The branch along Dona Soledad Avenue in Better Living Subdivision, Paranaque City is no different. The place not only sells all types of meats, but pre-cooked dishes as well. An all-time favourite is their embutido which must be a top seller because they sometimes run out of this meatloaf. You can steam it or fry it for a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner. They call it a meatshop plus because they also sell all kinds of stuff, from ketchup to toyo and patis. Soft drinks and juices are available too. Like all branches of this chain, the place is kept spotlessly clean. This must be a requirement to own and maintain a franchise. You can get your meat supply fresh or frozen. They're all good. I give this place five stars because I know anything I buy there has passed all quality controls, and then some.

The Meat Depot is actually a discount meat store offering cooking service so keep your expectations to a minimum. There are two kinds of storage inside, the chiller where you pick the meat you'd like cooked and eaten inside and the freezer where you can shop and pay for discounted meat. We ordered Wagyu, T-Bone, Angus, Tapa, Pork Chop and Liempo and the only thing we liked was the pork chop. Everything else tasted meh. One of my friend even commented her mom cooks steak better and I agree. There's nothing special about the way they cook steak. I'd love to write more but that's about it. I'm actually quite disappointed because I heard a lot of good things about the place. Somebody who had been here before said the steak tasted better but she said it wasn't as good as she remembered it.

They have the most spacious and airy grocery layout in the Alabang -- layout is straightforward and easy to navigate, aisles are spaced out and do not feel cramped and cluttered. Their meat and produce selection is excellent and priced fairly. Most common brands and products are available. They have a small alcoholic beverage selection and natural/organic section too. Compared to other groceries in the area, their cashiers and baggers are faster and more efficient when ringing up items and bagging them. Long lines are managed properly. Parking can be quite tricky especially during peak times but overall it isn't too bad and if you purchase a minimum of Php 300 (or is it 500? Suddenly I can't remember whoops), parking is free for a few hours.

A variety of dressings (balsamic, strawberry vinaigrette, caesar, thousand island...) 5. AND a variety of plastic containers, so you always get just the *right* size for your salad needs. Everything is weighed by the kilo, and it's not usually going to be that expensive. I've loaded the biggest containers here and it did not cost me over Php 200. TIP: If something needs refilling, do talk to the staff. Most of the time they will refill it for you. They also have some ready made salads like fruit and cream and russian potato salad.

Still, the basics are widely available so basic grocery needs are easily satisfied. If you're passing by in the late afternoon, the outer display offers large and satisfying banana-cue that is great for snacking (and is of more certain provenance than the street-sourced variety). What makes this Monterey Meatshop different from the one I always go to, is that this one has more vegetables for sale. And the shelves are full of vegetables in the morning. It's always fresh and at reasonable prices too. There are fewer staff here so it gets pretty slow when there are lots of people. You do have to remind them about your order and how you'd like them to cut it. But overall, their service is still good.

Don't get me wrong, this place is really convenient for those who live in the area. They have meat (obviously), vegetables, cooking oil, herbs, noodles, different sauces and ice cream. (I only go for the ice cream.) If you're a senior citizen (like my mom), don't worry if you forgot your senior citizen ID. They have all the senior citizens who live in the area and frequent the shop fill up a form. The cashier will just ask you for your last name, does some math and you get your discount. Another great thing about this little shop is that they accept all major credit cards. Don't have a credit card? You can use your ATM or debit card. Sorry, they don't make 'pa-utang' or 'pa-lista' though. Oh, and they accept reservations! Last Christmas, we needed chicken to make relleno. They didn't have any that day, but they said if you put in an order the day before you need it (your chicken or meat), they'd have it for you the next day.

This is a deli that sells specialty goods alongside reasonably priced staples: juices, salsa balsamica, riso carnaroli, riso baldo. It offers a practical alternative to the supermarket. The thuringer bratwurst and the roast beef are the items to buy over here along with their really good Spanish cheese. You can order sandwiches here too; all are made with the freshest ingredients. I can never pass by this deli without buying anything, it always conjures the best memories in my head, most of them in Buenos Aires. (but hey that's just me)

The long and circuitous sprawl of Baclaran's open-air market still provides such an experience. If you're game enough to brave wayward jeepneys, daring pedicab maneuverings, and the occasional wet sidewalk, then this is the place for you. It's all worth it, though, if you're a true-blue bargain hunter. Starting from the Baclaran church, just follow the overhead train tracks and you'll find cheap clothes, shoes and bags, industrial supplies, beauty supplies, cleaning supplies, party supplies, fish and meats, fruits and vegetables, cheap electronics, furniture, toys, gift items, it goes on! It's like being at the mall only without the aircon and product branding. It makes me think of Chatuchak, but without the organization. Sometimes, it's more fun that way, though! And if you get hungry while shopping, there's no shortage of street food vendors to satisfy you - from fresh coconut juice and sago-gulaman, to roasted peanuts and barbecue, and many more. I used to be a mall-hound, but Baclaran has changed me. I recommend even just a stroll through here (in clothes you don't mind getting dirty) if you want to see a different side of modern Manila. My family and I have been shopping here since we moved to Parañaque and it's become a comfortable activity. I've never actually felt threatened here (but of course it never hurts to be aware of one's surroundings anywhere you go). The stretch of stalls and shops challenge me to stay alert and sharp as I'm constantly bombarded with smells, sounds, and motion. It's a happy chaos that I think I can only find in Manila.

It's of my my favorite Filipino delicacies. Thank goodness for Bibingkinitan, I can enjoy my hot bibingka all year round. Of course, it seems too indulgent to finish one plate of bibingka all by myself. But Bibingkinitan serve freshly baked mini bibingkas, just the right size for one person, though I can finish a whole box (6 mini bibingkas inside) in one sitting if I don't control myself. I recently learned that they also have ube, pastillas, macapuno and even peanut butter bibingkas, but those are just seasonal. It's okay, I'm more than happy with my original bibingka, more butter and no sugar, please. I like bringing home a box of Bibingkinitan for an afternoon snack, but I also like eating it at their stall, with their special calamansi juice.
