It's too bad, as I was really excited to spend money at a local visitor center on literature and trail maps of the region. Guess the Catskills aren't known for friendly people. I did walk a bit up one of the trails with the pup (who is better behaved than most children but, oddly, those are allowed inside) and it was a well kept trail. Its the only "visitor center" posted on some wood or something on that parkway. I know I shouldn't share this with random readers, but I have to explain it for you guys to understand why I reviewed it. I have a weird thing for rest stops and 24/7 gas stations no matter where it is. I have no idea why. Maybe its b/c time seems to fall back at rest stops, or the fact that you stop there in transit and it becomes a community of drivers in one, creepy location. Whatever the reason, I love stopping at these places. So anyone as odd as myself, I had to share. Okay this is no ordinary rest stop. First, if you need to use the john don't bother going here b/c they have port-a-pottys and they do not smell "potty". This is for the sheer enjoyment of going to a random linkin log place in the middle of Rockland County, and saying "hey, I could use a shiny rock." Also, this place closes early. I think 6. Alright so there is the most RANDOM load of fun filled crap here. It's like a local street fair from 1987 threw up here and nobody bothered to clean it up. Finger traps, rock shiners, an assortment of rocks, camoflage toilet paper on a ROLL, candy that belongs in a museum..It's awesome here. It's bizarre and so creepy, but it was friggin super. I think I even bought a couple of rocks (I'm a science nut; what do you want from me?). Anyway, everytime I pass that place I feel like I'm hitting the twilight zone because it sure as hell isn't 2007 over at that joint. CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!

Today, we were greeted by a friendly lady with a love for outdoors and area. She was helping an elderly fellow interested in the food bank which is part of the facility. She tenderly read the menu to him for the day and talked with him about signing up. Then she asked if I was a visitor and pointed out a few fun things to do. She also walked me through the museum. The museum tells the story of the local ski race. We picked up a number of pamphlets. Don't forget to sign the guest book.

The boardwalks are readily accessed from the parking lot across the visitor centre and they are extensive and well maintained. The structure is beautiful and looked like a barn; it was nicely decorated and showcased Vermont as a whole. The restrooms were large and clean; they had changing tables which was a plus. They had a large patio area with many seats. There was even a playground. Parking was plentiful. We went in September around 6:30 pm and outside near the playground, there were a ton of mosquitos. We had to run out of there lol. Overall, it's a great spot to stop and stretch your legs if you're in the area.

She pulled out some maps and booklets and highlighted some covered bridges we were looking for and suggested a deli near one of them. Sometimes, digital maps and internet access to these things are nice for planning, as we had, but a good old fashioned paper map of the area highlighted by a local, can still be helpful in decision making. The rest rooms were very nice and there was some art in the display room. But the traditional post and beam construction was the main attraction. The parking was ample. Do stop here, whether you need help or not, it was well worth seeing. It truly is a Welcome Center to a very beautiful state.

Saw the sign for the Pez museum while we were driving around on the first full day of our trip to…read moreConnecticut. Didn't plan on coming here, but glad that we did. The visitor center is located adjacent to the Pez Factory in Orange, CT, being the sole manufacturer for the Pez candy (not the dispenser) for the United States since 1973. Thus most of the large parking lot is filled employee cars, but off to the side is the visitor center along with an ample parking area. Admission is $5 per person, with the remark that $2 of it could be used as credit to purchase anything in the company store. Products for sale are intermingled with antique Pez dispensers, and consists of two stories. Most of the time is spent glancing at dispensers behind glass. To encourage this, a game sheet was given to every entrant: The Close Up Hunt. The goal was to identify the eight close up views of different dispensers, found throughout the museum: basically a scavenger hunt. My wife and I were able to finish it (thanks to her) and the prize was a spin on the prize wheel. I got the emoji Pez while she got the My Little Pony. My wife likes Pez candy (a lot more than the dispensers), so our obvious choice was to buy a self-service bucket of pez candy for $6.99. There were eleven flavors to choose from, and I had fun filling the bucket (and didn't spill any!). The cashier let us know that there was a minimum purchase of $5 for a credit card charge, so ended up choosing a Pikachu dispenser to reach that amount One game was to find and identify 8 different Pez dispensers in the display cases. There were two floors. We were able to identify all of them, and as a prize got to spin a little wheel. I got the emoji Pez dispenser and Odette got the my little pony one. Each $5 ticket gives $2 in credit which we used to buy a bucket of candies. You have to spend at least $5 to use credit card, so bought a Pez dispenser of Pikachu ($2.49) as well. The entire stay was about an hour. The employees are behind transparent glass so we can see them and they us. It's the main packaging area. Guessing the actual making of the candy isn't that fun to watch, and the dispensers are made overseas.

I visited the PEZ Visitor Center with my husband and some friends when we were driving through…read moreConnecticut over the Fourth of July holiday. It was such a fun stop on our mini road trip! The visitor center is located at the PEZ factory, where PEZ candy is made for the US and Canada (the dispensers are made elsewhere). We visited over a holiday weekend, so they the employees who manufacture the candy at the facility were off on holiday, but normally you can watch the production floor from the visitor center. But the visitor center also a ton of PEZ memorabilia, a historical timeline of PEZ (I didn't know it was invented in Vienna in 1927 as a smoking replacement to help people stop smoking!), a PEZ trivia game, and more! It was really cool to learn about the history of PEZ and to see so many historical/vintage PEZ dispensers! The admission is very affordable ($5 for adults, $4 for children and seniors, and free for children under the age of 3). That admission includes a visitor lanyard you get to keep as a souvenir and a $2 credit towards merchandise in the shop. The shop was fun - we all had to get a souvenir, of course! It was a fun, happy little stop on our trip! I recommend it to anyone with kids or who are kids at heart or anyone who loves candy or who loves vintage Americana...really almost anyone should have a good time at the PEZ Visitor Center!
