It had been at least 8-9 years since we were going to be passing Butte and we knew no matter what time (during the day) we got there we'd be eating at Great Harvest. It's our favorite place in Butte. And our very favorite Great Harvest (followed closely by the GH in Anchorage AK). I swear it must be something in the water because the bread is always perfect and the vegetable beef soup is always so tasty. Not so at other Great Harvests we've tried. Great warehouse, casual feel. And what is that smell both outside and inside this otherwise ubiquitous venue? The bakery and the breakfast! Staff super friendly and welcoming even to this obvious tourist/outsider. Paid a short, off-hours visit to Great Harvest on a quick trip into Butte and was greeted warmly by everyone there - the girl behind the counter and the man manning the grill that served the hot, thick-cut bacon in our club sandwiches. You get your choice of bread (I got the jalepeno cheddar) for each sandwich (all around $5.95), and the club came with the aforementioned bacon, great turkey, and a nice spicy mustard. We mostly decided to stop because a sign in the window claimed that Great Harvest had the best latte in Butte, so I had to check out the claim. My wife and i stopped in for lunch for the first time while traveling through yesterday. The staff sure had a way of making us feel like they didn't want to be there and didn't want us there placing orders. We both instantly felt the negative vibe at the counter and at the table. I have been coming here every modification for the past week for their biscuits and gravy and drip coffee. They sure know how to make great biscuits and have bottomless coffee. All this for only $7. I'll start by saying I have yet to have a good experience here in Butte or Helena (which I think finally closed), and this is the fourth time I've had GHB Company's food. I've tried breakfast, sandwiches, and now a salad. Not one time have I eaten here with anyone satisfied with their food, and today, my salad was delivered with half of the ingredients missing. I ordered the cobb salad and it is missing avocados, croutons, and red onions. I'd call for a refund, but I'd rather forget their number. read more

The breakfast sandwiches at Great Harvest may be more spendy than at most fast food joints, but they make up for it in substance and value. Real cheese, two whole fried eggs, and your choice of swine-based meat in between two slices of any of their delicious breads. Chain restaurant, but good reviews so we decided to stop. People seem to like the bread which is fresh baked but probably from a mix sent out by corporate. They did seem to make a lot of food in house which is rare for a chain. Sandwiches were just average as was the bread. Tuna sandwich came with absolutely nothing on it but the tuna salad was mixed well. White onions on the turkey provolone sandwich instead of red onions were kind of odd. This place coerced me to buy up the store. The smell of baked bread is so heavy in the air it wraps around you like a warm winter coat. The always friendly staff is surprisingly chipper for 7 in the morning, which gives me a boost for the day. Their cases are always full of mouth watering brownies and cookies. These offerings give the eater a solid feeling of delicious joy but you wont know the taste of heavenly goodness if you pass up on their gigantic cinnamon rolls. They have an amazing balance of liquid sugar bursting with cinnamon cooked into the lightest yet extremely satisfying roll. You can order these wonders with or without the frosting. I don't know why anyone who is willing to enjoy the exceptionally yummy calories of the roll could pass up on the frosting. It will haunt your dreams if you do pass up on the frosting. In fact this decision will eventually melt your brain. A great place for breakfast or lunch, but bring enough funds to always indulge in that cinnamon roll, with frosting. read more

Chicken pot pie is awful. The worst I've ever had. Undercooked crust. The veloute has an odd sweetness and doesn't taste of chicken at all. Must be using some cheap canned base instead of making chicken stock. There also wasn't a single piece of chicken in it. Peas look like they are canned.
