rockford had more places like this. Unassuming in a strip mall is an oasis of baking and customer service love. We tried the carrot cake and double chocolate mentioned in other reviews and slobbered over them so much we asked the owner to do our wedding cake! They don't actually do wedding cakes, but we compromised on a big 3-layer cake atop a cupcake stand filled with Texas-sized cupcakes. Blew our (and our guests) socks off. It's one of those things where you take a bite and you just have to stop and focus on the experience it's so darn good. And super personable: we've chatted with the owner and her family members on multiple visits and to a fault they loved what they were doing and creating and giving to the community. For example, one time I dropped in they had run out of, I don't exactly recall, chai spice for a drink I ordered and they gave me another froufrou coffee drink free of charge. No grumbling, just taking care of their guest. And the wedding-ish cake and cupcakes they made, they did so on a holiday! Man, I so appreciate these people and their baking skills. read more
