On average I work out 7+ times per week doing different exercise modalities. That type of activity on your body takes its toll. I used to get massages on a regular basis but fell off the massage wagon. A friend of mine highlighted that she has gotten massages once a month for the last 14 years. I was definitely behind the 8 ball on massages. My friend's long-term revelation was eye-opening, so I decided to get a massage today with Green Care Massage, which is located on W. Parmer, next door to Tomo Sushi. My massage choice was a deep tissue massage. Those polls are not for curtains!!! When my massage therapist asked me could she work on my back, I thought, I said yes. What she actually said was can I "walk" on your back. In my head, I was thinking why do her hands feel like feet...because they were feet! Snappity, snap, snap...I was getting a full on Ashiatsu massage (also known as back walking massage or barefoot massage). If you are not aware, Ashiatusu is a technique where the massage therapist uses their feet to apply deep pressure while holding onto overhead bars for balance and control. The word "Ashiatsu" is a Japanese word meaning (ashi=foot and atsu= pressure.) Apparently, my back was so tight I needed Ashiatsu first. My massage beginning to end was incredibly effective and rejuvenating experience. From the moment the session began, it was clear the massage therapist was highly skilled and knew her craft. The deep, slow strokes and focused techniques worked through my knots and tight muscles, especially in my back and legs. While there were moments of intensity that you would expect with deep tissue work, it was never painful (pressure...no pain). Afterward my body felt like it had exhaled and breathing fresh air.... well worth the time and money. I could feel the tension evaporating with each targeted movement. It is important note, I felt soreness in my neck and back during the massage that I did know existed previously. After the massage session, I noticed a significant improvement in my mobility and range of motion. My usual stiffness had disappeared. I do not know if I will get a massage once a month, but I certainly will not wait too long before another one. read more

Worse massage ever!!! - i specifically asked for a deep tissue. I kept on asking her to make it deep. She just kept on rubbing oil but not massaging much less deep tissue. The room was way too cold, when I told her she turned up the temp of the bed but my feet were still cold, it was just uncomfortable. The rocks were way too hot, they were burning when she put them in my back. The massage table was horrible. I kept on having to move bc my forehead was hurting. On the check out, the credit card tip was only set to 35% ir higher unless you customize. Do NOT go there. It's a waste of money and time read more

Had a wonderful massage, only thing was it was interrupted about 3x and it started late and ended few mins early. That wasn't fair. Regardless of the time I show up it should still end in the allotted payment. I pre tipped as well. But the woman was nice. I think the interruption was the main issue for me. What an amazing experience. I booked online ahead of time, as soon as I came in they were ready for me. The massage was thorough and exactly what I needed. My massage therapist, Lynn, checked in frequently to make sure the pressure was okay, and she did an incredible job. I came in a bunch of knots after a recent marathon, and left feeling 2 inches taller. The space is clean, welcoming, calming, and I felt so comfortable the entire time. I love this place. It's very no frills; you won't be greeted with gentle spa music and cucumber water and someone talking to you in a whispery tone. You WILL be quickly ushered down a dark hallway to a plain room and given 1 minute to undress before they come back in. In return though, every person that works here has hands like steel traps that will unleash any and all tension you've ever had in any lifetime. I had to pause mid-massage just to tell the masseuse that she was the strongest person I'd ever met lol (I want to say her name was Ilene?). Been coming here since I moved to Austin in September and I don't know if I'll ever go anywhere else. If you are looking for somewhere for aesthetics, this is likely not the place for you. While they might not be the most "luxurious" spa, they do a wonderful job. I can feel the knots leaving my body and I am beyond relaxed after leaving. They were able to accommodate my walk in, which was really nice. I began the massage, was immediately asked about the pressure. I asked for it to be deeper. The masseuse then said challenge accepted and proceeded to whoop my ass the whole time. It had to be one of the most necessarily painful massages I've ever had. I am coming off an injury and had lots of tension in my shoulders, so there were really deep knots she was able to knead out. After the massage I was able to sleep like a baby. My rating is not against my therapist. I asked for a Swedish style massage (more relaxation) and I specifically asked for my therapist to use medium pressure and help relax the muscles. She did a nice enough job (was a little uninterested and seemed to just be going through the motions IMO), and her style of massage was not what I would expect for what I paid. The reason for the three stars based on what I am used to is the pricing. I am not a cheap person. I called ahead and knew going in to the massage that a 90 minute massage would be $110. I live in Houston and my usual reflexology place (nice business near the heart of the city) charges $90 for a 90 minute massage with an excellent therapist who really works the body and does a fantastic job. The massage was over, it was a nice enough massage (not one that would make me want to come back again), and I go to pay. Not only is the massage $110, but I am also charged a 3% fee for using a credit card. That fee IMO IS ridiculous and should be included in the $110. This is my opinion without any knowledge of what it takes to run a successful massage therapy business. All in all and for the quality of the massage for the price charged, I personally will look elsewhere should I need a massage on my next visit to the Austin area. Total cost with tip was $144.20 including the 3% credit card surcharge. Or course if I would have brought cash or used my debit card that fee would have been waived. PS: I tipped my therapist $30 because she did a nice enough job and seemed like a kind person. UPDATE: The owner (I assume) called and explained in detail her reasoning for the pricing and why the credit card surcharge was applied. She was very nice and seemed sincere in wanting to make me feel like I received the quality in what I paid for. I appreciate the sincerity and for her reaching out to personally address my concerns. My wife booked a one hour massage for me for my birthday and she scheduled one for herself at the same time. We showed up 10min early to be sure we were on time. After being shown to the room where we disrobed and got under the covers to wait for the massage.....it never came. After lying waiting for 10min, my wife who is the patient one out of the two of us said she was leaving. We both got dressed and left. The front desk lady followed us out into the parking lot, apologizing and offering free massages but at that point neither I nor my wife were interested. Green Care Massage today managed to lose money and lose two potential future customers while also making my wife feel bad about her present to me. Both my husband and I got massages here this past weekend, if I could give them 6 stars I would! This massage was AMAZING. The masseuses were very sweet and attentive. They really took what we put on our intake form to heart and gave us exactly what we requested. They aren't a spa so the add on list wasn't extremely extensive, but honestly I didn't care.
