Botanica is sending me broke. The salads are delicious (try the raw brocolli one!) and the cakes are delectable. All baked items are gluten-free, moist and not overly sweet, which makes them a perfect after-salad treat!

I've been trying to eat healthier lately. So when I was taken to lunch the other day at the…read moreWintergarden foodcourt, I opted for what looked like the healthiest option there. Greenbean is located close to the Queen St Mall end of the Wintergarden foodcourt. Hop on the escalators down and turn right. If you're coming up from Elizabeth Street, stick to the left side of the thoroughfare. Beware the dreaded peak lunch hour, though, you might need a buddy to table-hunt while you order. Ambience *** While I hate crowded places, I have to admit, the handful of tables and chairs directly left of Greenbean is PERFECT for me as they were only half full around peak hour meaning they're easily missed by those looking directly into the main table maze. There's a crowd of people hanging around and you don't know if they're waiting to order, waiting for food, waiting for friends, and that's partly because there's no glaring sign saying 'Order here'; the cashier is the only obvious service point, so my advice is to just walk right up to the other end of the tall glass benchtop and wait for someone to serve. Which they will, pretty quickly. I got the feeling, watching like a noob while hubby ordered, that I should figure out which of the hundred or so fillings I wanted in my salad because it looked like a tornado of activity behind the benches. The ingredients are all displayed behind glass (think along the lines of Subway) so you can see what you're going to get, just make sure you check both sides or ask if you don't see something you want. The staff have VERY smartly opted for tong service, meaning they never have to rip off or pull on gloves, and your food is selected and tossed by stainless steel instead of grubby hands. Service *** Watching what hubby ordered, I turned my order into a mantra in my head because these guys are very fast; I was already feeling like I was in the middle of a salad-marathon nightmare and when it was my turn to be served I spilled the beans in one long stream of ingredients. Luckily, the server was ready for my panicked verbal diarrhea and got my order spot on. He even asked me 'is that enough chicken?'. Who does that?? The food turnaround is high here, so don't expect to grow a relationship with your server unless you maybe arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon. They're all business in the middle of lunch. Except the cashier, who seemed pretty relaxed compared to his busy comrades. Food **** While on the menu, there are 8 or so 'salads', the fun part of Greenbean is to create your own from the selection in front of you. I opted for a baby spinach base, plain chicken, mushrooms, celery, boiled egg, greenbeans (of course!) and balsamic dressing. While in retrospect I needed something salty to counter the somewhat bland taste, for around $9-, I got a good amount of all the fillings and didn't finish and took the rest back to work. Hubby wanted me to note that anchovies are part of the caesar and you don't pay extra, and as with mine, he was asked if he'd been given enough. The salad tasted fresh, the spinach, beans, and celery crisp, the egg boiled right and the mushrooms mushroomy. The chicken was a bit 'wet' in texture, but better that than dry. The balsamic cut right through everything, and although it was seasoned with S&P, there wasn't enough salt in it to cut through the balsamic. Which is my fault, because it was my own creation. Note to Jen: next time add bacon. Everything's better with bacon. I saw on the menu you can also get your salad as a wrap. I'm not sure what the price difference is, but I'm sure you couldn't smush all that food into one wrap (unless they have magic hands... and they just might). You can order a drink (check the corner of the outlet for the display), but the choice is a bit limited. I think I paid $1- for a bottle of water - not bad at all, considering how inflated bottled water prices can be. Dessert is Greek yoghurt, in small to large sizes in a few different flavours. IF you can fit it in. Additional Notes I really urge anyone who wants to visit Greenbean to check out the website. If you order your lunch online before 10am, you get 35% extra at no extra charge and you don't have to worry about how busy it is when you pick-up. Also check online for promotions, or pick up a flyer at the cashier when you visit. If the guys have a few seconds here or there, I would suggest either slowing down on service a touch, OR making that endless bounding energy into 'fun' energy with some tong-flare, or in-staff joking. It just looked like they need an injection of chilled happy into their hyper activity to keep their customers from getting caught up in the hurried atmosphere.

An extensive drinks menu. The juice machine currently down but will definitely come back to try their cold press juice blends. Had the soul bowl too to feel healthy and it was quite flavorful. Ambience is a relaxed cafe. Plenty of outdoor seating in the back. Plenty of shade for these summer months. Price is about 15$ a plate. But they have 20$ deals that includes lunch and a side and a drink.

It looks deceptively small from the outside, but upon entering its actually very spacious. Looking beyond the crowd to the back, we could make out the patio, and the other dining space. Inside, the decor is very familial, a comfortably warm colour scheme with wooden furniture, exuding a typical "Queenslander" charm. It was very busy, and it was great that the waitress who greeted us, offered us a tip. That was, to go find a table first, before ordering. Looking around it did seem quite chaotic, with people lining up at the counter (which is near the entrance), and crowding, nay, encroaching on the diners already seated at the front of Sassafras. I found all of this to be awkward. Essentially, you order, get a number, and find yourself a seat somewhere (if you can). As we walked through all the way to the back patio, I felt an immediate sense of dejavu. The patio area had a very minor resemblance to the back dining area of the Three Monkeys in West End. We managed to find a table, enjoying the ray of sunshine, whilst looking at the menu. Prices seemed consistent with what you would expect from a cafe in Paddington, upwards to $21. They do have cheaper options from the counter too such as sausage rolls, pies, savoury tarts etc. Whilst my other half minded the table, I went to the counter to order. Unfortunately, the chaos hadn't disappeared. People who had finished were lining up to pay, and the line was blocking the entrance so people trying to get in couldn't and those already dining near the front of the counter had to contend with patrons bumping into their seats. Thank god for the waitress who suggested we find a table first, because by this stage, I don't think anyone coming in would get one. I initially ordered the Potato Fetta and Mint Rosti, but was advised that they had run out! The lady was really friendly and explained that Sundays were their busiest. That's fine, I understand that, but I always think that if you know you are always busy on a given day, and have been operating for a number of years, then surely you'd have an idea of which items are popular, which aren't, and thefore stock / prepare accordingly. Never mind though, there were plenty of other yummy options like the Pesto chicken burger and the Sassa Banana and Walnut bread. Grabbed our number and headed back to the table to relax, and watch the people enjoying a typical Sunday breakfast. Whilst waiting though, we did observe, several times where the waitstaff appeared confused, looking for tables, who ordered what, customers who forgot to take their number. I can't imagine how many orders may have got mixed up. Its clear their system doesn't work, or maybe only on weekedays. The pesto chicken burger was very filling, tasty enough, but perhaps a tad overpriced. What blew us away, was the Sassa Banana and Walnut Bread with the brown sugar butter. Let's just say, everytime we took a bite, we could hear Usher ringin in our ears "you make me want to say Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Ohh myy god". So good I wanted to steal the recipe. Which one can too, because I saw the Sassafras cook book for sale near the front counter. There is a lot to like about Sassafras. I like that their breakfasts last until 2pm. I like that their menu is flexible enough to cater for vegans, gluten free and dairy-free diners. I like the friendly staff, and the chilled out atmosphere despite the busy trade. I like the inviting and familial charm of the place. Perhaps its better to come here on a weekeday, or they really need to sort out the logistics of where customers order, and how they order. This would eliminate mix-ups, as well as enhance other diner's experience (those unfortunate souls sitting at the front dining area near the counter. We're glad that we sat out in the patio where there was plenty of room to stretch even though all tables were taken.

While Scout was good, it didn't quite compare with Jacaranda. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Even early on a Monday morning Scout was packed, and as I waited maybe fifteen minutes for a table I couldn't help but just be almost overcome with jealousy at the fact that it's so commonplace for so many Aussies to have the ability to just take a leisurely Monday morning breakfast. Anyway, I digress - I was promptly seated after a short wait and from there everyone was wonderful. The food did take a hot minute or fifteen to come out, but it was clear that's because my breakfast sandwich was made to order. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $15.00 AUD got me a pretty good sized Brekky Bagel, and while it was pretty basic, this was still good value. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a good, although as I mentioned relatively basic breakfast bagel sandwich. I wished that the bagel itself had been toasted, and while from there the ingredients were good, the whole thing was just a bit more basic than I had thought it would be. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? I didn't for a second dislike my trip to Scout, but there are simply so many great breakfast spots in Brissy that I can't get as excited about Scout as I can for others. No Star.

My husband and I have had take-away from Andriko's Seafood several times, we have always enjoyed the quality of the meals. We order the 'Seafood Platter for 2' ($26.50) which consists of; 2 cod, 4 prawn cutlets, 4 sea scollops, 8 calamari, chips and sauce, you can choose to have the cod grilled, battered or crumbed, either way it is consistently done to perfection. The other elements are battered, but they aren't off put-tingly oily as you would expect from a fish and chip joint. I know that people love 'Rainworth Seafood' and it is recognised as the go to fish and chip shop in Bardon, however I have been disappointed every time I have eaten there. This evening, husband and I dined-in Andriko's for the first time. It was quiet in the restaurant but seemed to have an endless amount of take-away orders. Right away we felt relaxed in there, the atmosphere is peaceful even though you are on a busy strip. Pleasant Greek music plays in the background as you are surrounded by a clean ocean motif. In our usual style, we ordered the 'Dinner for Two Special' ($64.90) which consists of; your choice of any two fish cooked the way you like, four prawn cutlets, salt & pepper calamari, 2 garlic & coriander skewered scollops, beer battered chips and your choice of salad and sauce. I felt it was a little pricey but once we received the meal, I wasn't disappointed. Our meal came out about five minutes after we were seated, which was awesome. We both went for the Salmon- grilled, both were cooked exactly the way we had specified and they were generous sized fillets. The prawns tasted so fresh and actually seem to explode in your mouth, the batter didn't drown out that prawns natural taste but in fact complimented it. The scollops again, tasted extremely fresh, they were seared and still opaque. The salt and pepper calamari was not very peppery, but that is forgiven as the calamari rings were cooked exactly the way calamari should be, to the point they almost just dissolve in your mouth. Cesar Salad was our choice, it was delicious, I think the sauce was made in store and had a hint of lemon zing. It did not have croutons or anchovies as one would expect in a Cesar, but the bacon is crispy enough that you do not notice the croutons absence. Andriko's has Brisbanes very own 'Krazy Lemon Lemonade' (www.krazylemon.com.au) available, if you haven't had this lemonade, you need to STOP what you're doing right now and go on a mad dash to source and annihilate a bottle of this delicious stuff! Andriko, the owner is a nice a guy and lovely to have a chat to, in fact all the staff are friendly. I am going to be disappointed when I move out of the area and have to find another fish and chip shop, which I am almost certain will not compare.

Its sheer ostentatious colour scheme has a hypnotic effect, you start to salivate and when you regain consciousness you're inside. A modern take on the traditional milk bar/diner from classic times of jukeboxes and Fonzarelli. Being a café that's situated in one of Brisbane's busiest suburbs, Milk caters for a wide range of consumers. For those are time poor and in a rush, there is take away coffee and a display fridge carrying a selection of premade wraps and sandwiches. In addition, there is also a wide range of cakes, candy, ice cream and slices for the sweet tooth. After ordering at the counter, those with time in their corner have the option of sitting inside or outside. All around me there are mothers, business people, teenagers (on holidays) chatting, laughing and networking. It's a relaxing and family friendly atmosphere and the staff only amplify the surroundings. You can tell that Milk, with its nod towards traditional good service and quality foods encourages repeat business. For a lot of people in the room, I wouldn't be surprised if they were regulars sitting at their favorite tables eating their favorite food. For my induction into the Milk fold, I've ordered a Chicken Licken Burger ($16.90) and a Banana Milkshake. When it comes out it's more than worth the dollars I've chucked into it. It's really well furnished and gives off an air of retro glamour without any of the tacky elements that people sometimes associate with retro, yet it's also modern. I don't know how they managed to pull that off, but the end product is an amazingly inviting café where I want a boy wearing a bowtie and Ray Bans to take me for a milkshake and ask me to go steady. Or a bad boy wearing a leather jacket à la Grease. Either is good thanks. The breakfast menu caters for every nation. And by that I mean you can choose from an English brekky, Welsh, Australian (with chips, obviously), Irish, Balinese, Scottish, Jamaican, Italian, and so many more! And I saw kiddies running around with cute little cupcakes. They also serve real tea, not teabag tea and make a really good cup of coffee. Did I also mention the music?
