Their ingredients and recipes are GREAT! Now if they could send me all of the ingredients, or, most recently, the right ingredients, I'd give them 5 stars. But I have complained about this issue numerous times (yes, I've been missing ingredients numerous times), yet I always get the same reply: they will alert the proper team. Frankly I think this problem needs to be escalated*. I order Green Chef every week and I'm on the verge of quitting because of this missing/wrong ingredient problem. This week was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back: they sent an entirely wrong set of ingredients for a meal we did not order, but LABELED as the meal we did order. WHAT? If you count on them for meals, it is TERRIBLY annoying to have missing or completely wrong ingredient, especially when they are ingredients that we can't just run out and get locally. I know good help is hard to find, but they need to train better or try harder to find better help. Green Chef's "organic" ground beef is greasy and doesn't meat my expectations. But Whole Foods, Aldi and Kroger also sell ground beef labeled organic that isn't. This company somehow stole & fraudulently obtained one of my credit cards because I viewed their site. They then sent & billed my credit card for 6 meals. I was called by the homeowner at my last address from 6 years ago who let me know this company was sending meals to their house. I called the company & they only agreed to credit the last two deliveries although I had never ordered their product or shared my credit card number with them. I had to call my credit card company and file a dispute for the four charges they would not credit plus file a fraud complaint. This is theft as far as I am concerned. I have generally liked Green Chef for some of the variety of foods they offer and have complained from time to time when ingredients that I normally don't keep at home are missing from my order. It can definitely be aggravating.. I've complained about the quality control and Green Chef has always refunded those meals with missing ingredients. However, this topped it all. How do you allow cauliflower to be cut then individually packaged without noticing this. I saw the bug even before I opened the bag. Somebody should've seen this before it got packaged and sent to me. Quite disgusting. I went on the website because I thought the meals would come to me prepared. They make you give them you credit card info up front before you can even get to look at the meals. Once I provided my information and got to the second stage before selecting meals I noticed that I'd need to prepare the meals myself, so I CANCELED immediately. After realizing that this was not for me, I tried to back out of everything and insure I did not order anything. Then I got a notification of shipping - and it was a meal that contained items to which I was allergic. I'm going to start with the lack of customer service. I was on the phone waiting to be helped for a hour before giving up. I spent that time on the chat waiting for my live agent that never arrived. I skipped a week, they sent me a box anyway and charged me for it, and I was unable to get a refund. It rotted on my porch as I was away. As for the quality of food - it's nothing special. The seasonings and sauces are bland. And the recipes call for using around 3-5 pots/pans/baking sheets per recipe. This neither saved time, did NOT help with cleanup, and the calorie count is deceptive as it is calculated by serving. Everything was more fattening, more expensive, I got a very underripe tomato with mold already on it... It's more of a scam than anything else. Green Chef is a con. I clicked their advert, entered my details, and they quoted me £3.89 per meal for 2 people, 3 days a week - 6 meals total. That's the only reason I agreed. The second I accepted their smug "cancel anytime up to 5 days before delivery" line, I saw the real price -- over £6 per meal. That's NOT what I agreed to. This is bait-and-switch, plain and simple. When I immediately tried to cancel (first delivery still 9 days away), they wouldn't let me. I'm now forced to pay over £40 for something I did not consent to. I could only cancel future deliveries, not this first one. This is false advertising, manipulation, and theft dressed up as a subscription service. Could have been better - a lot better. After giving this a try once school started to help us get on a healthy dinner routine I cancelled after a few months. On a regular basis we had missing meat portions. On a regular basis we had moldy, and/or wilted produce. Sometimes I would contact the company ( if I was able to take a photo to support my claim for example) but wasn't given any kind of compensation/reimbursement. Very disappointing. My mother received 3 meals as a Christmas gift. She has mobility issues, can't stand long, and eats vegetarian, and organic, so it was thought this would help her make some easy meals with the food already prepped. She received 3 bags, one of which was significantly smaller than the others. When we sorted through the bags and recipe cards, we found the small bag was missing the main foundational ingredient. I suppose that will happen on occasion, but since she has mobility issues, getting the ingredients before the rest spoil isn't a simple task. I called Customer Service for her, and they said they would refund the cost of the ingredient, which would go to the gift giver's credit card, but means the meal is wasted, unless we go out to buy the needed ingredients. Green Chef would not resend the item, or a whole new fresh meal, stating they only ship once a week, and the items are secured the week before. I'm not satisfied with their resolution for not delivering what was ordered. I helped her make one of the other meals. It took two of us an hour to make. It wasn't a simple meal, and required many pots and pans, and much clean-up work. So, it did not simplify meals (other than some of the items were already chopped -- not all). That said, the one meal we did prepare was very tasty, and if it was all organic, than we were happy with the meal we were able to make, and tried some new ingredients (farro). Because we did not received all items, we would hesitate to start a subscription, as well as for the fact that it did take significant effort to make the meal, so we could find recipes and buy the ingredients ourselves, at a lower cost with almost the same effort. But, if looking for new meal ideas, have trouble with chopping, have no time to grocery shop, are interested in organic food,.... it might be worth a try. We are just not happy being out a meal that was paid for, without having to go out shopping for the missing ingredients before the rest of the ingredients go bad, at an additional time and expense to us, with no compensation, other than the gift giver is given a minor refund for the missing ingredient cost. I have received two orders with three meals included. Both times, my order was packaged, sat in their facility in Aurora Colorado for 2 days, shipped by FedEx which took three days because it was "delayed" both times and arrived warm. Had to throw out two of the three meals each time. Contacted them the first fiasco and they refunded my account and assured me the meals were guaranteed for 48 hours AFTER delivery. That means 7 days in packaging and you would have to make all three meals in 24 hours! No idea how they store them in Colorado but they are not being transported in refrigerated trucks and the cold packs are toast by the time they arrive. Second box arrived yesterday, warm, and am trying to talk to someone in the US. A "request" has been submitted by someone in Asia and I will be contacted in 24-48 hours. I really like the meal choices and want this to work but feel you must live 20 miles from the facility to receive quality food. I fell for an online ad, and regret it. I should have read more reviews before trying Green Chef. I joined with a FB promo to get the first few boxes at a discounted rate. I received one box that was a week late and spoiled, so we could not eat it. Green Chef would not refund the box, but instead gave me a credit. Sounds great, except they won't let me apply it to any discounted boxes. I have to wait until over a month from now to use it. And, their customer service is terrible. They don't have a clue. Each time I've contacted them, they ask how I'm enjoying my food, and ask me to give them a 5 star review. Ha! Oh, and as of today, I still haven't received my second box (due yesterday). I chugged through two weeks of of delivery before I called it quits. I opted to try both the plant based and balanced selections from the regular menu. Most recipes were -- OK, 6/10, but I wasn't in love with any ? For example, The chickpea salad sandwiches were a different twist than I was used to making (feta and cranberries) while the roasted cauliflour was bland and every thing had kaaaale. Listen, I love my kale but I don't need to eat it 3x a week. I kept 2 out of the 6 recipie cards. The quality of ingredients was dissapointing. I had to substitute numerous vegetables with what was in my fridge because the items either arrived rotten, or quickly went that way. When purchasing boxes they advertise their food to be all natural, ORGANIC, non GMO and all the right buzzwords. However, I recieved lower quality items than anticipated and perhaps 1-3 ingredients out of the whole recipe were organic. I don't recall any of the meat being organic either. I could easily buy full organic meals and get them shipped from Whole Food for less $. For the increased price of the meals, it was absurd. I would definitely not recommend this food delivery service. 1. The number one reason is they do not send out a reminder email before shipping so you can change your order. Life is busy and I don't always think about automatically going to their website to see what is being shipped that week. I have used another company for several years and they always sent me a reminder. I ended up getting menus that I never would have ordered and for the price this was just not OK and a simple fix if they cared to do so. 2. I was under the impression this was an organic company but only parts are organic so shop carefully! 3. After two or three days in the refrigerator the vegetables were definitely past their freshness and had to discard quite a bit. 4. Vegetables also had a very scant portion size. There was an issue with the refund so I called back and spoke with another representative he was extremely rude and advised the other representative should never have issued a refund. I received no text or email that it was coming. I apparently had green chef paused for months (thought I had cancelled but probably just paused because they make it a pain to cancel-you have to access on a computer, not a mobile device) and then saw I had a charge on my credit card this morning. I immediately called but they were "unable" to cancel that box. Which is really silly when it was just charged. And all they were able to do was give me half credit on a future box. Not even an actual refund. So I either need to find a neighbor to use the food or have it rot on my porch while I'm away. And I will pay for it either way. And they get half off on a future box. Was looking to try a food service advertised as healthy as I'm trying to seek some better options. I ended up trying out Green Chef and after only 2 boxes I am ready to run away and actually canceled just now. Let me break it down: Delivery Delivery came generally on the day it was supposed to, and in good shape. The emails/notifications were severely delayed, so they were useless. Trying to track your box is also a joke because my box arrived before it was even trackable. No delivery notification when the box is delivered (I got my delivery notification next day, haha)... Both days my box was delivered, any previously frozen ingredients (meats and/or fish) were still frozen so could not be used for dinner same-day without taking time to thaw them. Rating delivery a 2/5. Ingredients This company prides itself on being "certified organic" but you wouldn't know it from the box and ingredients themselves. I received meats and other ingredients clearly labeled Hello Fresh which is not organic. The meats were plain jane and NOT organic. What's worse, this company uses farmed fish with artificial dyes. I received some farmed salmon and it did not specify the country of origin; isn't that against some regulation or law? A lot of the ingredients were pretty small also, for example, a baby sweet potato (so cute) meant that portion sizes were also very small (not cute!). Overall, ingredients were fresh (which is the expectation) but very lackluster. My 2nd (and final) box came without recipe cards. The solve there is to use your phone. Trust me, not fun handling slimy salmon and scrolling your phone. 1/5 for Ingredients. Recipes You pick your own recipes, and the selection is fair. However there is a lot of similarities. The recipes were kind of like "1000 ways to make chicken stir fry" with a couple random others thrown in (like a salmon dish or something different like egg roll soup). Overall the recipes leave a bit to be desired, at least in my experience. Not terrible but not terribly original, either. In the end the recipe cards were useless, because every recipe is about the same: Throw all the ingredients in a pan and cook. 2/5 for Recipes. Overall Dish Quality/Results In the end the dishes have the taste, appearance, etc of an Applebee's dish. These meal kits are far from "cooking". I felt like my job was to unwrap dozens of plastic things and throw things in a pan for 20 minutes. There is a very small amount of prep work to be done. The most complex recipes may ask you to bake something for 20 minutes while you saute something else. 2/5 for Quality/Results. Sustainability This is where I was most shocked. Even ingredients such as garlic are wrapped in plastic. EVERYTHING is wrapped in plastic, then wrapped in a paper bag (1 for each meal), then sealed with a sticker, then boxed in a cardboard box, with more cardboard insulation, with 2 giant ice packs which are also bagged in plastic. It's like the entire thing is either bagged or packaged in some way 6 times. I've tried other meal kits in the past where there is much LESS packaging. Seriously, 2 cloves of garlic don't need to be shrink wrapped. I do not think this box is good for the planet. Rating -99/5 for sustainability. Customer Service I reached out to customer service to inquire about the ingredients that were not organic and let them know they are missing recipe cards. 1st attempt at customer service was a fail as I was kicked off the chat waiting for a response. I was able to see it, but somehow disconnected for inactivity, where the representative was copy/pasting saying don't worry, the ingredients are organic. Attempted to re-chat and got someone who said something like, "when organic ingredients are not available we carefully select quality non-organic ingredients as a replacement". Not too impressed with customer service, but also nothing to really complain about. I did not get any refund/credit nor was I expecting one as I already canceled. 3/5. Value The box I chose is over $100 a week regular price, which is a LOT for what you're getting. How does this company stay in business? To me and our recent experience, it's a scam. After some of its ads on my online feed, I researched it --- "sustainable, everything recyclable, various plans (Keto, veggie, vegan, mediterranean, etc.). Discount on your first box and more." Sounded OK. I've tried a couple of boxed meal plans years ago (neither of which worked for me --- more work than cooking from scratch in my own kitchen) but at least THOSE two plans allowed me to research the recipes, before I paid for it. Green Chef takes your credit card first, to allow you on their website. I started researching the meals and the plan and all the ingredients. It did not work for our restricted diets, due to CKD. The sodium and potassium count was way too high for our diets. I CANCELLED IMMEDIATELY, expecting I'd not be charged and would get no order. What do they do? They sent me a huge box of what they call "healthy food" 5 days later. What? I never ordered anything. All I did is research their menus and Nutrition Labels and cancel immediately!!! The box sat on my porch for hours (it seems) as I didn't expect it and they did not notify me it was there. Dripping all over the place by the time I found it. We're stuck now, with a full refrigerator of "stuff" that THEY chose, I did not order and we cannot eat. I tried to make "something" out of their "Middle Eastern-Style Chickpea Bowls" last night. It was ridiculous. Plastic everywhere. A teensy green onion that was half-wilted (supposedly the garnish). I had to throw away several ingredients, as they are not on our diet and they didn't look good. I see there is a picture on Yelp of the purple carrot, with white inside. Purple carrots are not supposed to look like that. Not the ones I buy at a local organic market. Obviously --- the picture on their menu list (of this Middle Eastern Chickpea dish) looks nothing like what they sent. Also, with 1360mgs of sodium, a kidney patient can't eat it. We will open another of their large packages today (that I never ordered) and see what next mess --- and more plastic --- awaits us. Ugh. Meals (that we could eat) were very tasty, but customer service was terrible. When we first signed up, there was only the ability to choose one dietary preference, so we marked gluten-free, which I need. But my boyfriend and I are also pescatarian. We tried to stay on top of choosing our meals by our weekly deadline, but one week we missed it by a day and ended up receiving 3 meals with pork and chicken the following week. We knew it was our mistake so we gave our meals to my sister and her family to enjoy. My boyfriend wrote to the company and asked about a way to choose more than one dietary option. The response he got was the issue would be checked on and Green Chef would get back to us. We never received a response (Although it does look like they updated their website now so you can choose more than one dietary option. We just happened to see that.) We then chose our meals for the following week, earlier than the deadline. But we again received meals with meat in them. When my boyfriend called customer service to tell them what happened, but there was no resolution offered, not even a refund. So he ended up canceling. After that I wrote an email to customer service explaining our situation and expressing the disappointment in the resolution of the situation. The first rep asked for details about our account so that he could better investigate and resolve our issue. I provided that information. After several days, I wrote again asking for updates. I then received an email from a different rep saying that the cancelation of our account is confirmed. I wrote back saying that was not our issue. We knew our account was canceled, but our main issue was not resolved. It's been a few days again, and no response. Also, in the most recent response from the second rep, the company name Factor was in the email, and Green Chef as well. So I'm guessing the same reps are working for both/multiple companies and are using template emails and missed changing the name in one spot. When there was an issue with our orders and our account, there was no adequate response/resolution. The food box was sweaty along with the individual bags of vegetables/dry ingredients, which were moldy, and less than fresh. The ice packs were completely thawed out and warm to touch. The packages of raw chicken and ground turkey meat were warm to the touch as though they had not been kept cold at all during shipping. Everything in the box was exposed to the fluids from the ruptured raw chicken package. I thought this meal service was going to be great. I thought since it claims to be "organic" or they try to be that the produce would be good. Let me tell you, the meals aren't that great..hello fresh and purple carrot was way better (the only other 2 I've tried). I wanted to try something new so I went with green chef. I kept them a month and gave up. My produce was always bad, at least 1 or two things, the tomatoes were a joke, either bad or part green like they were never red??? The tomato's I got didn't even taste like tomatoes. I don't know.. I wasn't happy and I'd never go back to this service. Started out very good (minor issues) and was loving the keto options, but then slowly and consistently declined. Produce sometimes received wilted with brown edges, withered lettuce and kale, dried up tomatoes, missing items, no recipe cards, late or even worse - they'll completely cancel boxes. But today's box was the worst - brown smiley green beans and rotten tomatoes (see photo). When I asked to be refunded was told they'd give me $23 for the produce only. The meal cost $48 for four but was unable to make it without a trip to the store at 7p night now. They refused to give me a refund or at least a credit for the meal despite my threat to cancel my account and write this review.
