If I could give zero stars I would. I went there yesterday and met Jill and her husband. She…read moreshowed me a studio and 1 bedroom. Said they would be available the first of the month and one now. I send her paystubs and drivers license. I make plenty of money and been with the same company 18 years. Nothing on drivers license. She responds back rudely that she is not interested in renting to me and doesnt have to tell me why. I called her because I think Im hacked and she said the same thing then hangs up. She didn't run credit which is 800. I will be looking into the fair housing act as I believe Im being discriminated against. This is the most bizarre thing I have ever experienced. Whoever owns this establishment has serious issues. Please read her response. This is what she said in an email to me "I am not interested in renting to you and I am not obligated to say why." Her response to my review confirms in general confirm her logic??? What logic? I don't want to rent to someone who makes a lot of money and would pay his bill, has 800 credit score, and never had anything but a speeding ticket on his record from 20 years ago, that doesnt drink or smoke? Great logic. I thought I had seen everything until this. She edited her review which I took a picture of to come across more polite. Short term rental is now 1 year. Sure. Be extremely cautious if you go to look at these apartments. I am a nice guy with zero negative info and has money. This is bizarre.

My mom's biggest concern was for my safety and we found the Sherman House to be very safe. I appreciate my landlord and her swiftness in responding to my texts of any issues that I may have. She runs a very tight ship and I appreciate that. I also appreciated the thoroughness of her application process. I have had no complaints while living here.

I moved into Winthrop fall 2014. The apartments are okay, fairly cheaply built but I expected that…read more I enjoyed the close proximity to my job and easy to find parking right out front. All the apartments are built in groups of 4 with a shared hallway. Two of my neighbors smoked in their apartments and the smoke made it into the hallway and all throughout my apartment. I was surprised as I didn't think smoke would move through the apartments like it did. I had to leave my apartment during the worst smokiest times because my wife and I couldn't take the smoke. We had symptoms of headaches, irritated eyes, and coughs from breathing in the smoke. I worked with the apartment manager and maintenance over several months to try to resolve the smoke issue as well as talking to the neighbors. Winthrop chooses to allow smoking in the apartments and the management has a pro-smoking attitude so nothing was done to fix the problem. I documented the problem and provided a doctor's note to get out of my lease early without fees, so thankfully I did not have to suffer the whole 12 months. It was still a major process, hassle, and inconvenience to get out of the lease. The first person I shared this with outside of Winthrop said she has a friend living at Winthrop with the same smoke problem. Management does not know who smokes. If you don't like breathing in smoke do not live at Winthrop. I wish I would have been warned. Other things that were minor compared to the smoke: hallway doors are hollow interior doors so you hear all the hallway noises. There was a semi parked out back for several months that would idle during the evenings and all night and was loud and kept us up.

When things broke, someone always came in and fixed it the day (or the day after) you emailed the leasing office about it :) the apartments definitely showed signs of age, but it was always clean and everything in the kitchen and the bathroom was kept in working order. There was a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink, so that was a big plus! The laundry room was great too! everything was kept clean and in working order. Garbage removal was also good. And I have to mention that snow removal was fantastic! As you all know, Ohio doesn't always have the kindest weather, but the paths and parking lots always got shoveled, plowed, and salted in a timely fashion. Also, I never had a problem finding a parking space in front of my door. The windows were nice and big, and always opened, closed, and locked with no problems. It was a very short drive to campus, and while you are close to I-75, the road noise wasn't obnoxious. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was only because a lot of things were outdated and old. The deck and steps outside of the second floor apts were kind of creaky and there were lots of gaps in the wood, and there were always nails sticking up in places. Also, while the locks on the doors were good, the doors themselves were a little thin... (like one good kick could bust it down, although there was never any crime). The cabinets and drawers in the kitchen were extremely old and squeaked a lot, there was no dishwasher, and there was very little counter space. the most I could manage to have on the counter was a dish drying rack and a microwave (the two essentials lol) and it left little room for cooking and food prep. but the rest of the kitchen was a good size and there was room for us to have a big dining room table if we pushed it to the wall :) it was great to have room for such a big table for all of our eating and studying. overall, it's a great place to live! very convenient location, and efficient and friendly staff. and rent was very reasonable. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an apartment in findlay, especially UF students :)
