We've been here a handful of times now and have enjoyed the experience every time! The atmosphere is really cool (beautiful barn/indoor space with plenty of seating) and the staff has been fantastic. Most recently we enjoyed their outdoor seating and live music offerings. They have a lot of outdoor space which is dog-friendly so long as they are on a leash. Beers: They have a good variety of brews available which is always nice! They seem to have staples that are available nearly year round and plenty of seasonal options. We enjoyed The Dude (stout), Big Red Barn (imperial red ale), House Export (lager helles), Snowy Silo (winter ale) and Lemon Shandy. We were not so crazy about their Saison's, but that's more a matter of personal preference. Food: Gotta love a brewery that also has a solid menu! We get the wings every time we visit. They are big, crispy and perfectly prepared (coming from a Buffalo native and a total wing snob). We particularly enjoyed the old bay and Cajun dry rubs! We also tried their paninis when we visited back in February and they were very good. Covid-19: Beer in the time of Corona! They recently reopened (mid June 2020) and had a large tent set up out back with social-distance-arranged picnic tables. They were actively cleaning tables as people were leaving them. They also have a large open seating area so folks brought in lawn chairs and set up their own spaces. Face masks were required while ordering beer/food and walking around but not while seated. They had an outdoor bar set up where they poured drinks and took food orders. They gave a number for food and would call out once it was ready. Food was packaged in to-go containers within bags that you could take back to your area to eat. Overall I think they are handling the re-opening very well while sticking to the states guidelines. read more

STAY AWAY! Save your money use it a better brewery. First off I will help you by saying the beer is probably the worst I have ever had from any brewery and I have been to many and I mean many over my life. Secondly, they can't handle any social media criticism. I recently left a review of a show saying it wasn't very good but praised the atmosphere even though the beer is awful. They took it down not only once but twice. A real establishment would say something like "Im sorry we didnt live up to your standards" but no, like cowards they deleted it because they didnt want other people to see it. Very unprofessional. The second craft beer boom continues to boom. Yesterday we visited the Westfield River Brewing Company, at the site of the former Chuck's Steak House on Route 10. Just look for the big red barn and their eye-catching beet red sign. Westfield outshines its peers in many ways. They had ten different beers on draft. They serve food instead of relying on food trucks. They have partnered with "The Skyline Hop Shop" -a chef owned establishment that has set up accommodations on site and serve a very nice variety of Brats, hot dogs, chili, grilled cheeses, sandwiches, salads (How does Buffalo Chicken Pasta Salad grab you?), and fresh baked pretzels as big as your phone book. We went with a simple butter and sea salt pretzel ($5.50) served with a container of hearty Brown Ale Honey Mustard. It was stellar, and it was made with some of the beer production by-products. Recycling can be delicious.... As were the beers! Ten beers are on draft. They are so popular, and this place is so successful, they can barely keep up with the demand to stock their in-house supply. That's what is preventing them from hitting the restaurants, they can't make the beer fast enough. The beers are listed on the blackboard, along with their ABV (alcohol by volume) and IBU (International Bittering Units) stats. We had a flight of four, and a glass of their lightest beer (Pop's Old Fashioned Lager), which we liked it a lot. My flight included a White Ale (this was my clear favorite), a Downtube Black Falcon (too hoppy for me), a Big Red Barn (yum, a great red ale), and a Snowy Silo (very good too - with cinnamon, raspberry and vanilla). Everyone we interacted with was great, our server, the food service folks, and an owner/manager who came over and shot the breeze with us. The interior is very laid back - brick and huge wood beams. There is a fireplace that saw a lot of people clustered near it because the huge volume of the building makes heating it a challenge. It was chilly inside. The vibe inside was wonderful - no pretension, no snobbery -just really nice folks enjoying each other's company by the fireplace, in a sweet place with sweet food and top notch beers. It's worth the Ride. My wife and I out for a ride on a Sunday afternoon looking for Lunch and a Beer we found a Gem in Southern central Mass now it's not an eye-catcher's, Big and Red and it's little industrial looking inside but that's the charm of our Lunch stop over, moving on our bartender- waitress were 1st rate I could have stayed there all day but being about 78 miles from home and enjoying a fabulous Octoberfest Brew would not have been a good idea next time we are going get a motel room. Our Lunch was worth the ride a loan I was not paying attention when my wife was ordering one Sandwich and some Wings lets start with the sandwich a turkey-tomato-swiss cheese-garlic mayo on rye I thought it was a cold sandwich it was presented lightly grilled the center perfectly blended together or Wings were very large and the flavor a Cajun dry rub after the first bite I was won over baked not Deep Fried wow what have I been missing. My daughter and son-in-law love this place and after my first visit,I can see why! It has a very rustic and old New England feel about it. You could almost picture Sam Adams stopping in for a pint! I'm not a beer connoisseur but I know what I like! On this occasion I tried their "Big Red Barn"and a stout called "The Dude". Both were excellent! I will definitely try a flight on my next visit! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and my meal was very good! The smoked brisket was moist and tender! My baked beans and mac and cheese were just right! I really liked that on a cold and windy Saturday we didn't have to wait outside at a food truck to bring something in! That can be fun other times of the year, "see you in July, Stoney Creek",but not so much in early March! Love the atmosphere here - old country barn feel. Fire place roaring on cold nights, live music often. Hubby and I discovered it shortly after they opened several years back when we were getting married just down the road and we make the 40 minute drive often ever since. My favorite beers are the snowy silo in the cool months and vitamin c in the summer. My husband loves the bad boy IPA. They didn't have it for a long while because it has special hops but they have it again and my hubby is in heaven. We loved it when they had their old food (bbq) and we love it even more now with their new food in house - great bar food options. It's family friendly, and the staff is super nice. Looks like a fun place for events. We will always be fans. read more

This was one of those places I could be in love with if a few things were different. Pros: + Staff is awesome. Attentive, fun, easy going and everything you would hope for in a place like this + Atmosphere - The place is cool! In an old barn with a giant fireplace and what seemed to be reclaimed wood everywhere. Super cozy! Cons: - I think the menu could be developed a bit more. Potato chips out of a bag? Sausage grinder was suuper dry. Turkey Bacon melt was okay, but $10 seemed steep for the portion size, ingredient quality, and the fact that it came with chips and not fries. - Beers ... I love IPAs so I tried all 3 in a flight. None of them were very hoppy, but instead had more of a sour taste. Not sure if this is intentional? Maybe they are trying to create something interesting (& maybe I'm just boring ZZZzzz) but I think a more traditional crowd pleasing IPA could be a great addition I think with a bit of development to the menu and beers this place could be awesome read more

I held my wedding as wrbc during the pandemic. We kept our count under the numbers we were supposed to. The venue was more than accommodating. They went above and beyond my expectations. I was worried about weather, and our ceremony. And cutting my guest list. But they managed to social distance everyone, make sure our guests had masks, and kept us more than safe. I can only imagine what a wedding would be like here under normal circumstances. But I got to have the wedding the intimate wedding I waited my whole life for.The beer is amazing. And Covid style they followed the rules to a T .. thank you to the owner and also Moira, for giving us everything we needed during these strange times. I can not recommend them enough! This place has an excellent vibe, and if you're looking for a good place to hang out, it's no doubr one of the best options in the immediate area. (There isn't a whole lot in the area comma unless you drive to the center of Westfield perhaps. The night we were there, it was already getting pretty late and cool outside but it was still too hot inside, luckily they had the fans going so it was tolerable. The beer itself was okay, but none of the ones I tried in my flight were particularly memorable. The blueberry is decent, but a little too blueberry. The American IPA I just didn't care for, the other two IPAs were OK. The best beer was probably the bad boy IPA. Unfortunately didn't get to try the El Dorado. The Cider Kama (which I drink a good portion of one glass because my girlfriend didn't want to finish it,) wasn't particularly good. I should point out that all of the beers were served a little bit too warm. The service was great, and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Overall, it was an OK place to hang out for a little while.. And I'm sure we'll be back. Hopefully they will continue to polish the selection, and will get the serving temperatures adjusted. read more

Beer: First off I love west coast IPA. With that said I will have to say their IPAs are not good. The haze was drinkable but I think they should just toss out their 3 IPA recipes and try again. No disrespect to the brew master but I think changes needed to be made. The pear cider made it easy to wash it all down. Food: The sandwiches came out of a sack lunch. The sausage grinder was so dry and they did not bring out condiments with it. No French fries? Pathetic. Pizza came out of a microwave. Do not eat here! The staff is the only reason we have 2 stars. This review is based on our first and only visit to this place. I doubt it will be our last, though. The vibe of the place is great; pub atmosphere serving pub food. They have a "farm brewers" license, or some such term. It apparently means they can only serve beer that they make. That's just fine. The beer they brew is quite good. I got to sample eight beers between our two flights. All were different: some to my liking, some not so much. But that's the point of tasting a flight, no? I happen to be a hoppy IPA fan. My favorite was the Bad Boy. The food, supplied by another vendor, was decent. I had the Mac and cheese with pulled pork (photo posted). It went well with the beer, but was nothing to rave about. I got to sample the brisket, and that was quite good. This place is a brewery, not a retaurant so don't be disappointed by paper plates and plastic flatware (although I admit I was somewhat). Service was friendly and quite good. One last note. We went on a Friday night. They had live music provided by Chris and Rol --two guys on guitar who couldn't have been better for the over fifty crowd filling the place ... C,S,N,&Y, The Band, Simon & Garfunkel, Arlo Guthrie. It wasn't only the songs they played that made them great, it was the quality of their renditions. We were there fairly early, so if you belong to the younger set, the crowd may well change as the night progresses. You have to go and let me know. read more

Horrible horrible and horrible! 12 of us bought tickets for an 80s tribute band very excited a start time of 4:30 ( what tickets said !) we all get there at 4 thinking it will be busy .. doors opened at 4:30 we all went up stairs and there was crickets meaning nothing ... then was told they started at 7:30 pm .. with baby sisters involved etc.. was very un cool most of us ended up at great awakings brewery with much better service and did not return .. no apologies or remorse when we confronted! read more

3.5 for sure. Was visiting Western MA, for the Big E of course, but my friend just moved to the Westfield area and lives right down the road from WRBC. I love checking out places I've never been in MA, so I asked to check it out. To my surprise, this brewing company had a great rap selection and a pretty good food menu. I decided to get a flight, but almost chose the 5-6 Shandy's they had to offer. I ended up getting the Key Lime beer, Pear Cider, Raspberry Sour and an IPA. All pretty good! I liked the Pear cider the best, as the rest of the more fruity beers were VERY tart. It was a nice change of pace, as I am used to Springfield and its city aspect. I ended up ordering the regular Mac and cheese and it was served hot with chives and bread crumbs. Such a big portion for $9.00! I ended up taking a box to go, but overall it was delicious. read more

Holy hell this place was bad. It does have a cool vibe, old barn with a rustic interior. The beer garden looks awesome. Which is the grace saving them from 1 star. (which a friend or someone will cancel out with a 5 star review) But the offerings.......Horrible. Some of the worst I've had. More than one beer reeked and tasted of Ethyl Acetate(nail polish remover). This is a common by product of fermentation. Notable when fermentation temps are too high and/or the yeast is stressed. I ordered a flight and stopped there. The food was lack luster. Nacho's were bagged chips with some bbq sauce drizzled over. Mac N Cheese was not fresh and did not stand out. I would like to see this place improve. Maybe I'll stop back after giving some time for the brewer to dial in his process. read more

UMMM... so I was brought here by a friend. And I didn't know where I was going. But once upon arriving I was intrigued... it looked cute. We waited in line for about 20mins which was fine whatever. We were seated and we ordered our first drink and then our food. Our drinks were nothing as they said on the menu I ordered a lemonade and whiskey (which is dark) I got a clear lemonade drink which taste like nothing like whiskey, it Which was disgusting, i could not handle it.. but no one ever came to me to even ask me how it was. My parties food came and I never got what i order (fried pickles!) I had to get up and ask for our "waitress" to come back for napkins & waters.. turns out my food was never put in so I had to wait an extra 15 mins. Just not a good first time experience at all. The Westfield River Brewing Co. has everything a proper New England establishment should offer. Great brews, awesome food, and a location that offers foliage views for travelers. I took my dad here for his first brewery tour and this place couldn't be better. We arrived right at noon and the place was empty, we grabbed a seat at the bar and had a great chat with the bartender about the beers and the history of the location. It was the perfect setting because the guy was 67 years old, instantly making my dad feel at ease and comfortable (the traditionally younger and sometimes pretentious craft beer crowd intimidates him). The atmosphere was awesome, it's an old post and beam setting with many noons and crannies, you could be as intimate or social as you pleased. It made me picture an old New England tavern. The beers were amazing, we tried their pumpkin seasonal, their Mexican lager and their stout. The stout in particular was amazing. It was great having the bartender to ourselves. He was very proud of his product, stating he'd match any of his beers against the other well respected breweries in the region. What I loved about their offerings was that they had a beer for every kind of palate, even if you are new to the world of beer with actual taste, you'd find one you liked here. I loved it. Oh ya, and the brisket was awesome too. This place is a 5 out of 5. I fully plan to come back next time I'm home in New England. read more

As mentioned in other posts, this place has a great vibe. It's an old barn, there is a big fireplace with a real fire and a bunch of tables and high tops. They have a good variety of beer to choose from (I tried all 10 beers as a flight shared amongst a few people). Unfortunately, this place did not have fantastic beers (in my opinion). I'm not a beer connoisseur by any means, but I felt like I left there wanting more flavor in the beers. My two favorite beers were the One and the Dude. I know that the Session IPA is a crowd favorite, but for someone who likes IPAs, the One has much, much, much more of that hoppiness to enjoy. The Dude was the best of their dark beer options. I'd like to see how this place develops and maybe come back to try a new variety of beer that they come up with (I saw a label for a sour that they might be making...I'm a sucker for sours). read more

The beer was very tasty and we would've stayed longer had it not been so hot in there and if the food was good. In the summer proper air conditioning is important. It was cooler outside than it was inside. Now the food... Just disappointing. You cannot call that Texas BBQ. I am from Texas and our BBQ is so much better than this. The meat was dry. The sides were clearly not fresh. The mac & cheese was dry and bland. The corn bread was dry and over baked. Even the chain BBQ places in Texas are not this bad. read more

Westfield River Brewing Co provided me with exactly what I wanted on a winter afternoon; good beer in a rustic barn, with a fireplace and fun classic rock tunes on Pandora or whatever. They had 3 IPAs on tap the day we went, which was very happy making, one of which was a session IPA; I also tried the stout and the Tropic Thunder porter, which was freakin delicious. I definitely needed a pint of that one. They brew is with organic coconut, and the flavor really comes through. They also offer food that pairs perfectly with beer, things like grilled cheeses, hot dogs, etc. I ordered a pretzel that weighed about 6 pounds (mild exaggeration), took about an hour to eat (slightly milder exaggeration), and was served with a knife and fork (no exaggeration)- that was a first for me. Unable to decide between heading to Ponderosa or Roy Rogers we went inside to see what had become of the old Chucks. The place has been transformed into a comfortable, cozy spot with an outstanding beer selection, all which is produced right there! Back in June I hosted a surprise birthday party here. The owner was extremely accommodating through the whole process. From allowing me to play my own music, to putting staff on as a "look out", to providing the easiest tab process for my guests and myself. Everyone who came loved the beer and the atmosphere. You can't beat the rustic feel this place has and if you venture to the outside sitting area when the weather is right, they have corn hole to play, woot! The fan favorites for beers were the Session IPA and the Oatmeal Stout. When the party ended, we were sure to get some cans and growlers to go! The staff is really wonderful. When I've been here other times, I never had an empty mason jar. Smiles a plethora, which means something as a patron. Friendly service can sometimes be hard to come by. Located in a cute barn, has a REAL fire place, extremely friendly staff. We came here for a quick bite to eat after a long day and loved the ambiance of the place. We were lucky enough to get the table right in front of the fire place which kept us warm. The menu is pretty short and the food is mediocre- something they could improve on in order to get a five star rating from me. They had a good selection of beers. I enjoyed the "White Pumpkin" with the cinnamon, brown sugar rim. I definitely will be visiting this place again as there aren't too many hot spots around in the Westfield-Southwick area. read more

This new location is fun and hip. The brewery is in a converted barn and its style is everything I want my kitchen to look like. It was torture the last time we went because I was 6 months pregnant. However, I did enjoy the phenomenal homemade buttered pretzel with honey mustard while my husband thoroughly enjoyed a sample flight of their beers on tap. Out of all the breweries we have been to, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of beer on tap and how tasty they all were. I only had two sips for obvious reasons but the Big Red Barn was one of the best beers I've ever had. (And I don't think that's pregnancy talking because I'm more of a cider / champagne drinker in general). This joint is a must see/taste/drink and we will definitely be back once our baby arrives so I can try more. read more

The atmosphere is beautiful and comfortable in an old barn setting. Try to get a table by the huge fireplace. The beers are good. Way out in the middle out Southwick, kind of a long but scenic drive, coming from the metro area of Springfield. Upon walking in the smell of beer brewing and popcorn permeated the air. The beer selection was excellent, but could have been more expansive. There was a nice variety for all types of beer lovers. I heard from a friend the cider was great, however I was feeling a little hoppy tonight. I went with the El Dorado- a west coast ipa, piney with a citrus hop! A few friends of mine got stout and the porter- they liked the but they weren't the best ever, if I'm being honest. The bad boy imperial ipa, however, had a smooth hoppy flavor that any beer lover would love. The order counter was an excellent add to the atmosphere. A-plus grilled cheeses all around. Apple and bacon combo is delectable and they certainly did not skimp on the bacon! The crazy Danish grilled cheese was comforting like a grilled cheese with a zing from the pickles and savory from the bacon. The prices of everything on the menu were great, about 3.50 to 8 dollars!
