An absolutely beautiful venue. All of the wine and sangria I have tried from this winery has been absolutely delicious. The cranberry apple may have been my favorite. Staff here has always been nice. When they host craft fairs it's pretty cool too, lots of different vendors often. ******** BE MINDFUL WHEN PLANNING A WEDDING HERE. My brother was married here back in Sept 2025. It was beautiful, gorgeous scenery, the food was delicious. However, it is still open to the public apparently when a wedding is held. The worst part (which I think is absolutely insane) is that there was a FOOD TRUCK parked right next to what is supposed to be the aisle for the wedding procession. The staff at Hardwick told us that under no circumstance was the truck moving as they were going to stay open to public. I came here yesterday for the first time and enjoyed it. I love the fact they have live music on weekends as that is always welcome. The wine is different from what I'm used to in CA and VA as they use a lot of local fruit and mix it with the grapes. As someone who prefers dry wine, it's really not for me. The Sangria here was pretty solid. The Berry and Winter Sangria were good but the star of the show was the Mulled wine, which is served hot. It was delicious! The atmosphere here is rustic. Again, I'm used to a different experience in CA and VA with more space and high ceilings. This place feels congested to me because of that. The biggest downfall is the location. It's in the middle of nowhere. Make sure you have plenty of gas if you come here as I didn't see any gas stations within about 15-20 miles and the roads are windy. It took about an hour to get here from Shrewsbury, 35 miles away. I'd return but I have other wineries closer to me that serve more of the wines I'm interested in like Cab's and such. read more

Exploring New England and found this winery by doing a search on vineyards along our route. If we came the following day, we would have done wine tasting. They were only serving wine flights of 4 for $20 (due to covid-19). Upon arrival, we were greeted by John, the owner, who was friendly and welcoming. It was a rainy and cold day and there was nothing to keep you warm as they had the windows and doors open. As for the wines, they have dry, semi-sweet, and sweet. I'm not a big wine drinker and stick to what's sweet. My friend had 8 flights and chose more dry ones. The sweet ones weren't too sweet but a satisfactory amount of sweetness. The dry ones I was able to try were more tarty than bitter. My favorites were Prescott Pear and Yankee Girl Blush. The 'Chocolate Raspberry' was interesting since it's not actually a chocolate wine/liqueur. Makes me wonder how they make their wines. They sell a cheese and meat plate ($8) and have a food truck available. Tables are available inside and outside. read more

I stumbled across the Hardwick Winery annual maple event and thought it'd be fun. It was a fun event though there was some room for small improvements. Staff was very friendly but the event was extremely understaffed, especially considering that this was a multiple seating event and there was a private party downstairs. So wait time for tables to be cleared or to simply check in for breakfast or ask a question was 15 minutes. The breakfast was buffet style and everything was tasty and fresh. It was nice to see fruit offered but unfortunately it was a canned fruit cocktail. Changing small details in the future could have made a big difference. A wine tasting included 5 wines and is $8, allowing you to keep the souvenir logo stem. We enjoyed the tasting and our server was quite friendly. I purchased a bottle of pear wine and my friend a bottle of blueberry. A one man band filed in to start playing at 2pm and he was very good. The farm is beautiful and peaceful and makes you feel like staying and relaxing. I'll definitely be back to visit again. read more

Love this place - if you want a fun environment to hang out with friends and taste your way through many different wines (including WINE SLUSHIES, yup!), this is your place! A word of warning - these wines are pretty much all on the sweet / fruity side, so if that's not your jam, this may not be your spot. This isn't really the place you come to for fancy, snooty wines... it's where you come to enjoy a leisurely day with friends and see how many different sangrias, fruit infusions, and wine slushies you can sample your way through (yesssss, I'll say it again - WINE SLUSHIES!!!). We came on a fall afternoon, and the place was pretty packed - but we were able to find a big table with ease. The flights were what most of us went with - there is really just so much to sample that the flights were the best bet. They offer little snack plates as well, which were nothing crazy, but did the trick. Oh, and not sure if this is the norm, but they gave us free bottled water! The only two 'meh' things that we didn't really enjoy were the asparagus wine (fun concept, but some things are not meant to be in wine, I suppose...) and the hard cider (very watery and no real flavor). Stick to the wines (again, as long as you like sweet & fruity) and you'll be all set. Looking forward to returning here again in post-covid times! read more

I love visiting wineries and vineyards, especially in my native New England. I'm going to pass on this one. If I haven't visited your vineyard, I always purchase bottles of wine to at least support the small guys. Usually, I come out with a decent glass but when I bought a bottle of the Yankee Boy White I regret spending the $13.99. I poured my husband and I a glass and before I could get my nose six inches from the glass, I didn't need to guess the bouquet. I didn't even need to guess if I would even find any enjoyment from the glass. Immediately my nose and palate were assaulted by overwhelming artificial Granny Smith rolled in crushed up Sweet Tarts. Normally I like a nice tart apple when I first take the initial sip and let it fade away... clean and crisp are the key words. This shouldn't have even been allowed on an end cap. I'd prefer taking a Seagram's wine cooler before I'd finish a glass of this. I don't understand how a wine can be so artificially sweet and awful at the same time. I've pushed myself through some cheap, over poweringly tacky tasting wine but I refuse to put myself through that. I'm not even opening the red to see what disappointing twist they put on that as it's going in the basement with unopened junk to go in raffle baskets. Please don't purchase this wine. I'm sure the owners of the vineyard are decent folk but I can't support what they have done to the world of whites. I don't know how this place has gotten so many five star reviews. read more

What a fun outdoor space. During summer, you can get nearly any wine made as a slushy, which is a great idea. I can't say I loved all the wines (no thank you, asparagus) but that's what flights are for -- to try different things. Very nice day at the Hardwick winery. Only disappointment is that they are NOT enforcing a no mask no service policy by allowing people to walk around inside and outside without being required to mask up. Also, what's up with the tractor pull? If you are expecting a quiet Sunday listening to their live music, which is very nice, forget about it. The tractor pull was beyond noisy and definitely ruined the atmosphere. My wife and I are doing reviews of all the western Massachusetts wineries and of the two we have visited thus far, Black Birch Vineyard in North Hatfield has these guys beat. They are not as old, but they are doing tastings, even now, while enforcing a mask rule, and the atmosphere is much better. read more

my husband and i came here on a Sunday afternoon, after finding that Amherst Winery, our original destination, was mysteriously closed even though they should have been open. thank goodness Hardwick Winery was open and saved the day! my husband and i have tasted these wines before at the Big E, and it was nice to see the physical grounds, and to taste all the wines there. Hardwick specializes in fruit wines, but they're all still wine. we've been to wineries that do fruit wines, and they just taste like fruit juice. these are much more sophisticated, and not too sweet. the wines are a little more expensive than what we normally spend, but they are very good. definitely worth a visit. read more

Tastings at Hardwick are $5, and include a souvenir glass. Our group of five enjoyed six different wines in the upstairs loft area of the vineyard this weekend. It seemed as though most of their grapes are estate grown, which is impressive, given that Massachusetts isn't exactly known for its grape-friendly climate. (Though apparently there are quite a few vineyards in the Bay State.) I particularly enjoyed their white wines (they didn't have a tasting list to take home, so I don't recall specifics), and we bought a bottle of the Yankee Boy. Hardwick has a nice deck, as well as picnic tables, so although we didn't bring a lunch, it's certainly a nice option. read more

This was a very emotional day for me. We had stopped at a general store in Barre after visiting my father's headstone and, much like they do in small towns, the owner started chatting w/ us about why we were in the area and what we planned to see. Our plan had originally been to head back to the Northbridge area, but she changed our minds. She started telling us about one of their hidden gems: Hardwick Winery. We marked down her directions and said we'd stop by. We ended up having a conversation w/ another townie that came in and he actually had us follow him thru to the center of town and gave more detailed directions to follow from there. What can I say, were daredevils. His directions were: follow this road around for about 3 miles, its narrow so be careful. Stop when you see the big keg. Well, we indeed saw the big keg and stopped in. I would love to see this place in the spring, it was very open. We parked behind the building and headed inside. We were, as we usually are, the only people there. We said hello to the bar keep and she interested us in a tasting. This is the thing I friggin love about small towns. Their tasting was $5 for 5 wines and you got to keep the glass. We tried the Yankee girl & boy, the Mass. Cranberry, the Hardwick Red, and the Quabbin (Kwah-bihn) Native. Since it was the bitter end of fall, they also had mulled cider, which my husband has never had. So good. I ended up taking home a bottle of the Yankee Girl & the Mass. Cranberry. Beautiful venue. We came here for paint night or should I say paint day on a Saturday. There were 2 floors, one restroom in each floor. Its very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Its was far from everything but the nice foliage country like drive was awesome. The winery mainly serves alcohol. no food. $6 for wine tasting and stemless glass to keep. The wine bottle are fairly priced at $15 . I especially enjoy the dry red and dry white. No restaurant near by so eat before hand. read more

Had the opportunity to make a trip to this awesome pole build barn. We were honored to be served by John, (owner) and he was very knowledgeable about his wines. We were served generous samples of some what I found to be very tasty wines, great notes, good sparkle.....we were even treated with mulled wines, one of which was his Pumpkin wine. ...truly a blessing in a glass. After seeing the ratings and reviews I expected a better quality product. None of the wines were appealing. Many are fruit added (apricot, pears, blueberries, even pumpkin) as opposed to getting the notes from grapes themselves. The couple we went with got the large wine flight (very overpriced at $40). Several were undrinkable and ended up in the grass. We seated ourselves under a tent - tables and chairs were not cleaned, let alone sanitized for Covid; we had to grab sanitizing wipes from our car. After seeing the flight, I got a sangria. $8 bucks and Worst ever! In a plastic glass with shaved ice. On plus side, building is very nice, pleasant setting if you can get seated on the porch, and live music was good. read more

John & Donna, Due to the fact that no one has been communicating with me about having Hardwick as my wedding venue, it leads me to believe that you do not want my business. I know that you said that you do not wish to have weddings there anymore, but back in SEPTEMBER you gave me your word, a promise, that I could have my wedding there. I was told to check back in during January to get a contract together, and I did this several times. I was ignored or treated like I was a nuisance for asking for a contract. I finally asked face to face in March for one by the end of the week, to which John said was no problem and he could do that. A week passed, and I visited the winery with my friends. There was no acknowledgment of the wedding at all, and we endured rudeness and eye rolls. I wish that seven months ago you just said "no" instead of leading me on all the time. Also, your caterer served my fiancé and I leftover food from a wedding and charged us for this.I am very upset that this UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, and UNRESPONSEIVE behavior lead to a different venue as I had my heart set on Hardwick. It's a shame because you do have a beautiful location. I've never left a bad review for a business in my life, but this experience was awful. read more

Located near Quabbin Reservoir on a scenic road. The property and two-story farmhouse building are nice. The wine list is simple and includes 6 wines. The tasting of 6 wines is $6 and you keep the glass. I did not like how they use portion controllers to pour samples. The wines range from dry to sweet and all are about 12% abv. The prices are reasonable. A receipt from here gets you a free tasting at Amherst Farm Winery in Amherst, MA and vice versa. FYI, there was a sign inside that they are looking for growers. read more

My fiancé and I stopped in here while traveling to Yankee Candle. We got there for opening at 11am. the woman who helped us was Donna, she was absolutely wonderful. All the wines were amazing, there are now 7 wines they offer and you get to taste ALL for just 6$ and you go home with a stemless wine glass! Bottles are also reasonably priced as well. 15$ a bottle and 17$ for there blueberry. They also discount depending on how many bottles you buy. We went home with one of each bottle. Might wanna update the website. Granted there's an "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" vibe to this place. Server was EXTREMELY rude, hard-selling, pushy and rushing our group. Insulted me because I was "from the city"? Okay. I would never come back here or recommend it to anyone. These fruit wines aren't worth the premium they charge here over actual grape wine, especially for the baby sip they pour. Avoid like the plague. The Hardwick Winery received our party of ten for an impromptu stop during my daughter's bachelorette party last month. The rustic vibe of the place was so alluring with a live singer performing beautiful vocals on the deck, gorgeous flowers all around the grounds, and a super friendly staff. They went far above and beyond to accommodate us, providing use of the loft for a private wine tasting with cheese and crackers provided. The wines were delicious! Based on the beautiful location and yummy wine is the only reason it got 3 stars . The woman serving my friend and I was very snippy and rude To us. She actually went as far as to tell us we had a short attention spans and we were " all over the place ". We were only upstairs for probably about 5 to 10 minutes doing a very quick tasting, we did not stick around any longer because we didn't feel welcomed. My fiance and I had our HEARTS set on getting married here.... Unfortunately we never had a chance to book with them, however, I am so happy they were so completely incompetent that we never had that chance. Our wedding is next June and I wanted to get all my bookings done early. On jan. 30th I first emailed to ask questions about booking. Myself and April had a few emails back in forth about booking. I wasn't quite ready to book, so on March 4th I touched base that I was ready to come meet with them and book. April set up a meeting for March 11th. On March 10th April cancelled the meeting and said that she would get right back to me and reschedule it. On March 15th, since I haven't heard back yet, I emailed back to see if she figured out another time or day. On march 17th she responded that all of 2016 was booked. My wedding is 2017, so I responded back with that. Here I am on May 8th without a response back. The week after the last email I attended the Maple breakfast like I do every year. And that made me realize, how lucky I am that I never got the chance to book. They didn't provide any high chairs or boosters for my 2 year old. I stood and kept her busy while her father and my friends ate. When my fiance was done, I finally sat down to eat. 2 bites into my meal, I pulled a long hair out of my mouth. I was absolutely disgusted! So much so that my stomach turned and could not eat the meal we paid what, $30? I think for.... When I said something to them, all I was told was "oh, that sucks, things happen" then just walked away. I have worked as a server for 12 years and NEVER saw such an unprofessional response like that. All their prices seemed to have gone up and their quality went down. Thank you Hardwick, for being so incompetent, that I won't have to subject my wedding of over 100 people to hair in their food from an unprofessional place! It's sad too, because this was one of my favorite places (hence why my heart was set on it). I've shared my experience with bridal and wedding groups with 1000's of future brides in Mass looking for venues and vendors.
