The brainchild of two ex-private chefs for the Packers amongst other Australian celebs, Botanica is about one thing: Real Food. Daily made fresh salads, fresh loaves of bread, and small cakes. All take-away and all presentable on a dinner plate to either proudly boast where acquired or past off as your own divine creations. My small beetroot slaw was a neat $10 and fed two as a dinner side as well as enough left over to make friends with an egg and some fetta this morning for breakfast. Best of all they're open til 7pm, meaning you can pop in on your way home for those times when cooking seems too much but a oil deep fried takeaway dinner is equally lacking in appeal.

Today, we decided on Vege Rama, a vegetarian place down Adelaide street. They offer a variety of pre-mixed salads, as well as Mexican and Indian vegetarian options. While I'm not much of a salad person, I do enjoy a good salad once in a while, so I went for the chickpea pesto salad and the sesame BBQ. I got a small salad combo (5.5), and while the two salads got mixed up, I'm pretty sure the sesame BBQ was the one that was more flavorful and stood out. I couldn't really taste the pesto salad dressing, possibly because it pooled at the bottom, but the two mixed together wasn't bad! The ingredients taste fresh, and the service is pretty friendly and fast. My only complaint is that they don't have much seating, so be prepared to take-away!

Just pop up to the counter and see what they have in their display case. They also have a few dessert-y type things if you are so inclined. Everything is vegan. (I think some of their other locations have a few non-vegan options with dairy, so just ask to make sure.) Both times I went, I got a combo meal with a bunch of different curries and things like that. Your choice of brown or saffron rice is included. Their Thai curry with pumpkin is one of the best curries I've had in my life, although it's definitely sweet so just be aware if you don't like sweet things, but it's absolutely amazing. This place gets bonus points for being pretty inexpensive as well. A large combo will only set you back $10-12, depending on what you get (bakes vs. curries, etc.) and their burgers are only $8-9. The portion sizes are huge, almost a little too big for lunch, so you definitely get value for your money. The Post Office Square location is reallllllllly small, with no interior seating and only a smattering of tables and chairs outside. This is really a take-away place, and there's always a lunchtime queue. (Like almost everyone else, I got take-away both times.) This place is so good I'm almost glad I don't live in Brisbane because I would seriously spend my money eating at Vege Rama for lunch every day. Every. Single. Day. Go. They had numerous options to build a meal with curries as well, and a selection of salads and (often vegan) desserts as well. They don't have the student discount of their neighboring competitor, but at $9 for a made to order meal, it certainly wasn't expensive. I have yet to try their nicer sit-down restaurant in West End, but after seeing how good the food court one is, I'm eager to.
