The earliest memory I have of this place was when my grandma passed. I've attended a few funerals at Greenland Cemetary. I appreciate all the different roads leading into different directions, but the roads sure are small. And if a car or cars are parked on the side of these roads, then it's a tight squeeze. If there is more than one burial at once, it may be hard to know where to go if say you're coming from the chuch or from elsewhere so I thought a RIP "name" sign would be helpful in front of the burial site. It would've helped me, I just followed a car until I saw a group of people, and then I spotted my best friend. The grass is very uneven, and if you're wearing heels, please be careful! During the burial, a staff member spoke, and he was very courteous. I appreciated his tone and the way he spoke very much. Im sure everyone did! It was a beautiful way to say goodbye! read more

As I contemplate this review, my heart is full of sadness, as well as my mind. Why? Because every time I visit this cemetery, I see people walking their DOGS. Why do that? I want to know because I have no clue. AND, WHY does Greenlawn continue to allow this unacceptable 'dog walking' on SACRED property? Why do I say 'unacceptable' and use the word SACRED? Because dogs urinate and defecate everywhere and yes, even on graves of the dearly departed, (and it appears that the owners of the dogs are not picking up after them). Or, Is it because nothing is UNACCEPTABLE nor SACRED any longer? They say "actions speak louder than words" and the fact that there are no signs on the grounds stating "No dogs allowed" SAYS IT ALL. My next thought is 'why hasn't anyone complained to this funeral home about this?' Maybe folks have and it has fallen on 'deaf ears?' GREENLAWN! Keep the grounds GREEN. Stop allowing dogs on this sacred property to disrespect and/or desecrate graves and the grounds. Show family members (and others) of the departed YOU CARE enough to communicate that 'dog walking' on cemetery grounds is unacceptable. Just when I thought society could not go any lower, it appears that it most certainly has reached another all-time low. I'll give you an honest review. This place, the people, the services offered... a complete failure. For a funeral home you would think they would be willing to help, but no, unless you are handing them an envelope full of cash, THEY DO NOT CARE. To start, you book with them a date and location and services to be held at a church, simple enough, nope, they mixed up the dates with the church, was booked for a Saturday but they messed up and it was switched to a Wednesday. After the contract was signed, they gave us half off but not the point. The burial is the burial, they dig a hole, not much you can mess up there. Moving forward to headstone installation, they clearly have an issue with you going else where to get the headstone, THEY WILL LIE and say they don't accept other vendors headstones but also won't tell you which ones they accept or give you a list of approved vendors. They also don't customize headstones so I went with Express Monument. The headstone was delivered and I had to reach out to them 4 times just to get them to tell me a time frame of installation (1-2 weeks), 5 days before the 2 weeks mark and I haven't heard a single thing from them, so I email them again, with the boss in copy, Fidel, and I get a text message within 10 minutes saying it's installed. No picture, no proof. It's a for profit funeral home, they only want your money, they don't give a damn about your loved ones. I'll refrain from naming names (except for the boss) for now in hopes they know who they are and want to better themselves. read more

My adopted brother had requested that I go to our mom's headstone then walk to to chat with Jose Sandoval. Jose would have definitely walked or carted us to see our mom's flat headstone, but unfortunately for me he had another duty to perform. So Carrie, the lady who originally helped from behind the glass got Serenedy Pacheco to assist my needs. I got into her cart and I showed her where my mom's headstone was and pointed out that the apron around the marble was cracked. She informed me in such a polite and professional way that it would cost us $150 to replace the cement. I spoke to my brother and he was good spending that to bring the headstone back to its original grandeur. I was very pleased on how Serenedy treated me and took the time to assist me in our time of need. They were very supportive and understanding about how important this was to the family that my Dad and Mom had the same headstone. I give him a lot of credit for this because he was very supportive of my feelings and I think that was very important to myself and my family. Greenlawn was the worst experience next to losing my loved one. The staff was mildly sympathetic, while at the viewing, they didn't put all the jewelry on my mother, and it wasn't until we noticed and mentioned that the jewelry was returned and not placed with my mother Like we requested. Next, the wholes we paid for to put flowers for my mother were not dug until we complained, a month after her service. Finally, we were told they have had my mother headstone for two weeks, and it still has not been placed. This company has little regard for the loved and lost. I have called to speak to the cemetery supervisor to inquire as to why these missteps happened, and he has been unavailable multiple times. They unfortunately care little about people and their pain. They do nothing to make this transition easy. In fact, they only add to the stress of loss. read more

Greenlawn River Blvd did the worst job for my husbands viewing.. I know he has passed and he is not breathing but my god he does not have to look that way. I or my daughter should have had a chance to okay him before his viewing. I am beyond pissed. My daughter kept saying that's not my dad. I know its not him and his spirit is no longer in his body, but really I would have not wanted a viewing if we had known he would look like he was choking on cotton. I give Greenlawn no stars. We have a family member at this location and have had a problem with people stealing sentimental items we leave for our loved one. When we share our concerns with management they tell us there's not much they can do. They have a security there that's only present for a few hours and when there spends majority of time in one spot on the phone. This has happened for years! Managements response over the years has become harsh. They now tell us to try leave items that are less expensive and that people don't want. My daughter's hand drawings, crafts, and heart felt notes have even been taken. Management can do more but they choose not to. read more

We had to bury our 18mth daughter last March 24th here. It was and still is a hard thing to deal with. The holidays to come will always be hard. But its EVEN HARDER when Greenlawn removes any sort of decoration or balloon put on my daughter's grave. We can't even decorate for her 1yr anniversary or Easter. Was conflicted about posting this but I'm hoping it may help a family in need. First and foremost the staff here was great and while I'm a little upset about what happened they made it right in the end. I was helping some young cousins navigate their mother's death. All they wanted was a simple cremation. None of them had any money and this was all funded through a gofundme. This was explained at the time of the initial meeting. I 100% realize this is a business and they need to make money. It's also a hard place to be in as their customers are dealing with some of the worst times in their lives. We were sold a standard package which included no frills except a nicer urn for the ashes. After all was said and done we discovered a cheaper online package that would have saved over 1k in cost. Again I realize this is a business but this situation merited saving as much money as possible and we were not told about said package. I did reach out to them after the fact and they made everything right but I really wish an attempt was made to tell us all of our options. I'm writing this review for people in similar situations. Ask about the online package if your needs are simple. read more

My brother was laid to rest in July 2022. We were told his marker would take 6 weeks. All money due was paid in advance as requested and instructions for the marker were given and approved. We dealt with Juan , he assured us everything would be taken care of. Two months later I called and asked why the marker had not been put on yet. He then stated he needed to turn in the marker photos. He had been given everything before the services. Still another month went by and nothing had been done! We spoke to Fidel Juan's supervisor and said he would fix the problem. We constantly kept calling to check if there was any progress , NONE! They kept dropping the ball and blaming each other for the delays. Last call to Greenlawn on February 1, 2023, seven-months later and the marker was placed last week yet no one called to inform me!! They, unfortunately, are all very incompetent and do not get anything done without getting pushed!! So sad and disappointing that they make people go through this during a time when you're still grieving and have to deal with something like this. I would think twice before using them. read more

An open green space to come and respect your loved ones. Lots of room to walk and observe while paying your respects. Not the most beautiful cemetery but nice enough. There is a beautiful backdrop with the Panorama Bluffs to the north. In my experience the people who come to see their loved ones are very respectful. People respect the dead in various ways including by playing music, having a few drinks, and bringing their kids out to observe. Inviting and humble, definitely recommended. read more

I drove 4 hours from Monterey to this place to see my deceased Mother. I was informed by the office exchange that the mortuary had just closed at 5pm and I could not see her until her funeral. She was found passed away the same morning. I'm a medical doctor, I was given every excuse why they would not let me see my Mom, from she not "prepared " for viewing, to the staff needs to go home. If it wasn't for my persistence and professional background, I would not been able to see her that night at 6pm ! They did open the facility and let me be with her with the understanding it would not be for more than for 30minutes because of staffing! This occurred on 12/19/18; I've been too traumatize to document it until now. Regardless of what I think of this group, I'm grateful to have been with my Mom. I'm less than impressed. I feel like the funeral home really "stuck it to us" when we were at our most vulnerable. They came out promptly and were very respectful in picking up my mother who passed at home. We live literally right around the corner from the mortuary. Probably 1/8 of a mile? The charge for that was $245. My mother wanted no funeral or anything. Just to be cremated and nothing more. So, in addition to the $245 to transport her 1/8 of a mile, it was an additional $68 for a black plastic box to put her ashes in. We weren't purchasing an urn because her ashes were going to be sprinkled at a specific place. That same box is $14.95 on amazon. Then I think it was somewhere around $200 for a cremation casket or box to be cremated in. All total the whole process came to about $2,300. Thats just a cremation. Nothing else. Now that it's been a month since her passing I've been doing a lot of thinking and so I decided to do a comparison with another funeral home nearby that has good reviews. Their cremation is $845 and that INCLUDES the black plastic box to put the ashes in and it INCLUDES them picking up the deceased and transporting them to the funeral home (within 35 miles). The only other thing you have to pay for is the death certificate ($14 for the first and $11 for any extras) and the cremation casket which they also offer a simple cremation zippered pouch for $50. My mother was very thrifty, and she wanted no additional expenses if they could be avoided. This was HER wish. So, all together our total expense with Midwest Cremation Services here in Springfield Mo would have been $909. The same exact services at Greenlawn were $2,300. Thats a huge difference. I do realize prices vary but now I'm beginning to feel like we were taken royally advantage of at a time when we were in shock and very vulnerable. They know this and that's when they strike. I'm that weird girl that hunts for the oldest cemeteries in town. The one that searches Topo maps, and old USGS maps for long-forgotten family plots. When choosing the next travel destination you can bet we'll be using Yelp to find the best hidden gems to eat, but also cemeteries to check out. Honestly, nothing gives you better insight into an area than their residents. And even though these residents aren't talking, their stories are still there to be heard. With a little research, you can unearth stories of even the most plain of people. It's really fascinating if you have the time. Plus, cemeteries are great places to walk. To be honest, Greenlawn isn't my favorite cemetery in town. But it does have several of my family members interned. I don't visit as often as I should, but the caretakers do a fairly good job of taking care of headstones and the surrounding areas. Even in this drought, the grass looks nicely cared for. Up close, the chapel is a little dated. The wood detailing looks a bit fake and cheap; but the carpets are clean, windows washed, and everything is how it should be with a chapel you never expect to use. read more

We frequent the cemetery at least once a month to lay down flowers on family member's graves. We have also bought 3 plots to be near family when we leave this Earth. So needless to say, we are well invested in this place. Sad to say, we have to bring our own weedeater to maintain the headstones at least once a month. We noticed they may do it once every 3 months as with mowing the lawns yikes. Lots of weeds, ants, etc. There is supposed to be a contracted perpetual care of the gravestones. This bothers me every time we visit. *also concerned with the concrete settings of the older headstones that are falling apart. Even if a family member doesn't bring it to the office's attention, they should still replace the broken concrete as part of "perpetual care." That's sad. read more

It took our family two years to decide what we wanted on our mother's gravesite marker. This year we finalized the decision with the help of Jim Lamar. As far as the cost, Jim researched past emails between a family member and a former employee of Greenlawn to find that the employee wasn't clear about whether the marker was already pad for or not. To lesson the impact that this difficult and confusing email issue could have had on our family, Jim gifted the marker to our family. What else could I say? This was an act of care and love for our family. Thank you Jim Lamar (Greenlawn) for displaying integrity, understanding, and care for my family about this. Good luck getting anyone to answer your questions or return a phone call. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the level of communication Kimbria called us unprofessional and stated she would no longer deal with us. I'm sorry.... First, it's not the mourning families job to be professional!!!! It's yours!!!! Second, you wouldn't "deal with us" in the first place. You ignored us!!! Hence the reason we were dissatisfied with communication!!!! At minimum there should be good communication. The whole experience was stressful!!! They wouldn't even communicate with the church about the memorial DVD that was not provided in time agreed for the funeral. The embalmer clearly put zero effort into him and a lot of makeup .The man that sold the plot to my family was very rude and pushy (the opposite of what you need in a time like that) . horrible service...I truly dislike how they are always removing the decorations we take to place on the Graves of our loved ones..my brother and nephew are resting next to each other and their decorations are always removed and thrown in trash...and also we have found their flowers on Graves near theirs..I see other sites beautifully decorated and nothing moved..m these sites are always full of beautiful decorations.. yet all we take end up in the trash..we have contacted the office and they have horrible customer service very unprofessional, show no sympathy for the family of the deceased...they charge all this money for everything the least they can do is allow the family to decorate the sites.. read more

The Sales department is certainly no "Friend of the Family" as they like to say. I worked with Mario in the sales dept for over a month trying to get my Mom's headstone info in order. I decided to order it from another business and have it delivered to Greenlawn northeast and once he found out that I wasn't going to buy it for him then he hardly helped and he actually gave me the incorrect shipping address. Can you believe it? I finally had to contact our funeral director Kimbria and she was so helpful. Then when I went in to pay Greenlawn for the setting fee for the headstone there wasn't an invoice ready so the ladies in the office called Mario and he couldn't be bothered to answer a few questions, just horrible, and he said he didn't know anything about it eventhough I have emails from him. Luckily the ladies at the front office were also helpful so they figured it out. Only some people there are professional but the Sales dept. is not!! read more

They were very compassionate and helpful when the time came and our family was very happy with how the services turned out! went to a funeral today and was into it at graveside for about 40 minutes and a crew of 8 ran a bulldozer up dumped dirt into a grave that was 20 feet away from the current one going on AND USED A VERY LOUD TAMPING MACHINE THROWING DIRT AND DUST ON ALL THE PEOPLE AT THE OTHER FUNERAL AND BASICALLY RAN EVERYONE OFF AND SHORTED THE FUNERAL. Today, June 11th marks the 15 year of my sisters passing. I have gone every major holiday and her birthday and the day that she left..I have always left some sort of special gift for her and pinwheels too.Those will spin as I talk to her and I think its her way of letting me know she's okay and knows I am there.Today I was approached by Jess, the grounds manager and he very rudely told me "I can not place anything on her head stone nor any pin wheels " as he takes them off every grave every morning. He told me to take my "stuff" with me when I left or he would throw it away.He them proceeded tp rip flowers off several site close to where my sister is.After a short time I noticed him sitting a short distance behind my car, guess he was waiting for me to leave. I did call the office and also 23 news.This is not how I want to be treated when I go visit my sister and Jess you have made my anxiety hell and worse than it has been in along time..other sites had balloons and flowers but he said that was okay as it was their birthdays.He didn't even ask what I was there for what was special about today...Shame on you Green Lawn and Jess too.... read more
