Algonquin North Wilderness Outfitter - Fantastic outfitting store outside Kiosk Algonquin Park

Having just finished a short canoe trip putting in at Kiosk, I can say that anyone needing a canoe…read moreand/or gear can rent with absolute confidence at Algonquin North. Nelson and his team are top quality in terms of equipment, convenience, dependability, responsiveness, and overall positive experience when entering from the north end of Algonquin. The northern entrance is noticeably quieter than the crowded Highway 60 scene and with a 5* outfitter directly on the road into the Kiosk put-in, IMHO it's worth the drive further north. In summary, I have used their services multiple times, they have never failed to satisfy, and we will use them again. Rent with confidence. Good gear. Good people.

Owner would not consider any refund simply saying that Is their written policy. It is the policy in fine print on the confirmation. I would understand in the summer or high season if there was a chance it would be a wasted rental opportunity In late september it was not. He has most of his fleet on racks. I would go to brent and rent from AO. a couple of years ago i returned the canoe one day early and they sent a refund in solicited. Solid customer service compared to greed. I wont go back to Algonquin North.

Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park - Camp store with some gorgeous goods including Pendleton blankets

I'm so glad to read the detailed reviews of this park from Allison and Laura, because my experience…read morewas super brief and kind of a blur. The camp store was full of cute, well-designed things right next to the rental shack with boats and the spot to get your firewood. We rolled in to our camp site just before sunset, quickly put up our tent and through on our swimsuits and ran to the end of our little dirt road to jump in the water in the last of the golden light. It was glorious. After dinner we walked around the campground and checked out the other beach where teens were playing and bugs were gathering hungry for blood. We tucked into bed early, really glad we'd gotten that perfect swim in. We were gone the next morning early, on to the next one.

I can't say I'm a big camper. I like my comfort and convenience, and cleanliness. It's my third…read moretime camping, and I know what to expect now. I was really happy with this park, and the facilities they had. All the toilets are flush toilets, so no pinching your nose and squating on top of a hole, afriad you'll fall in. And it wasn't too stinky either. There were 4 + 1 handicap showers. The 1st one had warm water. And I never saw a line up or had to wait. The facilities were kept some what clean, and I liked that. The site also had a beach that fell on to the Moore Lake. It was a nice secluded beach and perfect for a swim and to put all your stuff. They had rental canoes and kayaks you can take out to the lake. Algonquin Northern Outfitters down the street has cheaper ones than the park. The Park store has anything you could want (including ice cream) yum. And life jackets you can borrow. The park staff also organize some events every evening (perfect for kids) like star gazing or history hikes. There is also a small museum that explains the history of Samuel de Champlain and his trade routes. I also liked seeing the park staff patrol occasionally throughout the day. The park itself had a few trails that go along the Mattawa river. It was a tortuous 5 hr hike that had us wishing we had a machete to cut through the ruffage. I guess that's how M. Champlain travelled thru the trading routes. I like going to new places all the time, but if I had to choose one to come back to , this would be it.

I have to give a lot of props to Payne Marine - they helped us out of a major jam and were friendly and professional. Can't ask for much more at a marina. My group and I ended up pulling into this place on our boating trip through Georgian Bay, and were welcomed in with open arms. This is the first marina I'd visited in the area, and the site itself is nicely laid-out. We all had a chance to visit the main office/store, which has a surprising amount of amenities available including an internet cafe and its own gas station. There are also a number of maps and guides you can buy for the local area. I knew I was in unfamiliar territory when I watched a boater sail up, have an attendant fill the boat's gas tank up, then tell her to charge it to his account without ever once leaving the dock. There's definitely a different vibe and culture to this place, which we experienced first-hand. We ended up getting into a boating accident after a member of my group (who had no boating experience whatsoever) accelerated out of the dock and ended up getting us lodged onto the dock via an errant wave. The boat nearly sank, but the staff were quick to run out and help us. They went above and beyond for us, lending us a motorized pump to get all the water out. Special shout-out to the employee who worked there, Alyssa, who was friendly and helped us out through the whole process. She even posed for pictures with my friend, LOL. The staff at Payne Marine were a great help and turned a momentarily-precarious situation into a fond memory. Will definitely be back if I'm out in Georgian Bay again. Worth a visit.
