My 15 month old has big stranger danger, even with family, but after just one week at Green Day Care, she doesn't cry at drop offs and doesn't want to leave sometimes at pickup! She loves it there. Tsering's daycare is wonderful. First, the features: great hours, clean and thoughtful indoor space, large outdoor play area, wide variety of activities, healthy snacks, and fair price. What really sets Green Day Care apart for me though is the heart that Tsering puts into everything she does. She's always considering how to make her space (even) more enriching for the kids, and she clearly thinks through how to foster each child's individual growth. I can't list off everything my son learned while he was there, but suffice to say he learned a lot. Perhaps most importantly, I credit Tsering with teaching my son how to communicate with and respect others, a skill so important (and tricky to teach) in this age range. Our first kid had brain surgery right before entering day care. They had trouble moving and speaking and socializing with the other kids. But Tsering took excellent care of him. We could relax knowing he was being included and loved while we were at work. Now he is 6 and we still look at the photo albums from Green Day Care and talk about Tsering. Leaving a review for Tsering is extremely difficult as there is really no way to convey how absolutely amazing she is and how fortunate we are to have her as a caregiver for our daughter. She usually has children ages 1-3 years, and we were lucky enough to find Tsering around our daughter's first birthday last year. She loves going to Tsering's and talks about her constantly. We have learned so many new songs! We are first-time parents and were very nervous about childcare. We toured a few daycares around the area, but as soon as we walked into Tsering's beautiful setup we were instantly clamoring to give Tsering a deposit to hold a spot for us! Tsering's parenting style closely parallels our own. She serves healthy organic snacks and milk (you provide main meals) and has the day centered around playing and reading. There is no daily TV in the routine! The kids are all well-adjusted, and Tsering has helped both our daughter and us through some of the more difficult milestones (teething, naps, etc). There's a lot going on in the world right now. Tsering has helped keep normalcy in our lives and a laughing smile on our daughter's face. Her hours and capacity are temporarily reduced right now, but as of this review she has spots open. I would like to start by saying how grateful I am to Tsering, Jampa, and Jessica. They have created an environment that is clean, loving, kind, and fun. My son loves going to daycare every day where he can play and interact with children in a similar age group. There is a lot of diversity among the children which is another positive. Tsering is amazingly calm, warm, and loving with all of the children and very supportive of the families as well. She makes each kid feel special for their birthday or if it's their last day before preschool. Every holiday is celebrated with decorations and cool art projects. I got the best feeling from her the first time that I met her. I know that he is well taken care of and loved when we are not with him. My family is moving and I don't think that we will ever be able to find what we have found with Tsering. We knew we were lucky to have found a spot with Green Day Care from the moment we saw the place. Tsering and Green Day Care have truly been a blessing to our family. For two years now, Tsering and her team of loving, qualified caregivers have raised our daughter while we are at work and for this we are forever grateful. Tsering has literally been like a family member to us and the effect is amazing on us but, especially our child - Tsering's thoughtful, careful and thorough approach to meeting a child's needs are skills not natural to most people and as a result, our daughter has now taken on many of those traits which has been the best part - Green Day Care has helped shape our child into being the empathetic, life-loving, creative that she is. Other notables are the healthy snacks they serve, the daily report card every child goes home with that highlights the food they ate, how long they napped, how many times they went potty, etc. Great information. The schoolroom is always immaculate, the play areas are safe, fully stocked with fun stuff to play with and by the end of the day, none of the kids ever seem in a hurry to leave. It is a fun, learning environment. Our daughter learned countless important lessons here. I would say that the icing on the cake here is the well balanced group of families who send their kids to Green Day Care. I don't even know where to start with this review. Tsering and her husband Jampa have been the biggest blessing in our lives these past 2 years, and there will be many tears shed when my son starts preschool next month. In short, they have been like family. They have loved my son like their own and been the best stand-ins for my husband and I that I could have ever asked for. I'll never forget the stress I felt as a new mom, juggling work and trying to afford our private nanny, and how long I resisted the idea of leaving him with strangers for 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. I never wanted to be a working mom so this was a very tough pill to swallow. The moment I walked into Green Daycare, I felt such a sense of relief and belonging. My son fit right in and was instantly comfortable there. He never once cried for me!! Tsering's parenting philosophies have been so in line with mine. Gentle, nurturing and loving in all ways while having just the right amount of structure. She has taught my son manners, compassion (they all know that spiders and bugs "have their own life" and get escorted outside instead of squished), how to clean up after himself (even at home he picks up his toys singing "cleean up, cleeaan up, everyone, let's do our share") in addition to the non-forced, fun and play-centered education. He knows all of his colors, numbers, letters, opposites, and more songs than I could ever remember all the words to! He constantly comes home singing new songs and sharing things he has learned there. I never wanted him to be in an environment that was too "academic" but it's SO not like that. They just incorporate learning into the songs and silly things they do and they have a blast doing it. Tsering reads to the kids every morning, leads arts & crafts, hosts a very sweet birthday celebration for everyone where she decorates the room, and even creates a photo book every holiday season for the parents which is such a treasure. They do stretches and yoga poses and lots of healthy movement. Tsering takes her role very seriously and is continuously learning how to do things better. I love the location, the inside room is so cozy and colorful, and the outside has a nice new deck and grassy area that they spend lots of time on. I love that there's NO TV (they have one, but it only gets used VERY minimally on heavy rainy days when they are stuck inside and restless. The rest of the time it's actually removed from the room!). They never fail to put on sunscreen and have been so patient with his potty training. The facility is SPOTLESS and they work so hard to clean and tidy every surface inside and out each morning and night. One thing I must mention is that my family is vegan, and that we have a special water filter at home that we fill his water bottle with each day. Tsering has been SO respectful of our choices and has worked so very hard to keep his food separate from other kids' food, and to fill his water bottle with the water we provide. I am sure that other daycares would not have so much respect for this stuff, but Tsering really cares and has done such a good job of helping our son not feel different from the other kids just because of his diet. I can't possibly tell you how much that means to me. Being a full-time working (older, tired) mama, I have really appreciated Tsering's guidance for things like when to upgrade to bigger diapers (and eventually to pull-ups), when to start encouraging potty training, when he needed a bigger water bottle, when to phase out the binky, etc. I honestly don't know what I would have done without this support over the past 2 years. Obviously I would have figured things out on my own eventually, but she saved me a lot of headache by always being one step ahead of me. The best part of all is that because I'm so busy, I didn't have a lot of time to visit daycares in my search. Green Daycare was one of the first calls I made, and she happened to have a spot open for my 1-year old. The rest is history, and I could not feel more lucky. Tsering and Jampa are warm, intentional, selfless and humble and the kind of people you would want on your side in times of trouble (if a parent got a flat tire or was stranded, they would never hesitate to help out). They are always looking to ways to improve their home to make it as nice as possible for the daycare (re-paving the driveway, rebuilding a gate, painting, etc.) Even their neighbors are so nice. Prior to moving to the East Bay from San Francisco, our son was cared for exclusively by family and our loving nanny. After moving, we decided that our almost 2 year-old was ready for more socialization. I called and looked at close to 15 centers! When I found Green Day Care, I shed a few tears quietly - this was our place, I knew it. The children were happy and at ease. Tsering and the care providers clearly care deeply for their charges, and guide them with firm, loving directions. They have a big beautiful indoor and outdoor space. The area is tidy and contains a host of toys and books, and most importantly - trains! The kids are free to be inside or out, participate in story time, sing songs, and make art. We have been with Green Day Care for about 8 months now, and plan to stay until my son enters preschool next fall. These past few months, my son has surprised me with the volume of nursery rhymes he knows by heart. He has also grown his skills in sharing, communicating needs, and using the potty! My daughter loves Tsering and her wonderful daycare. We have been going to Green Daycare 2-3 days per week for the past 2 years and I could not be happier with our experience! Tsering provides a safe and healthy environment for the children to learn and interact with each other. The class is typically no more than 10 kids to 2-3 professional and energetic carers, with a focus on English language, arts and crafts and playground activities. A well-equipped play yard is on site and they regularly take all of the kids on little field trips to the local parks. Green Day Care is the dream place you can get in the East Bay for your little one - loving, happy, safe, clean, cozy, fair, peaceful. For my son, it is his second home. I have the absolute right and knowledge to say that since my son has been attending there for almost 3 years. The owners are a very genuine couple with extensive experience in childcare. They LOVE each child under their care. You will feel that instantly if you have a chance to meet them. Kids are always the priority at Green Day Care. It often has a ratio of 3 (adults) to 8 (kids), which cannot be found anywhere else. Green Day Care has a wonderful schedule full of fun activities for kids of different ages. A day is usually started by reading and singing. My son has formed a good habit of loving reading books after being nurtured in Green Day Care. He surprised me by 'reading' (reciting actually) the whole Mother Goose Treasury book (more than 150 pages) before he turned to 3. Green Day Care has a beautiful, large, quiet, and cheerful backyard full of age-appropriate trikes, toys, slides, water play, tunnels, etc. It is recently remodeled half-paved half-lawned to accommodate different activities. The indoor space is also large and cozy with tons of toys and books. There is another shaded balcony area for kids to play and refresh. Everything is cleaned well and organized everyday. Toys and books are regularly rotated and replaced with new ones. Green Day Care has constantly put great efforts to improve its environment to keep kids interested and engaged over the years. Our son has less than a year before he transitions into pre-school, and that day will be a sad day for all of us. Why? Because leaving Tsering, Dolma, and Tenzin will be like leaving family. We looked at a bunch of day care providers, and when we walked into Green Day Care, we knew this was our place. The house is spotless, the play stations inviting (and NO TV!)...they have tons of activities, books, puzzles, and a wonderful backyard play space. But most important, our son feels comfortable here. The care he gets is whole-hearted and genuine. There is nothing better as a father than picking up your child after a long day at work to have him run to you with open arms, but even better is when he tells you he's not ready to go home because he's having so much fun. Our family is grateful finding Green Daycare and I would recommend this daycare if anyone is looking for one. Our daughter has been with Green Daycare for about a year now and it's her home away home. When I first met Tsering, the owner, I knew my daughter would love her. I still remember the first day...my shy daughter was instantly comfortable with Tsering and the environment which is always filled with natural light, clean and organized. We have many things we love about the daycare and here are some: - the owners and all the caregivers are very nurturing, patient and care deeply for the children - great child-adult ratio - both indoor and outdoor space is spacious (outdoor space had big improvements just within a year...when we started I thought it was perfect already but since then they expanded the wooden deck are for rainy days's play, concrete area was expanded for the children can enjoy riding trikes more, and beautiful lawn was put which is nice and soft on the little ones' feet) - entire space is clean, safe and it's equipped with age appropriate toys, books, trikes, slide/tunnel structures and dome climber (I am always amazed by how much children here can do by themselves or with assistance and guidance!) - a lot of reading and music circle time (my daughter started here with no interest in books, but now she loves books! She also loves singing and dancing thanks to Tsering!) - art project almost every day - healthy snacks in the morning and afternoon - variety of fruits, cheese, crackers, organic milk are provided (since we have a long drive going home, Tsering even make sure we have enough milk on our way home!), - very clean (ok...this is third time I mention about this...but my daughter got sick only twice since she started, and I believe it's because how clean they maintain the environment with kids friendly products). We were so relieved to find Green day care after having visited a few family-based day cares in the area. Tsering and her husband have lovingly created a dedicated space for the children in their care, that is spacious, brightly lit and always kept uncluttered and clean. The children have direct access to a large backyard, filled with toys, where they play freely on sunny days, and a wooden deck used on wetter days. We are also quite happy with the care that our daughter receives at Green day care. Tsering and her assistant Dolma are very patient and attentive to our daughter's needs, making sure that she eats her lunch and lending her warmer clothes if she arrives unprepared for unexpectedly cold days. They started her potty training which made it so much easier for us to continue at home. We are continuously surprised by the new words and songs that she repeats to us when she gets home. We are grateful to have found a place where we know we can safely leave our daughter for the day and come back to a happy child who affectionately hugs everybody before going home. read more
