I washed a big comforter in one of their bigger machines... way easier than mine at home! Machines are fast and efficient! I washed/dried/folded 5 loads in just over 2 hrs! There are plenty of sitting areas and a couple vending machines. Pricing is very reasonable and they even take credit cards. They are open until 7p daily and also offer drop-off laundry for $1/lb. I saw the guys working on an order and they fold IMMACULATELY. They even helped me walk my hampers out to my car. Best customer service!! I will be back!

It seems more authentic coming from a mom and pop than a burgeoning chain though. Sparkle doesn't keep the late night hours I favor for the chore of washing and drying my clothes. I have seen them with the front door still unlocked and the open sign lit up past their posted hours though. Some of the machines are pretty temperamental. I couldn't get one to switch to whites after I'd already added detergent and oxyclean pods. I was just going to let it go through as colors until finally on the tenth try on the button my cycle registered. There was also one dryer I had to move my clothes from as no amount of button pressing could get it to start. Fortunately my quarters were good for the lower dryer as well if I switched to that one so I wasn't out fifty cents. Sparkle does have an awesome sit down video console loaded with like a couple dozen old school Atari games. I played some Frogger on a couple of visits here and some Ms. Pac-Man on one, but again this thing is testy. Only one of the two coin slots works. Fortunately you can get your coins back and the games only cost a quarter in 2024. Sparkle also has a Spider-Man pinball machine. I was having trouble with that as well. It nabbed a quarter from me without registering it had received it. With some vigorous jabbing of the coin return button I managed to get it to eject a Canadian dime some moron had stuffed in there but not my quarter. I brought it up to the front desk and told the guy my story. With more prodding of the coin return button as well as unplugging it and plugging it back in he managed to free my quarter and get Spidey up and running. Sort of. I was quickly back up at the attendants counter upon discovering only one of the three flippers worked. He returned for my demonstration. "Well," he said "you can just play it like this or I can give you your fifty cents back." I was taken aback by such a stunning ignorance about the game of pinball. I told him I wasn't about to just let the ball drain anytime it came down on the entire left side of the field of play, not even getting into the smaller point of losing the fun factor and potential points of the upper flipper. So he gives me my fifty cents back but here's what really galls me : I was there for awhile longer finishing my loads and he never unplugged the game or put an OUT OF ORDER sign on it. My reaction should have let him understand that game was unplayable and that lack of attention to detail is just gonna carry over to their bread and butter, those fussy washers and dryers. So Sparkle lost its shine with me and I don't expect I'll be back. I will always remember I was there during the great fire at the dispensary/ vape store way over at 15 Mile and Groesbeck when massive amounts of vape cartridges and other volatile materials were exploding for over an hour. I could hear it from the parking lot here and was wondering if it was a distant approaching thunderstorm or somehow fireworks in March. The garbage cans are overflowing, and somebody actually left a black bag full of garbage sitting next to the garbage pail. I texted the phone number to let the company know all they said was people don't respect their facility. They told somebody comes there from 10 AM to 2 PM every day to clean the place. It doesn't look like anybody has been here in weeks!

A giant spiderwebbed crack on the window next to the side door closest to Gratiot was my first clue as to the decline of this already downtrodden business. I think maybe someone rammed into the building with their vehicle or perhaps someone was ripped off by the adjacent coin dispenser, which only gave me $2.50 in quarters for a fiver, and decided to take it out on this hapless pane of glass. There was one couple doing laundry when I got there and I heard her complaining about certain dryers being incredibly slow. I thought she meant the larger ones in the back, as I saw the man with her look to be transferring clothes from them to the smaller dryers in the front. A woman came in asking about the bathroom and they told her the laundromat keeps it locked at night. I told her I just pissed outside which was true. I had to go and found a handy pile of old brown leaves out back out of sight. The change machine didn't light up as out of service despite being out of quarters or just being willing to dispense them. I decided to try to risk another dollar, first with the other change machine, something that looks like a relic from the 70s. (No comments about yours truly, please.) Nothing doing on vacuuming up my dollar bill. Who knows if it was even plugged in. For shits and giggles I tried the machine that robbed me in the first place. Same thing. I walked over to the Marathon on the next block, which is about as ghetto as Uptown Laundry. I bought a York peppermint patty and got $2 in quarters back. The same woman who was just asking about the bathroom in the laundromat was in there, saying it was late, she had no place to go and she was probably sleeping in the laundromat. I go back to UL, sit down on a picnic table bench and start eating my minty candy. A rough looking dude walks in, grabs a snack off a secret stash he's hidden atop a dryer and sits on the bench of the picnic table right next to me, like 3 feet away, and just stares at me, eating crackers, crumbs falling all out of his mouth. No respect, or more likely no clue about social mores. Fortunately my clothes were almost done so I walked over to the washers. I take em over to what I thought were the good dryers. First set doesn't work. Take em over to the next row. Actually better since it's farther away from the vagrant who seems to have the same plan as the woman in the gas station. After 24 minutes, two cycles, it's clear they're the crappy lukewarm dryers that woman was talking about. And the loiterer kept facing me the whole time. I thought he was staring at me, but his eyes were usually off to the side, staring at some apparently random fixed place. Total zombie mode. He lit up a smoke at one point and halfheartedly asked "you don't smoke, do you?" at another. As oblivious as he was he knew he wasn't getting a lung dart from me. I'm an urban explorer who doesn't get spooked easy but there's plenty of abandoned buildings I've been in that have felt safer than here. Some have even been less smelly. I moved my still wet clothes to the big dryers, farther from the unfortunate man, who fortunately wasn't joined by the unfortunate woman I saw earlier. After another cycle my clothes still were wet and I didn't feel like going to get more change from the gas station. Old dude might have stole my clothes. Looked like he needed some. I packed up my moist clothes and went to another dumpy but much better laundry to finish em. Never going back here again.

The last laundromat we used charged $1.25 per pound plus the cost of the machines, so I did it myself. Anyway, a decent value here. Clean place, prompt service. They texted me when the laundry was done. We are staying at Northpointe Shores RV Resort and I noticed a couple of other launderterias (term my husband likes to use, he's from New Orleans) between here and there, but I'm glad I selected this one.
