The other people on the tour were also very welcoming, which made it even more fun. The tour lasted about an hour and gave us a great look into the history of bourbon and whiskey how it's made, the materials used, how it's stored, and the aging process. The tastings were definitely strong, but I learned new ways to enjoy bourbon and whiskey and discovered the different flavor notes in each pour. Found out about Great Jones Distilling on pulse when they were running a deal that I couldn't pass up; so glad I didn't. The interior of the restaurant easily gives 5 star energy. We had the option to seat where we wanted, which was nice and decided to sit in the middle of the room so we could be close to the live music but far enough away were we could hear each other talk. For starters I got the mimosa and my friend got the old fashion, both were made very well. For the entrees we both ordered the Short Rib Benedict, which was by far the best benedict i ever had. Every component of this dish was created perfectly. I cant speak enough about how good it was. With the pulse deal we got to sample out a flight of whisky. Each glass was alike a shot size and the flavor was described exactly to the taste. So good. Im not a whiskey drinker but I came here for brunch with a friend on a Saturday morning which included a cocktail, an entree, and a whiskey flight. The cocktails were good and the food was tasty. The portion sizes are small though. The whiskey tasting was fun because you can really taste the difference between the pours but since I'm not the biggest fan of whiskey, my friend had to finish most of the flight for me. It's a nice restaurant and the servers were attentive. I just wish they played actual jazz music during this advertised jazz brunch. The musicians were kind of just playing elevator music. read more

A friend told me that this place makes great old fashions. He was correct! I sat at the bar...The bartenders here have masterd their craft. Sammy and Jack took time with each drink created. Everyone in our group of six was pleased with their drinks and food! I had the chicken sandwich. It was good. But I tasted the wings and they were way more seasoned than the fried chicken sandwich. I had an amazing tour with Jackson! He was very personable and knowledgable about the distillery and I learned a lot about the process of how whiskey, bourbon and rye is made. The tastings were a nice touch which I was not aware of at the time were inclusive with the tour so we samples 3 different types of whiskey! At the door concluded, my boyfriend and I decided to eat lunch at the bar upstairs. I had a short rib orecchiette pasta and he had the $26 cheeseburger and old fashioned lunch menu! My pasta was DEEELICIOUS!! Very meaty, they did not skimp on the short rib at all. Very flavorful and I can't stop thinking about it to be honest! We will be back to try their happy hour menu one day! They are pricey food items but I am sure the quality and quantity will be worthwhile. TL;DR: Beautiful space, mediocre drinks and food, and a poorly executed, unannounced drag show that completely ruined the vibe. I was walking by with someone and the place looked very cool inside, so we went in planning to have a few drinks at the upstairs bar. It started out quiet and relaxed with a really nice vibe, but then, out of nowhere, an extremely obnoxious drag show began and completely killed the atmosphere. It completely disrupted the mood we went there for. To be clear, I do not have anything against drag shows. I have been to several and they are usually fun, but this one felt out of place and poorly done. We had already ordered food, so we were basically stuck, otherwise we would have just paid for our drinks and left. Instead, we were trapped and finally ended up rushing through our appetizers just to get out of there, we finished our drinks very quickly, and left. It is a shame, because the space is beautiful and has a lot of potential, but I am not sure what they are trying to be. EDIT: This is why I ended up fully at 1 star and in response to their reply. The drinks were okay, but not great. The cocktail menu felt very one-dimensional. I understand they are a distillery and bourbon is their focus, but there should be more variety beyond whiskey-based options. The food was also unremarkable. We had the crudo, which was just okay, and the spinach and artichoke dip, which was bland unless you added a fair amount of salt. Nothing was terrible, just very average. In their response to my review, they claimed there were signs announcing the drag show, but we did not see any signs indicating that a drag show would be taking place. If there had been any clear notice, we would have gone elsewhere, because we specifically wanted a quiet, relaxing place to decompress. The restaurant was closed for a private event, so the bar was our only option. The show itself was not well executed. The "lighting" was someone waving a flashlight around, including directly into my eyes, which was extremely annoying. I understand it is Pride Month and I support that, but this felt out of place for the setting, had no real warning, and was simply not good entertainment. read more

I booked the VIP tour for my fiancé as an early Valentine's Day gift since he's a big whiskey fan! We arrived early and went to the second floor bar to get a cocktail. Most cocktails were $18+ and handcrafted by the bartenders. The bar area is dimly lit and perfect for a date night. We started the tour with Amanda on the second floor. She did an excellent job explaining the bourbon making process and throwing in small fun facts about distillery rules in Manhattan. We ended the tour in the basement in their tasting room tasting 4 of their whiskies. I'm not a huge whiskey person but my favorite was the four grain. I do wish we had a little longer to taste the whiskies because it felt a little rushed. We were able to check out the speakeasy afterwards which is a really cool space that can be rented out for events. I did feel the end of the tour was rushed as Amanda and Stephen were gently pushing us to get into the elevator to get to the lobby and it was not even 8:30. They have a small gift shop in the front and give you $10 off if you purchase a bottle. I would recommend it to others but it's not an experience I would go back and do over again! read more

I decided to take a tour of this distillery on its 4th Anniversary. I've seen posts and articles, with all of the notable historical connections in its footprints. The space itself is gorgeous, with is copper, brass, wood and smoldering black accents, meeting each person in the entrance. The staff is accommodating and thorough, from start to finish. The tour is funny, informative and inclusive, as it winds throughout the entirety of the space. The whiskey is well-made and has surprisingly pleasant notes, especially the rye. A fun tour and great space We started our visit with a tour and tasting. The tour portion covered the basics of Bourbon distillation inflow they use their pot still and column still. The tasting portion of the tour was also fun. The tour guide explained each expression and answered questions. After the tour we visited their bar on the second floor. The distillery uses New York State grains. Some of their products are quite good. We will return to see what new products they produce in the future. read more

The tickets were pricey but I immediately jumped at the opportunity -- you typically find wine + cheese events, not Whiskey and cheese! Perfect for a date night in the city. The tour was quick, about a half hour or so and they tell you about the differences in bourbon vs whiskey and how it is all made. Then we went to the basement for the tasting. It was great! What a vibe! Heard of this place because of the pulsd app. I was really excited to come with my partner. He loves whiskey and I thought it would be such a cute date. They hand a live jazz band playing which was lovely because we weren't expecting that at all. The ambiance was amazing! However I felt that where we sat was not as clean as it should be... there were food crumbs on the booths... and that was not a fun experience. My partner really enjoyed the whiskey flight! We visited Great Jones Distilling for a birthday 'Bourbon & Bites' event. The location is stunning; very elegant and sleek. We arrived about 30 min prior to our experience and were allowed to bring any drinks from before into the tour. Our tour guide Omar was funny, knowledgeable and entertaining and even brought out a special 5th tasting for the group because we were celebrating a birthday. Overall it was a great experience. I learned a bunch of tidbits about prohibition and distillation that I did not know prior. The room for improvements I'd recommend; the tour is about 20-25 mins and our tasting was barely 30 min and felt very rushed. I understand the need to book and make that income for the event space but I think an extra 15-20 min allotted between groups so folks don't have to drink the bourbon so fast and be rushed out would be preferable. Everyone was vocal about feeling pushed out; we are walked through steps of how to smell, sip, chew and enjoy the tastings for the first over 7-8 min and then have less than 20 to enjoy 3 more. Perhaps the experience would be best at 75-90 min instead of 60. Also, the Brie cheese presented was dried out on all sides so it tasted hard like it had been cut more than 4-5 hours before. For the money spent on the experience ($100 pp) I would have hoped for fresher cheese/food. Fun experience for a birthday or a visitor. read more

The first Manhattan whiskey distillery since prohibition and it didn't disappoint. I first came here a year or two ago for restaurant week (which they don't participate in anymore) and enjoyed that you get a whiskey flight with restaurant week. My favorite is the rye. This time around, I went to celebrate their fourth year anniversary with some friends with a $4 distillery tour and all weekend happy hour. The tour guide and the tour was great. I especially liked the tasting at the end (which was the same 3 whiskeys that I've tasted before but were still great). Before and after the tour we tried some drinks as well. Out of all the drinks we tried, we liked the paper plane (on the happy hour) and a soy sauce mango drink called Mango Pash (not on happy hour), the later being our favorite! read more

Great Jones holds a pretty cool spot as one of the few (if only) whiskey distilleries in Manhattan. Woody, our tour guide, was great and very engaging, and we had the opportunity to sample three kinds at the end. While there, we also tried the whiskey cocktail specials offered by Great Jones, in addition to small bites like chicken in blanket, cheese, and tuna tartare. We came across Great Jones during one of our walks through the city, and figured it'd be a great place to stop in to get out of the rain! Once inside we meet with the hostess who registered us for their next distillery tour which ran us about $35/per person. I kind of balked at it at first but after going through the tour I felt like we got our money's worth. While waiting for our time slot we went upstairs to their lounge area and order some drinks. The Gold Soul was the favored of the two drinks for both us, but the Autumn's Edge was great too. Probably not for everyone if you're not a fan of a more earthy taste. The atmosphere itself was already classy yet laid back, and even more so due to it being pretty quiet during the day. Our bartender talked to us about the speakeasy that they were running a Christmas pop up out of 3 days a week and made sure we got to see it before leaving. The tour was pretty in depth. The guide went over the basics of bourbon, and then highlighted what separated them from other distilleries. I am always fascinated by the brewing and distilling process so I was eating up all the information given we even got to smell part of a charred barrel! Once the tour was done we went down to the basement and did a testing of bourbons and learned how to change the flavor of them from one sip to another. At the end we got to try a special bourbon and toured the Christmas speakeasy! I was happy and excited to learn about Great Jones Distillery when I first began working in the city. I enjoy whiskeys and bourbons as my first choice when enjoying an adult beverage. I saw on their website that the bar is open from 330pm and the restaurant opens at 5pm. This schedule works out great for me. So a coworker and I headed over and we were blown away by the decor , the staff, the food and most of the Whiskey.
