The clasp on the chain had broken they replaced the clasp with a £0.95 pence clasp and did not give me back just over an 14g in gold they taken off... I did mark my bracelet and chain, my chain I did get back, my bracelet was not the same one that I had marked ... It was much thinner. they did polish it also to try and remove the markings - however mine is a thicker one as my marking would of never been removed ever it was permeant and in the bracelet... how silly can they be. I certainly don't recomend the place they charged me nearly £700 for a clasp repair of £10 and a repair to a chain. Have reported them for prosecution to trading standards, advertising standards agency and soon it will be police for theft. and to other agencies. I am highly disappointed in the place.

I have taken several things in to Cresta Gems for alteration two watches to have links taken out, and a ring to be re-sized and they have always been very helpful and very good value. As long as they are not too busy, you can often go back to collect the item on the same day. If you continue up the stairs there is a little showroom, where you can find a good selection of jewellery and watches. This is where the jeweller himself can also be found, and he will happily give advice and guidance if you would like a new piece of jewellery made, or an existing piece altered. Again, the prices for new jewellery are very reasonable.

I used to love going into this shop as a teenager as I could often buy earrings for a low price which were better quality than say if I got them from New Look. I have found their range to be a bit restricting now, with a lot of jewellery becoming a bit 'chavy'. The shop itself is of a great design. You walk in and look at the jewellery which is presented around the side of the shop in glass cabinets. You then take a form and fill out what you want (like Argos) and take it to the counter. They then fetch the item for you & you have the option of buying a presentation box.

I had a pair of earrings bought for me as a gift from H Samuel, but unfortunately I cannot wear…read moresilver as I have an allergy. Rather than ask my friend for the receipt, I had hoped that I could simply exchange them. The earrings were still sealed and in the box and I would have been happy to put more money towards a more expensive pair if needed. The shop was busy when I arrived, but I was greeted with a cheery "Can I 'elp yer darlin' " ? by a member of staff. I explained the situation and that I did not have the receipt as they were a gift. I was advised that "nothing could be done if the seal's been broken, darlin' ". I assured her that they were still sealed and presented the box to her. She examined them and then asked for the receipt. I explained (in simpler terms this time) that they were a gift, only to be told that "nothin' can be done wi'aht a receipt, cos we have to run the numbers through the til as proof of payment. Sorry darlin' ". I walked out of the shop. Are H Samuel really telling me that anyone who is bought a gift from them (especially over the Christmas period) is expected to produce a receipt if they want to exchange something that may not be suitable. And if nothing could be done without the receipt, why ask if the goods were still sealed ? I could understand it if I had been asking for a refund. Anyway, I will ask my friend for the receipt and I will be going back to this shop. But this time, I will ask for a refund and I will go to the jewellers opposite. I'll be avoiding H Samuel at all costs from now on. Darlin'.
