On 3/8/2023 I was at the Great Hearts Forest Heights school located on Research Dr. in San Antonio, Texas to pick my son up when this San Antonio Police Officer pictured here drove up to the side of my vehicle with his window down, he told me that If I ever was at the School before 3 p.m. that I was out of there. I"m a Black Male, so I don't need to be spoken to with respect or manners on the Great Hearts School Grounds or even given an explanation on the proper times to wait for my Son, this man was in complete jerk, intimidation power, unrestrained mode with this black, insignificant man, no one at this school would care what he said to me. Then he, to ensure I was shaking in my shoes. he asked me a question, in a loud, forceful voice.....Do you understand? It was as if I'd seen this act before or had anticipated it, it was the bait on the hook and I was supposed to be stupider than he was acting and assume that I have rights as a tax-paying citizen of the United States Of America. My reasons for remaining silent and watching this clown try to intimidate me are many, the second time that he yelled "Do you understand" at me, I still didn't say anything, I just sat there, he didn't understand that I'm not the Black Man from central casting that responded are reacts like he expects me to respond and react as he expects me to respond and react, then the third time that he shouted at me "do you understand, nothing inside of me changed. My impression of the school changed drastically in those few minutes with the Bully Cop, I saw the teachers as professionals, the administrators as professionals, or even as super teachers, and educators, now, I found myself counting the number of Black Students that excited the Great Hearts Forest Heights School, not many, there is a reason for that, I fully understand that now. The Bully Cop will continue to work at Great Hearts Forest Heights, giving me a clearer picture of the inner workings of the Great Hearts Forrest Oaks Machine and from hearts Forest Heights, even after I sent them an email, and no calls or communication from the San Antonio Great Hearts Forest Heights School, but I did receive a call from the Dallas area Forest heights, but Great Hearts Forest Heights told the man from Dallas that the San Antonio Police Officer has been doing a Great Job, it is no surprise there., when he is trying on task and only harassing black males and not the white, Hispanic and Indians he is doing a great job. This old cop is super old, he has a disabled veteran license plate and a blue handicapped thing hanging from the mirror of his black Toyota Tundra. I wonder how many innocent black men fell for this bully cop's tricks when he yells at them and they respond and end up arrested for disorderly conduct. People, if you are Black, don't put your children in this school. I'm Black and extremely level-headed, I'm an observer of human behavior and the thought process based on a myriad of things. In the Holy Bible in Ecclesiastes 1:9 you will see that what's been done will be done again, there is nothing new under the sun. I have a Theater background, watching this sorry clown cop, I know bad acting when I see it. No accountability, just the status quo. What can I do? What's next? If you do your research, you'll quickly see that GHFH is one of the best educational options available for children. My daughter has attended for the past two years, and we've seen tremendous growth academically, socially, and personally. One thing we especially appreciate is the school's intentional focus on academics and classical education rather than pop culture distractions, though occasionally the line can feel a bit blurry regarding that aspect. We were initially unsure about the uniforms, but over time I've come to appreciate them. They create a sense of unity among the scholars and help keep the emphasis on learning rather than appearance. There are occasional days ("celebrations") where students can dress up though, such as on Spirit Days and Character Dress Up Days. Kindergarteners have an American Symbols celebration & 100 Days of School celebration for example (although these specifics may change). The academics are certainly challenging, but not in an unreasonable or overwhelming way. It is a rigorous environment that encourages students to grow and think critically. I do believe starting earlier is beneficial, as transitioning from a traditional public school may take some adjustment, though it is definitely possible. The discipline structure is also different from what many families may be used to in traditional public schools, but in my experience it is rooted in respect, accountability, and order. I also want to address a common misconception. While many staff members may personally hold religious beliefs, I have never seen religion imposed in the classroom. The school's emphasis on truth, goodness, and beauty comes from a classical education framework rather than a religious agenda. Different religions are discussed academically as part of learning about history and culture, but religion itself has not been a central focus of our child's education here. Overall, our experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are very happy with the education and environment GHFH provides. read more

We love our Great Hearts school, Headmaster and all the teachers. Our campus is new this year and some of the teachers are as well as most of the parents. It takes a little patience starting a new school. Parents are not familiar with the inner workings of the school and definitely do not get to see what happens behind the school doors unless they're volunteers or picking up early or dropping off late. Students are asked to be quiet while walking in halls so as not to disrupt classes, are asked to walk in straight lines so everyone is accounted for, and not to walk in front of teachers because the teachers are the leaders, not the students. I wonder how many other schools have their Principal making it a point to go to every class and tell the students he loves them, or to sing them a song. He supports his teachers and they should look to their Headmaster as a leader. Teachers have always been responsive to emails. Our school is new and is still a work in progress in some areas, but they are growing, the kids are growing and being stretched. Students are learning independence, patience, how to be kind, how to grow friendships, and how to respond in truthfulness along with many other virtues. Great Hearts may not be the right fit for every family, but it is a great school full of Great Hearted Administration, Staff, Teachers, Students and Parents. This is a Great Hearted Community and we are very proud to be a part of it. read more

This school does not care for your kid, they only care for the money. I send my 8th grade daughter here and she has been getting bullied recently and when she spoke to an adult about it they did NOTHING. my daughter has also been kicked in the face by a boy after she called him out for faking an injury and this boy only got ISS for that day. Kids here are not allowed to have fun what do ever. The last day of school this year was horrible. my daughter got her camera(not a Iphone a disposable Camera) taken away when she wasn't even using it. She also almost got ISS for getting her legs signed by her friends. Last year she did all these things and did NOT get in-trouble. I'm sending my daughter to a different school for her high school years because she is so miserable, and the teachers here don't make it better. 2 Teachers have been fired. Both were perverts but one of those teachers were a racist. He would call children the N word but besides him being a racist he walked into the girls restroom where my daughter was and he said she was looking nice while she was fixing her makeup. Last year the administration took away all the mirrors in the school except the Lower School ones. The old headmaster said my daughter had a sneaky face. i DO NOT recommend this school for your children they do not care for them they will break your children down. My daughter needs to take therapy now because of this school. read more

This school is absolutely horrible. We've had so many horrible incidents with this school and Mr.Doughty. Treated unfairly, picked on, the school being extremely strict. In 9th they get absolutely no freedom, they only have 60 9th graders and 200+ of 8th and the other sections. There's only about 12 kids in each class and there's only 4 sections. They overwhelm our students with information and homework. They give them no socialization time, and everything is completely unorganized, as they just wing it everyday. Last year a kid brought a weapon to school and wasn't punished, only had a slap on the wrist(detention) the parents weren't informed about this incident and the staff kept it a secret when it could've turned badly, and didn't say until the parents confronted them. Today was the last straw as we went on lockdown for 3 hours because a student brought bullets and a knife to school. Police officers arrived on campus and went through everyone's lockers and rampaged it. They took all pencil pouches and searched them and all their stuff. They only sent a email hours later saying there was a lockdown but couldn't tell us why. This proves they don't care about the parents and are constantly hiding things from us! I am withdrawing my daughter and i suggest you please NEVER let your kid come here.. it'll ruin them trust me. read more

I am proud to be a part of the Great Hearts Forest Heights family. My children love the environment, although they have their reservations about the "no pop culture" policy. There is a sense of ordered joy in all that they do. Yes, our children are expected to be silent in the halls, yes they're expected to walk in straight lines, yes they are expected to sit upright while learning and raise their hands when the have a question or a comment. It is all so that they and others can have an environment that is conducive to getting they most out of their education. There is a purpose for what Great Hearts does, and parents will be thankful for it. Great Hearts cares more about our children being people of great character rather than straight A students. The A's are a side effect of the character building through the exploration of nine core virtues; honesty, humility, citizenship, perseverance, responsibility, friendship, integrity, courage, and wisdom. The faculty is awesome, the administration is caring and attentive, and the Headmaster is phenomenal. We couldn't have chosen a better school for our children and look forward to seeing all they can accomplish in the future through their Great Hearts education. read more

We are big Great Hearts fans! We have been a part of the Great Hearts family for going on 5 years and love it. Yes, there is structure, but it is appreciated by both parents and students. We transferred to Forest Heights this year, not only for the shorter commute, but also because we have tremendous confidence in and respect for Headmaster Doughty. He has put a great team together to lead the school. There are numerous reasons why we love GHFH! It's so wonderful that the students are able to read classic literature and have conversations about the text (even agree to disagree) in the classroom, all while showing respect to one another. There is so much creativity in the their learning environment, from singing and musical instruments to literature & history celebrations where the students are able to dress-up, taste foods, & make art from the time period they're studying! It's so fun to be around, I wish I could stay in the classroom and take it all in! Not only is the education phenomenal, but they are learning life-long lessons on how to be virtuous & caring leaders, which is truly what we want for our children. This is a HORRIBLE school. My daughter is went here and ALWAYS complained how strict and unprofessional these teachers are. She would always come home upset of how a teacher there (Ms.Arney) would constantly pick on her. They get mad at kids for no reason and give out detentions/infractions for no reason and things as little as having your shoe untied, or talking. They also give no time for socialization and yell at them when they do talk. The kids here are all stuck up brats who act as if they're better than everyone. The teachers suck and they abuse their power all the time. Not to mention there has been multiple threats to this school, with no clarification. Headmaster Doughty is a racist white man, as so is the other teachers. Headmaster Doughty only cares about money and himself. He favors families who donate more other than ones who don't. PLEASE never send your child here you will regret it when you see that your child lacks social skills. I would rate this 0 stars if i could! read more

This is a very long over due review. The principal is a bully, a racist and an idiot! The assistant principal is an idiot also. Last March that principal Doughty verbally abused my 11 year old. I have encountered his rude attitude a few times before this so after my daughter told us what he did to her in his office we filed a grevience against him with an attorney. In the end Dan Scoggin and Jay Heiler attended the meeting here in San Antonio. That was an expensive apology by them having to fly here to say sorry for that idiot. He messed with the wrong kid, This school is run by all white men, they are all friends and they all stick together. Send your kids to a real private school or a better charter school or at least not Forest Heights. My husband says he is one of those insecure men who feel better about themselves when he tries to be assertive with parents or bully children. I love this school! Students are not allowed to have cell phones on campus, which I think is fantastic. I also really appreciate the books they read -- the curriculum is excellent. This is a wonderful school, but it's not for everyone. If you're not interested in Classical Education, this might not be the right fit. read more
