In the home there are well preserved treasures that are worth seeing. General tours are adults 7.00 and children are 3.00. Senior Citizens are fairly cheap as well. Originally we didn't have time to stay for a whole tour but the docent gave us a nice taste of what was available. This would be an excellent tour for field trips of small classes. I would call ahead and see what rates are like.

There's a part that covers wagons, carriages, and buggies along with some Penrose history and another part (my favorite) that has the cars from the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. There are some awesome cars there like a very early Cadillac, a twin-engine Suzuki, a Nascar-style V-6 Mustang, and that infamously wrecked EVO. I went through and read a lot of the information and it took about 90 minutes, which lined up well with the parking validation that covered 90 minutes in the garage. The woman working at the time was helpful and we signed the logbook by the entrance. The museum is FREE to enter, which made it even better.

Great local museum detailing the history and life of Colorado Springs and its environs…read more The museum has a variety of exhibits which tackle this from a variety of angles -- famous authors, local Native Americans, the Springs as a tuberculosis treatment center, pottery art, women's art, local tattoo art, the history of the city by decade, the history of a lost Latino neighborhood, etc. All is curated and presented in an interesting fashion -- there was some but very little of the "We don't have a lot to say about this person, so here's random biographical detail filler" sort of local museum content. The breadth of presentation extended to a potpourri "A-to-Z" exhibit with bits of info about a wide variety of topics (did you know that Lon Chaney was from Colorado Springs?). We easily spent three hours touring the exhibits, and I count the time well spent. The building is the former El Paso county courthouses and offices, and is truly lovely. One of the courtrooms has been preserved as an exhibit. Staff was friendly. Admission is free (though donations are encouraged).

Once you get your visitor pass, take the escalator to the 3rd floor where the exhibits start. The exhibits are straightforward and interactive. You'll find several friendly staff members who are happy to answer any questions you have. Topics include both summer and Winter Olympic Games as well as the Paralympics. One of my personal favorite parts of the museum was the endless signed memorabilia, Olympic medals, and torches. I spent about 1.5 hours here from door to door, but you could easily spend 2+ hours if you read everything and interact with all the exhibits. And of course, the gift shop is right there at the end before you head out the door. As far as logistics go, I walked here since I stayed nearby, but it appears you have to pay for the parking lot across the street. Definitely a must if you're into the Olympics or sports in general, there's something for everyone!

We have a toddler and we were looking for things to do in the area. We heard about this place on…read morethe local internet and decided to go check it out. This isn't meant to be negative but the overall experience was mediocre. My son had really high expectations when we told him that we were going to see dinosaurs. There were only a few stations where he could safely touch things. Unfortunately prehistoric poop was one or two of them. There were a couple guides giving tours and explanations but they didn't grab the attention of our toddler so we moved on. The entire economy is a small circle of the least known dinosaurs. I think it's worth stopping in if you're in the area and maybe with enough support it will grow in the future.

Saturday tends to get a lot more crowded, and the tend to run out of beer in the afternoon. However, the lines are never THAT bad, and while you wait in line, you talk and drink beer. It's like Disney World without the rides and you enjoy the wait Also, there are always coupons and deals that go around the week before.
