Ever have one of those hair disasters that makes you want to hide under a hat forever... but life doesn't exactly pause for a bad haircut? That was me. I had a corrective cut and color gone wrong, felt completely defeated, and then....because life has impeccable timing...I landed a dream job interview for the very next day!!! In a panic, I sent out a Yelp service request, and it connected me with Jody, who might as well be a literal angel....call it divine timing I guess?! She opened the salon door calm, collected, and completely confident while I walked in feeling embarrassed, defeated, and convinced my hair was beyond saving. Not only did she squeeze me in at the last minute, she willingly took on a corrective cut and corrective color that many stylists wouldn't touch!!! especially with zero notice! She never made me feel like it was impossible or I was a problem. She just got to work. Less than three hours later, mind you....never has my hair taken less than 3hrs for a normal color and cut, & somehow this woman literally transformed it! Watching someone operate at that level of skill is incredible. My mom was a hairdresser for years and always took clients at the house. Trust, I've seen a lot! There was no panic, no gimmicks, no upselling...just years of expertise, thoughtful decision-making, and genuine artistry. But what impressed me even more was who she is. Jody is honest. She's real. She has incredibly high standards without an ounce of ego. She listened, she was patient, and she worked with me despite my very tight budget because she knew I was trying to prepare for a life-changing interview. Since then, my friends and family haven't stopped telling me how much brighter and lighter I look. Not just my hair...but me!!! They keep saying I'm smiling with my whole face again and standing a little taller. And they're right! I walked into that interview today feeling like myself again confident, put together, and present. I crushed the it! Would that have happened without Jody? Maybe. I set an appointment with Jodi and arrived a little early. She was coloring another customers hair. In the meantime, Kaylee (sorry if I spelled that wrong), offered me a drink and then whisked me off to the hair wash sink. I swear, a good hair wash done by someone else is heavenly and better than therapy. Kaylee did an excellent job. She listened to me when I said I like it a little cold. The whole experience was spot on. Jodi has cut my hair before. I come from Hollywood to Oakland Park just to see Jodi. She knows her stuff. I rarely have to make a decision as in which direction to go. She has never steered me wrong. I always get a great cut that looks good on me. Booked for color/cut with Jody but got pawned off to Christina; which I didnt mind and I will say he is good with color and cut BUT - turns out it he didn't washout the products (not the best hair washer for sure) and since this visit I have suffered with incredible itchiness and my scalp was burned. Real upset. Got a reminder for a touch up and trying to cancel since I will NEVER return and the calls are not going through! Beware of this salon. i went on Tuesday, it was my first time. My appointment was for a keratin treatment and a haircut. Jody was wonderful. She was very professional and friendly. I went to the same woman for 15 years for my hair until she started having some medical issues. I eventually found a salon closer to home but after 2 haircuts, the new woman I was seeing needed to leave for personal reasons. I saw a new person at that salon earlier this year, but as nice as she was, she just didn't do the best job. I then found Great Looks Salon online and after 7 months of not getting a haircut, I decided to finally try a new salon out. When I called, it was very easy to make an appointment. Upon walking into the salon, I immediately felt at home. Jody is so kind, easy to talk to, and a master at her art. I also interacted with Mary and Christian, and they are both a delight to talk to as well. Jody really listened to what I wanted, was very respectful of my skin allergies, and was the first person to ever cut my hair with my natural texture in mind. I have very fine but wavy/curly hair and she cut it in a way that looks great if I blow dry or dry naturally. It has been a while since I left a salon feeling so beautiful. This was a very good experience having my color/roots and partial highlights done for which I was way overdue. I stopped by first to show Owner/Stylist Jody my hair and to get a price quote on what it would cost -- especially as my hair is long. And then to make my appointment with her. On the day of my appointment, we spent a bit of time "consulting" -- talking about what I liked and looking at actual color samples. She did my color/roots first. Then did the highlights afterwards. It was nice to have special attention, as the shop was not busy when I was there. I didn't get a toner or cut or a blowout -- which she also can/could do. But we did dry the bangs so my hair was not still dripping wet and I could see the contrast. Payment was easy -- exactly as quoted. And zip zap, I was on my way home. First I like to start off this review by saying that Jody is a star! She is funny, intelligent, and knows a lot about all different types of hair, she is extremely talented and I am very grateful for the work up she did with my hair! I came to her with long self-cut hair (thanks to the quarantine‍ don't do this lol) and semi colored hair (lots of brass-gross) I told her what I wanted, showed her pictures and she got to work right away~she is quick and self-sufficient. Initially I had reached out to several salons through Yelp but she was the only one who contacted me as fast as she did, and as many times as she did. It was late, I would have understood if no one cared at that time but she responded, and it was an actual response not one of those automated ones- you could tell right from the bat she was really trying to understand my needs, that won me over immediately! A must have now in days is how clean salons are, they are very clean during this COVID-19 reality, they sanitize after every client and wear masks which made me feel safe, all the while requiring others to keep in consideration the mask policy too! I love that, truly the only reason why I felt safe enough to come out. The salon is petite but perfect size, it's by appointment only which I actually like, it gives the time to each client what they are due. I love her collection of beautiful hair styles, she is magnificent, and her assistants such as Candy whom I had the pleasure to meet personally, are nothing short of sweethearts. Candy was such a delight, very encouraging and positive to be around, both Jody and Candy made me feel at ease especially because my experiences in the past have not been so great. Really the entire team was on point! I promised Jody I'd be back. Sadly I suffered a medical emergency right after my appointment and it's kept me down since (nothing related to my appointment) but I am so happy to finally have enough strength in me to write this review, I've been wanting to brag since I walked out, and to give my girl Jody a shout out! Honestly, I hope to come back soon once I am on my feet again, for a Brazilian blow out, needless to say her prices are some of the best in the neighborhood, without sacrificing quality, her products are the best, and reasonably priced. I had an appt for extensions to be put in on the sides of my hair only and I was quoted $100. The stylist put in 4 tape in extentions on each side of my head, a total of 8, 4 on each side. She cut them on the sides but didn't blend them in the back very well, she said that would be a full hair cut. I didn't want a full haircut, just to be blended nicely in the back. When I was paying the owner charged me $125 and told me that's because she had to "blend" them, I've never heard of anything so ridiculous, I've had Extentions in the past and never paid extra for "blending". I came to get my hair done this morning while in town visiting. I had a very narrow window of free time and did not expect to find someone available so close to the holiday. Jody was so kind to come in early, before opening to do my hair. She was very attentive towards what I wanted and took the time to make sure she understood my requests fully before working.
