I saw 2 different therapists with this group and both were quick to disclose personal details of their life, they were not attentive or present during sessions. I was often left feeling like if I didn't follow their "advice" then I was shamed or being pushed to take action when I couldn't. Cynthia continually looked down her nose at me while verbally judging me, making snide comments. It wasn't until I disagreed with her, she went off! She smiled out the corner of her mouth and then snapped at me screaming that I came in here HIGH off of caffeine(I came in w med Tim H Coffee, had 5 sips so far all morning) Screaming at me while slandering me, this lady was saying some WILD stuff!!, shutting my foot in the door because she was trying to get me out. Cynthia stated she was going to taint my file and ban me from all locations so I can't see anyone from any of Great Lakes Psychology Group, in which I have to call the office Monday morning to ensure this woman doesn't mess with my health records. GLPG may not be perfect, but some of these reviews are wild. Yes, you have to fill out the basic forms and provide payment method for copayment before you can see a therapist; this is clearly spelled out up front and is standard practice across the board. You can't bombard your therapist with calls or messages off the clock "just to ask them something" or to get their help with paperwork. Get a grip, people. A therapist isn't your on-call slave or parent. Anyway, GLPG is a good option for many with insurance copay who require virtual appointments. Their staff is generally professional and courteous. I'd say their main limitation is that they have very few therapists available to take on new clients at a given time, so you're pretty much at their mercy when selecting someone and it can be hit or miss. Overall, though, this is probably how more offices should operate and I appreciate their work. read more

I have been in and out of therapy for years. GLPS is very convenient, but after trying 4 different therapists I am finally done. Every single therapist I've been paired up with has been extremely unenthused, uncaring and responds as if they have zero experience in mental health. Even worse, I sent an email to management to voice my concerns and was met with a response basically just telling to go elsewhere if I feel my needs are not met. This is how you treat people looking for help?! This company seems to care more in the business of making money than providing actual and meaningful care. SHAME ON YOU. read more

Terrible experience - their account management is atrocious. I was really struggling and needed these appointments and they completely disregarded me. I was advised I had an outstanding balance and due to this I couldn't continue appointments until cleared. I paid this off immediately contacted their billing department and provided them with the receipt. I then made an appointment which had to be scheduled two weeks out due to availability. Then right as I'm starting my appointment and in the queue for the online portal I get a text from the therapist claiming I have an outstanding balance and she needs to cancel the session and can't reschedule until cleared. I provided her the email references yet despite this she was not able to continue with the session. I requested her to have their team call to clear any balance. That was on 12/21 and I never received a call. I followed up 2 weeks later a was advised there is no outstanding balance. Will never use this group again and highly recommend you do not either. read more

Joshua Sinclair was hired by my sons mother for counseling services. It took several phone calls and emails to his employer, Great Lakes Psychology Group to even get an initial phone call. During the initial phone call he seemed less than interested but gave me a bit of background info. Come to find out from my sons mother the background info he gave me regarding my son was wrong. He either lied to me or my sons mother, but either way he lied. I have called more than 20 times to get a follow up after treating my teenage son and he will not return phone calls. If you want results and someone who is responsive and communicates DO NOT HIRE OR ENGAGE THIS PERSON FOR ANYTHING. The bottom line is Sinclair lacks professionalism and basic decency. read more

Today was supposed to be my 1st online session with "therapist" Stacy Golliff. I waited more than a month for this session and am very much in need of therapy due to recent trauma. A month ago, I received an email from GLPG to complete a bunch of documents. I completed everything besides submit my credit card info. I haven't received any communication afterwards except a email reminder for my upcoming sessions with the zoom info. Yesterday morning, I get a text from a random # (apparently Stacy's office number) stating she needs my credit card info, and a few other things. Not once did it say it was required. No email and no call for required docs. Today, I was waiting on zoom at my scheduled time and she didn't show up. I waited a few minutes and then decided to text that random # back to let Stacy know I'm online. After a few minutes, Stacy says that she can't meet with me until I fill out the forms. I ask her if she can call me as I had questions. She said no and that I can call GLPG support staff. I then completed the forms blindly as requested, at this point its 15 min into our session. She said something was still missing so I asked if she can just give me a call. She brushes me off and says she only talks to her clients via zoom and if I'm having issues filling out the forms, she can have GLPG call me and RESCHEDULE my appointment. I told her I didn't want to reschedule because I waited a whole month for this. I asked her to send me the link again for what was missing, and she just disappears and stops responding. At this point I'm crying and hurt because a so called therapist should know those needing therapy and most likely not in the best state of mind. She made me feel like a business transaction, responded to my texts SO SLOW, and I had already felt disconnected with her. I called GLPG and explained them how upset I was with my first impression. They were able to reschedule me with another therapist this evening, therapist Stephanie Lake. I am mustering up courage now to be able to speak to and put trust in someone new and am hoping it goes well. I will follow up with my reviews. GLPG did mention the therapists are responsible for obtaining their clients information well before their appointment. I was contacted only once via text the day before my appointment. I am hoping I don't get charged for this disappointment. One thing I have been told by many is WE interview the THERAPIST. WE choose our THERAPIST. There are so many out there, we have to find one that we can connect with instantly. Don't ever feel obligated to talk to someone who kills your trust, shows any form of judgement, just wants your money, or doesn't give you good or helpful vibes. read more

So, here is the thing. If this was a review about the psychiatrist here, I would easily give 4-5. HOWEVER, Great Lakes Psych has the worlds worst people manning the phones. It is nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone via phone, and half the time you do contact them they fail to do some critical part of the process like sending you emails with paperwork or sending the zoom link for your telemedicine appointment. I tried to get a friend to come here. It took 8+ phone calls across two days to actually have someone pick up (don't bother leaving a message; no one checks them and no one responds). When they finally picked up and supposedly scheduled her for an appointment (fully disregarding her asking for a particular psychiatrist, btw), they never emailed her or contacted her again. She ended up going to somewhere else due to the incompetency of the people working the desk. Honestly, if I weren't already connected to a psychiatrist I like, I'd leave here. I already nearly missed a bill because the secretarial staff failed to email me in a timely manner. Don't come here if you aren't already a pt here. The doctors are great, but everone around them is awful. read more

Gennea Moore was counseling us but it went south quickly. Each session we were each given a little less than 30 minutes to talk, we were encouraged to complain about one another. Who wants to hear their significant other shoot them down at every possible turn, it was obvious we were seeking some common ground to move forward & this wasn't it. By the 3rd session I was exhausted & felt that this method only intensified negative issues. Never once were we exposed to anything that resembled truth-seeking or problem solving. ...if you really want professional guidance go elsewhere, if you want to experience scheduled complaining for an hour this is a guarantee. read more

Make an appointment literally anywhere else. The therapist doesn't do anything except say "mhm" or "okay" the entire time. They only care about making money. I know this because I explained to them the reasons why I stopped scheduling appointments/wasn't paying them and they don't stop calling, texting, and emailing. Sometimes more than once a day. Imagine harassing a patient everyday just to remind them they're poor. I've told them 3 separate times that they will get paid when I can afford to take care of myself and they keep calling. I would leave zero stars if I could. I have been calling places non stop trying to get my 10 year old that is self harming herself in therapy. On Tuesday I spoke to Alyssa on the phone and she could only find telehealth. I was 100% okay with that as I just wanted my daughter to be seen. She made us an appointment for a couple weeks out but it was sooner than any other place. I was looking though the new patient forms and saw it said in person in Dearborn. I called back and they said yes I was booked in person in Dearborn and the therapist doesn't even offer telehealth. Since we live over 40 minutes away and that's with good traffic that wouldn't work. They pretty much said they couldnt help us and to just call back every week. I would be careful booking appointments with this place because they obviously don't know what they are doing. read more

On the other hand her colleague Ryan momberger should really consider a new profession. DBT is the gold standard of treatment and it is for the once deemed untreatable. When being a DBT therapist you are working with people who are at high risk of attempting suicide and who participate in self injury behavior. Ryan did not do his job. I suffer from severe mental illness. DBT has structure and beliefs unlike any other form of treatment. Ryan never did a life worth living with me or had me sign a contract the purpose of signing the contract is to ensure the therapist that you will not kill yourself while working with them. This is imperative because Marsha who developed DBT states you cannot get help if you are dead. I honestly could go on and on about Ryan and his unprofessionalism but it'll just sound like I'm coming from my emotional mind and I'm not. I will use my DBT skill checking the facts and It is a fact that I had a scheduled appointment with Ryan and he neglected to send me a link and show up for the appointment. I also reached out for him for phone coaching and I explained the situation and how I felt and asked him for skills. His response was to refer to his phone coaching worksheet. When offering phone coaching which DBT therapists do they set firm boundaries around their phone coaching. The phone calls and worksheet that he wanted me to complete would have been effective if I was not past the point of distress tolerance skills. I told him I needed a new therapist and continued to suffer with no help from the person I am paying to help me. After a day of suffer I told him I was done with him. That's all. Ryan literally did a wellness check on me and lied to local authorities about what I told him. Due to the fact that I have an extensive history of mental illness and this was not my first wellness check. I successfully avoided three different police departments. Finally I spoke with a police officer who viewed my text messages and told me I was fine to go unless I wanted to talk to anybody or have a psychological evaluation. I did not need a psychological evaluation what I needed was Ryan my DBT therapist to use phone coaching and simply tell me what skills to try in order to get through my crisis. After this entire fiasco I called great lakes therapy and left multiple voicemails. I was finally called by Ryan's supervisor who told me DBT wasn't for me. She doesn't even know me. I told her you don't even know me DBT is a gold standard of treatment and I would like a new therapist she said in order to do so I would have to meet with Ryan again. When meeting with Ryan I did my best to effectively communicate with him he was very repetitive and ineffective. Everybody makes mistakes and he made one. Instead of admitting that he repeated the same thing over and over again. A DBT therapist is supposed to teach skills, offer phone coaching and in my personal opinion validate feelings. Since DBT Is the only course of treatment for a psychiatric diagnoses such as borderline personality disorder which statistic show 10% of people end up dying from suicide and even more attempt unsuccessfully. Hospitalization is not shown to be helpful either. DBT is literally the only course of treatment. There is a biological social theory behind it and these people suffer immensely they are described as third-degree burn victims emotionally slightest touch causing them enormous pain. Great Lakes without a doubt in my mind will be shut down due to medical malpractice which they probably have insurance for because people are going to commit suicide while in the care of therapists there besides Jessica. Ryan confused me being mentally ill with stupid and that is the biggest mistake any medical provider can ever possibly do with me. It's also important to note that they don't even do things to protect themselves like use the zoom platform to record therapy sessions. Ryan said this is because zoom is a very expensive platform to use. Do not go to great Lakes therapy. There are many other DBT protocol programs out there that are willing to help you. Those being the family Institute through Northwestern, Chicago DBT institute, skyway behavioral health and The DBT center of Chicago. I got these referrals from a therapist at the family institute that did not have to respond to my email. There is no excuse for any kind of provider to not provide a referral for someone seeking treatment. I don't care for a response on this review I am just letting you know that this Organization will get sued and people will lose their lives because of the negligence of the staff at great Lakes therapy. read more

I am feeling very frustrated as I write this. I am about to write a check for $40 to pay for services I already paid for. Why is this happening you ask? I'm not entirely sure. Despite following the company's procedures for cash payments, I've been repeatedly told that I still owe money for 2 sessions. I have receipts for the sessions in question. When I provide these as evidence I am told that the payments I have made do not apply towards specific dates, but rather a balance. I find this very troubling as the bill lists specific dates but then they tell me those don't matter. When I raised a fuss about this, I was told that they "found" one of the missing payment and would adjust the balance. Today I got a new bill for the same amount, but with a new date. I feel like I am being scammed hard. Don't ever go here. They will "lose" your money and hold you accountable. Also, their therapists are mediocre. read more

This place really stinks. First it's totally awkward going in there having to check in on a computer like that. But whatever. My issue is with the therapist Christina Schmidt. She just totally blew us off. She was seeing my teenage daughter. No explanation just no longer continued any more sessions. This was a 14/15 yr old and she just stopped returning my calls. Yet she continued to send me bills of course-but she wouldn't answer the phone to answer a question I had for her. BS to that. I ended up not paying the balance, whatever it was. My husband and I have been seeing our therapist for over a year now. We have recommended her to our family members and friends. I have seen numerous counselors of the year but finally am getting the help I need--I have never been treated for my depression and anxiety, and I've struggled with this since childhood (I am in my thirties now). I have a long way to go, but I have the right person in my court! It's such a relief! The staff in the office are all very understanding and helpful as well. I believe the therapists are independent contractors because there's no front desk, only a self-checkin station in the lobby. My therapist is awesome, very helpful. I am glad I waited to leave a review. I didn't know that being told by your therapist that I am angry and bitter is helpful or basis for a diagnosis. I was shocked at the statement which not only was off base, but totally a blow in the gut. It is especially interesting that I am being treated for major depression. So needless to say, that will be my last visit. Interesting I didn't tell him I could care less about his family, dogs, life which would take up a good portion of the previous sessions, I was quite educated though that for me to get on fmla, I don't need his help, which I learned later that day from my EAP. I don't need anyone bashing me when I am coming to and paying for help. I started on road to therapy because I couldn't sink much lower and to prevent an involuntary hospital stay. If that is supposed to help someone, I made a grave mistake. If that's is his opinion he should keep it to himself. When I concluded the session, i reeled even further. I have multiple issues, surprised at the name calling, I am many things , but angry and bitter, not even close. I am disappointed a lot, but not bitter or angry and should be able to speak about what bothers me, and if he felt that way, maybe work on it, but no one has ever classified me as bitter or angry. I should be able to express myself as I have been really going through it of late. He couldn't be more unprofessional than that, well. The EAP felt also it wasn't right. Why can't a person express themselves be not happy with things without being labeled. i Use my freedoms when I am disappointed in mediums such as this, contacting management, leaving feedback, which is what I was expressing, then I get that. Well, since your comment, I'm just an angry bitter black woman. funny, I was talking about having to go round and round trying to get a sleep study test and multiple calls to avoid the expense of an evaluation, or dealing with a company's poor customer service for nearly 4 months and told him I hunted down the CEO, and conveyed my issues, so that makes me angry and bitter. just the previous Saturday my son and I were out and was hit from behind, now I'm carless, however, angry would have had me jumping out of the car and going off on the drunk that hit us, and not calling the police as to not bring him to be arrested, among so many other things I get and express my disappointment in. I spent the next call crying my eyes out, so thank you, and angry would have me telling you how I feel and bash you and bring you harm. Quite disappointed with the over a year's worth of weekly visits my daughter had with one of their newest psychologists. I felt like I was dropping her off into a black box. Very little feedback or communication from the psychologist on what she was doing and what results she was trying to achieve. Just visits and payments, visits and payments. My wife and I NEVER saw any improvements. The psychologist didn't communicate well to us anything unless we asked, then it was still very unclear and inefficient. Advice to all parents with kids that need help: Get someone with as much experience as you can. Make a contract up front for weekly or bi-weekly feedback. If it is not clear what is happening and you are not seeing improvements after 1 to 2 months, find someone else. read more

I go to the one in Shelby Twp. and couldn't find any reviews for that one so I'm adding my review here. My therapist is not the problem. I really like my therapist. What I don't like is the way these folks do business. It's bad enough that they are in an industrial complex off of 23 Mile Rd. which is extremely hectic with traffic and 18 wheelers and I have PTSD from being hit by a truck. But it's not just me that has a problem with the location. My husband who is a very good driver drove me there and he was appalled at the wait to try and get out of there and even put it in reverse to get out another way. They don't have a receptionist either, you have sign yourself in on a computer screen and wait for your therapist in the "waiting room". They've since added a sign saying no food or drink allowed. I guess they're worried about their carpet tiles. One time I needed to see my therapist on a different day and I had to go to a different room within the same building as they had rented their usual room out to another therapist at that time and day...that's how money hungry they are. Now they have contacted me on a Saturday morning via text (I never gave them permission to text me) to say I have to go to a website to enroll in paperless billing. I don't appreciate being bothered on a Saturday morning because THEY WANT to bill me differently. I don't like/believe in giving my financial information online and I don't work for THEM. They are supposed to be the ones offering a service. They are only concerned with themselves and the making of more and more money. I guess 50 cents to have a prepaid​ envelope to mail your payment to them is too much for them because THEY don't have a receptionist. If any company needs to be personable it is in the psychology field. This company is so concerned with themselves and not the patients it is ridiculous. I may even quit my therapist and find another if I HAVE to give them my information which is really too bad as I was already seeing my therapist when my therapist switched the company they worked for. I am vigilant in sending my payments the day of my visit so it's not that I have not been paying them on time. They just want to have everything their way.
