Luckily for me, the stars were aligned when I asked a friend about her stylist and she gave me Jamie Gourd's number. Jamie had just moved to Hello Beautiful, which is located on the far end of an otherwise nondescript strip mall. Even with an address in hand I wasn't sure I made the correct turn, but I eventually found the salon, and Jamie. I changed stylists because I was spending four to six hours at the salon every time I had a cut and highlights. I have kids and jobs and house to clean I just can't spend that long on my hair. Even though it was a Saturday morning, Jamie was smiling and perky. She had me in and out in an hour and a half, and my hair looked great. I sent my daughters to her too, and they were equally pleased with their cuts. Hello Beautiful is new, clean and -- because it's open and airy -- pretty noisy when all the stylists have clients. The noise isn't too overwhelming, though, and mothers with young children will love the little table in the corner stocked with colors and books. My kids are older, but it's a nice extra knowing there's something to keep your little angels busy while you squeeze in some much-needed me time.

Upon entering Cuts Plus, I was greeted by a large and boisterous woman who promptly began cutting my hair. She was nice, but overly chatty. I think she spent a bit too much time chatting and not enough time cutting, as I'm sure that there are sections of my hair that are longer than the rest in areas they are not supposed to be. Overall, it's not the worst haircut I've had, but it doesn't exactly look right either. I'm fairly sure I only had one cowlick before this experience. Somehow it seems that I have come out with two. I'm still not sure how this happened! For about $15, I got a cut and that's it. I'm guessing rinsing, combing, or styling someone's hair is an extra charge, or perhaps it's something they just don't do here. In any case, I walked out leaving a trail of hair trimmings all the way to my car. Hansel and Gretel could have easily followed my downed locks of hair all the way to my house. I have been to a few walk-in places before, and this is probably my least favorite. I'll gladly take the time to make an appointment before getting my haircut next time.
