So I took a risk and booked an appointment because I looked like I just walked out of the wilderness after being stranded for a year. I have had many bad KC cuts, and had resorted to cutting my own hair while looking for a stylist. Not a good look. I randomly stumbled upon Hair Lovin and saw it was close to where I live in Old OP. I really liked the vibe of their website and it seemed like they were a radically inclusive salon in a very conservative town, more of a city vibe than the suburbs. I was gonna take the plunge! Anyway, I got to my appointment and I was pleasantly surprised. Very cute salon, everyone taking precautions due to Covid so everyone's masked and they are doing contact tracing. Music was nice and at a good level. Aliyah my stylist came out and gave me a warm greeting. She understood my needs (mixed hair, curly, unruly) and gave me the perfect cut. She used a combo of clippers and scissors and checked in with me along the way. We had a great conversation and I left feeling like a new human! I just adore this place. I've been looking for a reliable hair stylist for A WHILE and stumbled upon Hair Lovin' a few months ago. I was really impressed with how they promoted inclusivity (and their Yelp reviews were great), so I thought I'd give it a try. The vibe of this place is immediately refreshing. There is nothing bougie about it, but it also feels like a well-run business. The stylists actually look happy to be there! My stylist, Ramona is a queen. I originally went here because I wanted to get balayage done on my black-dark brown hair. After a consult, I decided that a dye job wasn't the thing for me, but scheduled a haircut with the owner, who specializes in curly hair. The salon boasts a comfortable, friendly & welcoming environment. Dana (sp?) was perfectly on time for my cut. She washed my hair, and cut it wet. She had quite the job for her as the last person who had cut it left all my curls at one length. Once Dana was done, I had the cutest & fluffiest bob in my natural curl. Even at my old hair stylist I could never really tell after the cut if it was to my liking until I styled it myself, yet at Hair Lovin' I could definitely tell that Dana cut my hair expertly. I don't usually like writing reviews, but I felt this experience had to be shared. I understand how hard it is to run a small business and it's not always the best fit. I recently moved here and I looked through their photos and saw that they specialized in coloring hair. I came here on a Friday to touch up my lavender peekaboo ( it faded to yellowish blond). I had this color at the previous salon I went to. I had an appt with Franchesca. She kept saying she couldn't achieve a lavender unless my hair was light enough and recommended I go a shade darker. She did color swatches on a white piece of paper and I agreed to an ash purple. My hair came out dark fuchsia. She said it'll get lighter after I wash it. I didn't like it when I left but I had to get to work. I still tipped her 25% for her time and work. On Sunday, I washed my hair and it turned blue. They were closed Sunday and Monday, so I called on Tuesday to come in to get it fixed. Im in a wedding party the following weekend and I'm also in the healthcare field so meet with a lot of people and I have to look professional. I never asked for my money back - I just needed it fixed as it was not the color we agreed upon. I got there and she argued with me, telling me I consented to the color fuchsia. Her behavior is quite appalling as she knew I was not happy with the results when I left and had convinced me that it would fade lighter. Not only did it not fade lighter, but it turned bright blue. We agreed to just color it dark as she struggled to understand why I was unhappy and she was not willing to fix her work. I felt that I was polite and made no other requests than to fix the color. She originally was going to add dark color on top of my hair but switched to neutralizing my hair before adding color after her coworker corrected her. It seems as she is new to coloring and is very defensive about her work. The manager was so kind, to offer to put a towel under my neck so it would be less uncomfortable while I was waiting by the sink and I thanked her. After neutralizing the purple/blue and coloring my hair dark. Franchesca started blow drying my hair. It was at this time that I realized she was very angry with my request to fix my hair. She took out her anger on me as she continued to yank and pull at my hair while she was blow drying and brushing. She did not remove the color that was left all over my skin. She did not treat me with this aggression during my first appointment so I know this isn't her typical style. I don't know why she felt the need to treat a paying customer like this. This was supposed to be a moment for me to treat myself but I just felt disrespected. After five minutes, I asked her to stop. She stopped and went straight to the back of the salon. I ended crying all the way home. Not once was I rude or ask for my money back. I just wanted them to fix my hair. read more

So I've been going to the same stylist for 8 years, however, because of my schedule, it's now become increasingly difficult to make the 2-hour drive down to get my hair cut. Enter, Hair Lovin'. I received the recommendation of this place from some roller derby friends of mine, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm pretty edgy; I usually have off-the-wall suggestions for my hair (e.g., lines shaved in the side, bright blonde on the top, etc.), so I was a little worried trusting someone else to give it a shot. I contacted the salon via Facebook with a photo of the hairstyle that I wanted to see if they could swing it. They recommended that I see Beckie. They scheduled me for the next week, later on a Friday evening. I went into the appointment fairly nervous. As I said, I had not been to a different stylist in years, and when you're talking about doing crazy things to your hair, it can be a little unnerving wondering if the new person will be able to do it. Upon walking in, I was greeted by all the ladies. They do have an extensive little snack/drink bar in the back room. I didn't get the pleasure of trying any of it, but it sounded great. Onto my stylist...Beckie was amazing. We discussed the cut (and the color that I want that we will do later) and she made some suggestions that I appreciated. I've had my head shaved around the sides before, with lines in it, and let me tell you...it's always been a little painful because my scalp gets razor burn essentially. My cut with Beckie was anything but that. She was super careful and gentle with me. She's also a great conversation partner. She took so much care in getting everything trimmed up nice and neat. It's seriously the best haircut I've ever had. Also, to add to that, the shampooing process...I literally almost fell asleep because it was so relaxing.
