Great place but it burned to the ground last fall. A food truck has kinda moved in a few blocks North.

We stumbled upon a little place for breakfast the other day while in International Falls, called…read morethe library. Unless you know of the place, you could vary well drive right past it. Just off Hwy 11 by a rent all. The library roasts it's own coffee for starter, you walk in and it has a Library feel to it. You order at the counter and take a seat in a couple different areas , kind of like a study room. The server brought our coffee (in our case) and when the food was ready She brought it to. To start the coffee was one of the best I've had in a long time. I ordered the build your own omelet, with toast. As we were waiting for our order I noticed that the place was filling up. I commented to Nancy "we beat the rush". The place is well known in town. Good food excellent coffee. Do not drive past this place you will be sorry you missed it.

My friend and I stopped by for a quick breakfast/coffee stop…read more We were initially intrigued by the whole library concept and it's definitely a unique place for it. We found out that all these books were up for grabs and donated here for people to take for free. I really love that. I honestly wish I had more time to browse, but the books were all jumbled up (unlike an actual library) and would literally take a whole day or more to browse thru. But, it was nice to know. In terms of dining in - you first order at the counter, take a number and they bring it to your table when it's ready. The food is really quite simple. You literally get what you order - nothing fancy. I personally ordered the omelette (with sausage/mushrooms) & a side of hash browns. The omelette was literally the sausage and mushroom in between a rolled up thin egg. The hashbrown was also just a jumble of fried thinly cut potato slices. It was really made so simply and different from what I expected, but it was fair considering that it was a good price for what they offered. I also ordered the cookie dough iced coffee. They had tons of torani syrups in the back, so I definitely knew that they were using these syrups to bring out the flavor. It wasn't super authentic flavor, but was a good option for a quick coffee run.

Loony's Brew is a laid back dive bar / pub located in the quaint village town of Ranier, Minnesota…read more To be more precise about Ranier, MN, it's situated right beside the once bustling industrial town of International Falls, MN...just 3 miles away. And, lol, in the bigger picture of it all, if you're visiting International Falls, MN, you're most likely in this remote part of Northern Minnesota exploring Voyageurs National Park. That's where it started for me. I had just completed time at Voyageurs NP and while speaking with a representative at the International Falls Chamber of Commerce, they recommended stopping here at Loony's Brew. Once in Ranier, parking was difficult, but I found a spot across the train tracks. I didn't mind walking 10 minutes over to Loony's as it gave me insight into what made Ranier unique...definitely a small town/local vibe as if I had stepped back in time. Loony's appearance on the outside reminded me of a simple summerhouse cottage along the waterfront with a dock in the backyard for accessing Rainy Lake. Overall, it's like staying at a lake house in the countryside. Although there's no official sign for customers to know they've arrived at Loony's Brew, there's a wooden post hanging by the entrance with a message stating...."PUB, BEER, FOOD, WINE, GOOD TIMES". Loony's has a playful/old fashioned bar kind of feel. You could sense the owners knew the specific tone they wanted to provide for patrons. The bar has an assortment of homegrown, locally brewed beers on tap....According to their website, they feature - "American, Hoppy, Belgian, Stouts & Porters, Fruits, Gruits, Lagers, NAs, and Barleywines". Loony's is decorated with classic guitars, vintage license plates and loads of symbolic mementos dedicated to their history. There's a back/rear section area featuring a billiards table, jukebox and dartboard. Situated all around are high-top tables and chairs. Plus, there's a small corner for showcasing local bands and musical acts. I ordered a beer, took it outside and walked across the street to the Brew Deck Bar area for enjoying views of Sand Bay beside Rainy Lake. The setting was pleasantly quiet. There's even a little pier where you can walk towards a rustic lighthouse. Overall, Loony's Brew is a worthwhile place to come after your discoveries at Voyageurs National Park. It's a no hassle, no fuss brewery that embodies the blue-collar town of Ranier, MN.

I started my meal with The Cornerstone Salad (mixed greens, strawberries, red onions, feta, candied pecans, signature strawberry balsamic vinaigrette). I was blown away by this salad. The greens were fresh, the strawberries were ripe, sweet and plentiful, the candied pecans were crunchy, and the signature strawberry balsamic vinaigrette brought all the flavors together perfectly. It was a lovely light and refreshing salad. For my main I ordered the Chicken Bacon Mushroom Carbonara (fettuccine, roasted chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, sauteed creminis, garlic Back Oven sourdough). This dish was so rich and decadent - a heart attack on a plate - but delicious! The flavor of the sauteed creminis was enhanced by the creamy sauce, and the smoked bacon added a nice overall touch. Service was OK; I did takeout and it took much longer for the food to be ready than originally promised, but the wait was worth it. I also absolutely loved how all the takeout packaging was eco-friendly, no plastic at all! Street parking available. TLDR; good food, eco-friendly takeout packaging, highly recommended
