We come to this sweet little store at least twice a year...whenever we are in Glen Arbor. Certainly a selection of teas that we cannot find elsewhere, not to mention the amazing balsamic vinegars! We live in Los Angeles, and this is where we go to get our tea! I've even had it shipped to me a few times. Brigita is so kind and helpful, and it's always a treat to see her when we come in. What a lovely little shop! I loved that they offered samples of iced tea outside on a hot day. I liked both, but purchased the Green Rooibos Sunsplash to take home. This was a fantastic, tasty blend. Great Lakes Tea and Spice offers loose leaf tea, seasoning blends, salts, and spices. Its a small store right off the main road in Glen Arbor. They offer an excellent selection of teas and spices. I look forward to returning later this summer. The freshwater pearls green tea and green rooibos sunsplash both taste excellent and come in tins with beautiful artwork. My husband and I stopped into Great Lakes Tea & Spice after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes. I was SO impressed by the selection of teas, spices, and oils as well as the warm and inviting decor and the care taken by the owners (Chris & Heather) to really know their trade. I ordered a brewed vanilla tea and got to watch their super-cool loose leaf steeping process. Chris and I chatted about the shop's history and the couple's vision for spreading wellness in Michigan and beyond via their satellite shops (in Cleveland Clinic) and online store. We also browsed Heather's shop of handmade jewelery just behind the tea shop. What an amazing selection of Turkish pieces - everything from the delicate to the funky-chunky! Warning: This place is not at all like the other kitschy, over-priced souvenir shops you'll find in the Traverse City area. You know, the ones that lure you in with free samples and try to load you up with everything from cherry wine to cheese to fudge to popcorn. The tea, spices AND service here are all the real deal! My first experience at Great Lakes Tea and Spice was a few years ago. I loved taking my time smelling each of the teas and talking with the owner. The owner back in 2013 was passionate about her business and traveled the world finding teas and spices to share with people. My all-time favorite tea has become Maritime Mist. Every time I drink it, I am transported to my happy place (northern MI / by the water of the Great Lakes). Being land-locked in central IN is painful for a girl who grew up by water! All of the teas I've had cannot be compared to anything else typically found in stores. The quality of the ingredients is unparalleled. I am finishing up a container of Isle Royale Emerald green tea (purchased in October 2015 and opened about 5 weeks ago). This tea is phenomenal. I have trouble going back to regular green tea thanks to Isle Royal Emerald! The current owners and staff are all very friendly and more than happy to answer questions. If you're new to tea - the options in this store can be a bit overwhelming at first but rest assured ... you're in good hands here. I wish I could visit more than once a year! read more

Stopped in here for a bit today. They carry a lot of unique tea blends. I like that they carry loose leaf bags. The owner was there and she was very knowledgable and sweet. Would come back again for more tea. As soon as we got back to our place we made tea... YUMMY! read more

This shop is SO cute! I love spices and so I was immediately drawn in. Its front is open so it's really nice inside - you can feel the breeze. They carry exactly what it says here - tea and spices, and some related items (teapots, etc). I got to sample a few teas that they had out front, but I was really there for spices. I ended up buying a fancy salt and their signature "Sleeping Bear" blend, which smelled very nice. You can buy various sizes and each has a different container. Some had fancy glass containers, some were in plastic envelopes, and the ones I bought were in small tins, perfect for gifts. I also bought some for myself. The owner was super friendly. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is into cooking and/or tea. read more

I love their tea: Mackinaw Breeze, Persian Peach, Sweetwater Vanilla Earl Grey Lavender. For such a beautiful shop in Glen Arbor, I ask, 'why can't the new owners be open more?' I was up over Christmas '15 and they were only open 11-4 on Saturdays. I was not in town then. I can order online and pay the freight, but now the site is down for repair. I think the tea is better than Harney and Sons. I hope it remains so. Jan C. read more
