We visited on a beautiful fall afternoon. The large indoor mill space was very attractive, and as it was nearly empty, we could have had our choice of seats. Since it was a gorgeous day, however, we opted for outside seating. We enjoyed the picnic tables and Adirondack chairs overlooking the river, and appreciated that there were umbrellas to provide shade. The indoor bar has more draft options than the outdoor, but both of the beers we wanted were available outside. Food is also available both inside and outside. We didn't order food ourselves, but the flatbreads we saw at neighboring tables looks amazing, and the prices were good as well. Definitely would return if we are in the area again read more

This place is in a great building, has plenty of parking, and has a few excellent brews. The flatbread pizza was good too. That's why I gave it three stars despite the bad experience. I'd love to recommend it, but unfortunately, I can not. In fact, it might count as a PSA to warn other people about it. Let me preface by saying I don't blame badly behaved children when I see them in public; I blame their parents. However, the staff here is also to blame. They need to start, or at least learn how to inform parents that they remain responsible for their children's behavior and actions while they are visiting the brewery. I've never had an issue with children at breweries either. I have been going to breweries throughout New England for over 20 years and enjoy spending time with friends who have children at most of them. I have never experienced one like this. It was basically an unlicensed daycare center for parents who like to drink. Most people I know don't want to be surrounded by screaming toddlers, babies, and middle schoolers who are unsupervised and unchecked. There is no place here that is a safe space for adults, not even the restrooms. Think "Lord of the Flies" with beer and pizza, my friend even got hit with a spitball, and I haven't seen one of those since high school! I still have a headache, and I was there a week ago. I may go back, but I am not brave enough yet, and it will be on a weekday during school hours. read more

We heard about Great Awakening on Instagram, so we decided to go there for Father's Day. It is a in an old mill, so the floor plan is wide open and has that rustic industrial vibe which I think is very cool! The first beer I had was the Spoon Bender Imperial Stout which is excellent! It advertises the flavors of cocoa, vanilla and coffee and it definitely delivers! My wife and I had the charcuterie and the pretzels with honey mustard and beer cheese. They were both very good! We also had the deconstructed skewer flatbread and the pepperoni flatbread which were both very satisfying. We ate them all! We ended with the peach cheesecake with Mike's hot honey drizzle. It was a little sweet, but the bitterness from the Axis American Dark Ale was a nice counterbalance. The service was very friendly and accommodating. We definitely plan on returning. read more

Nice industrial space brewery not too far of the Mass pike. It's huge inside and even has indoor cornhole. It's clean and it feels like the atmosphere matches what they're trying to accomplish. It was pretty empty on the Wednesday night that I went so I can't really comment on service. The beer was good, probably one click below the big boys in Mass (trillium, tree house, etc). They had a nice variety of styles too! I had a barrel aged stout, a pastry stout and a dipa and they were all quite palatable. The biggest surprise was how tasty the food was. Menu was really small which might turn some folks off but that usually means freshness to me; and it certainly was!! Only negative is that it's a long way from the kitchen to the table so the tacos were a little cool by the time they got to me. Flavor was outstanding! I'd be excited to try other things off the food menu the next time I visit. read more

The Great Awakening is one of the most laid back places to get together in Westfield. It's located in an old Mill building so there are other activities you can do before or after visiting. The staff is always super friendly and always has great suggestions about what they have on draft and what they have cooking out back. I love that they always have at least a couple different sours when I'm there, however, the food is the real hidden gem here. It's hard to choose between the Buffalo Chicken Dip or the Carolina Gold BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos. Honestly the tacos might be my favorite - but the Buffalo Chicken Dip is more of a staple on their menu so you're able to get it more consistently. read more

This brewery is the King of breweries in southern New England. The food is excellent, they have some great choices for food snobs and some old standbys such as pretzels and Buffalo chicken dip. The flavors are interesting and the food is always fresh. The ambiance is great, it's in a mill and is a working brewery with everything in plain view. 30 + taps with the best and freshest beer you will experience anywhere. The IPAs are incredible 5/5 - a few favorites are Heavy PreCitratation and Sky Guy. They do it all from single hop to Triples, you can't go wrong with any IPA they offer. The sours, oh the sours....lol. I didn't like sours all that much until I sampled the black currant and double (imperial black currant) sours....wow! Faves here include Sickle (mimosa beer and it comes in cans to go) and Funny Hat which is a mainstay at our Thanksgiving table. The stouts, some are over 12% damn! Try King Size for a twist on the Reese's peanut butter cup. They have recently started working on an outdoor experience which may be the only deficiency here. The location makes an outdoor beer garden difficult, and I don't really care about being inside vs outside, but some may. I'm sure they'll figure it out, but even if they didn't have the outdoor area this place would still be the Mecca for beer in Western Massachusetts. read more

The sour beer lineup for sour haters is here! Yes yes, the brewery has an extensive list of good IPA's and other beer, but the blackberry vanilla current sour and orange creamsicle sour are tasty as heck, and you will be looking in the cooler for a 4-pack to take home. As a primarily IPA fan, it seems like there must be some trickery into the goodness, but it is just good taste. The building is an old factory building, and this space used to be a sort-of kid playscape place. The renovation into the brewery gives a lot of space to sit at the bar, at tables with family, or stand in another space near the cornhole game. They have musicians all of the time who play *mystery of the day* music. Great stuff. My only takeaway is that the menu has changed since the opening (We miss Josh!), and my fave french onion soup without beef stock is no longer. The menu changes, and is mostly ok, but sometimes there are duds. The flavorless hummus was a solid thumbs down, and vegetarian choices are sometimes limited to pretzels or flatbread pizza. A decent selection of beers, nothing caught my attention on this visit except for an IPA that they've had for a while. Food menu looks interesting, but haven't tried anything off it yet. I never think to eat here, so I'm usually just stopping in for a beer or two. The staff is underwhelming without much interaction. Not sure if they offer table service like they used to (call button on the table), but it was walk up only the night we went. Seemed a little excessive to have 5 people working for a walk up bar. They were more interested chatting with each other in a circle and using their phones than they did assisting guests. Glasses sat empty for longer than expected, so we just got one and asked for the check. I'll try again next time I'm visiting. read more

Really cool taproom. Unfortunately, they were booked up for space the day we were in town, but the lady at the door was a super friendly and helped us get some take out. Wow! We've been to breweries all over the country and this hands down is one of the best. Service was a little slow at first not sure why, but once the beer arrived we forgot about all that. Fantastic hazy IPAs if that is your thing. The sours were great also, pretty much every beer we tried was top-notch. Beer was very good! I am a fan of sours and they have a few options! The one I had was cherry...something or other-very tasty! Also very impressed with their imperial stout. Food was equally tasty! My only complaint is .... no flights!? How can you try beers at a new brewery with out the flight option!? Waitress was kind and offered "tasters" which were no charge, but I can't very well get 6 of those! Consider adding flights...you'll make your money back in a heartbeat! One of the best breweries in Western Mass! You can tell that the brewers take pride in their beer as each one is very drinkable and there are options for every beer drinker (IPA, DIPA, Stout, Porter, Sour etc.). Wonderful atmosphere and plenty of space to social distance. The wait-staff and management were friendly, engaging, very professional, and clearly knew their beer and food menu when giving recommendations. There is an online reservation system that is very user friendly. I would recommend the Ahi Tuna, Wrap, and Charcuterie board (love the mini corns!) Many of the beers are available to take home. The venue has a great vibe and the beer is very good. The food is limited and bland. We weren't impressed with the service. I ordered a stout which was supposed to be 14 ounces according to the menu. The glass looked smaller than that. I asked our server about it and she responded that she was somewhat new and didn't create the menu. I asked her to check on it. She didn't. We decided to split a gelato for desert. It arrived with one spoon for the two of us. The server said she'd be right back with a second spoon, but never showed up with it. Unfortunately they only have a certain amount of beers that you can take to go, but you can get a flight to try any 4 you want. Not sure why you can't take any beer home.
