I gave 4 stars because I absolutely love the librarian, Robyn. She was a tremendous help to me…read moreregarding my library account. She's always kind & helpful, and it's sweet that she remembers me. I love her customer service skills. However, I took a star away because of Liz, the very rude and arrogant clerk. Here's what happened: I came in to the library with the intent to get a shipping label printed out in an urgent manner, as I as a very short window of time to get that shipping label taped onto the package and dropped off at the post office, right around the next corner. However, after trying to get help from Liz, she kept insisting in an "oh holier than thou" manner that I could not and would not use the computer without MY library card. She said there was absolutely NO way she could allow me to use my son's library card just to log into a computer so I could print out that darn shipping label! I asked her to please speak to Robyn for a possible "override," at which point she turned around with this highly offended attitude and went back to speak to Robyn. Well, time was a ticking! She took her sweet time turning around and walking back to me; I could see that Liz was visibly upset that Robyn did indeed override her authority, so Liz deliberately took her sweet time to punch a few keys on the computer, in order to help me. I decided to still be kind, so I thanked her, at which point she ignored me, refused eye contact, then haughtily turned around and started speaking loudly to head librarian. If I need to go up to the front for help, I sure will wait to speak to one of the ladies (or gentleman, although he hasn't been the nicest in the past), but I refuse to allow someone like her, who is completely lacking in anything even remotely considered customer service skills. I hope she can learn to be kind in the future, instead of using her age as a right granted to her, to speak down and belittle us in such a rude and arrogant manner. To better days ahead! First time there. Didn't know there was a separate library for young kids and teens. Now we do. It was close to 5:30 pm so we thought we would have a good half hour before they closed at 6pm. At 10 minutes to 6 some person walked by and said the library was closing and within seconds turned the lights in the room off. It wasn't completely dark but enough to not be able to see writings clearly. It would have been nice to get a 10 min or so warning that they would be turning the lights off so we could wrap up what we were doing. That's so rude! Our local library is the Monterey Library but since we were in Carmel we thought we would save commute time and use it at the Carmel library. Turns out that was not the case. Our local library gives a 30 min, 15 min, then a 10 (or 5?) min notice of closing time and then even at closing time does not turn the lights off on anyone . I guess the Carmel library staff are all very anxious to get home. Just know if you go there near closing time that you will be rushed out the door very rudely and treated like you are taking up their precious time.

THIS Library is a gem- beautiful with a fantastic selection, new books quiet reference areas and so well-kept. It has a large reference section and the top floor is fiction. Built in 1923, a memorial for Judge Harrington. WOW! It has a working fire place! A calm place to learn and centrally located.
