I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because originally I was promptly responded to in an inquiry about possibly holding an event here. After a few emails back and forth with one of the event coordinators, I was told that i would receive a proposal soon via email. It has been 3 weeks since I heard from her. 2 emails and a phone call later with absolutely no response and I've moved on. You cannot expect to run a catering business that way. People need to be promptly responded to. After learning that the event coordinators had been to a conference when i called.. I was willing to give a second chance. That's been a week since that call and still nothing. I have moved on with my plans in a different direction, but I felt it was necessary to caution those who consider them, and maybe bring a little light to the catering staff and owner. Also.. I had ordered the boysenberry cream cheese pie at Christmas and it was terrible. Normally the food is super good here, but I would steer clear of that if you are considering. read more

The food quality here has continually fallen throughout the years. Chicken and turkey which are the bulk of their entree items are consistently dry and tasteless. I had a Chinese chicken salad today and it was typical of what comes out of the kitchen lately. Dry chicken, two small strips of fried wonton, lots of lettuce, a tasteless vinaigrette without any hint of sesame or peanut flavor, no mandarin orange or other fruit to liven it up, all for $10. I might as well have purchased a salad kit at the grocery store; I might at least have gotten some fried noodles or a dressing with flavor. My group of 10 left 3 salads and several entrees on the table, it wasn't even worth taking it home. Continually disappointing. Great service, great food, great atmosphere! My husband and I were walking around downtown and stopped in! I'm glad we did! We sat at the bar, and the bartender was amazing! He said he was 4 days into working there, and the way he talked he knew his stuff! We ordered the cheese plate, which was delicious! Then followed dessert..the chefs were playing around with a few recipes and I'm glad we got to try the dessert! It was so good, that my husband and I had to order one for each of us! Came here with my wife, on our date night. We had an absolute blast. She was drinking wine and I was drinking a nice craft beer. We selected to share a cheese board - which was really good. After that we ordered the desert they had on the menu, and it was amazing. We were at the bar area, and had a great time talking to the bartender and another husband and wife sitting there. I recently came to Greens for lunch to try something new. The food was great. I came with a few co-workers so we all ordered different dishes to get a taste of everything. I have to say, the food was great. From the fresh sandwiches to the crisp salads, it was tasty. The food is the only reason I'm giving this restaurant two stars. Being from Southern California, the food is definitely up to par. However the customer service is a whole different story. It was absolutely, incredibly, and so embarrassingly awful. Our waitress was so rude, it nearly ruined the entire experience. She was very unhelpful, impatient, and unsuccessful in delivering well rounded customer service. I've never felt so bad leaving a restaurant before, it was as if she did not want our service. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to discover that Greens is now open for dinner on weekends; we've eaten here for lunch a few time and have always enjoyed the food. The dinner menu is small, but there is plenty to please my vegetarian palate and his meat eating one. The ingredients were fresh and cooked perfectly. My husband had the macaroni and cheese with thickly cut bacon. He said it was cheesy and amazing. I had the grilled vegetables with goat cheese. They even modified the dish for me when I said I didn't like mushrooms. We also split the eggplant fries, which were crispy and delicious without feeling too heavy or greasy. All in all, the food and service were fantastic. We will certainly be returning next time we are looking for a quiet date night and deliciously fresh food. read more

First there is a bit of a backstory on our visit to Greens on Tenth. My wife attended a private Christmas party at the owners of Greens in her home in Modesto. She was so impressed that the food the owner cooked she bought 100.00 worth of gift certificates so I could enjoy the food. I looked at the menu and realized that the food was nothing like she was served at the holiday party. Basically it is an overpriced sub shop that serves burgers and salads. The observation when we when there on 2/3/17 is there was one server that was serving,orders,bar tending,busing,hosting, I felt sorry for her since there was two twenty ish guys in the back one just walking around and one on his phone. There was also a guy walking around with a chef's jacket on that was not doing anything and a girl that I think was the manger that following suit. Now to the food: I ordered a cheese steak and salad it was OK for the exception that the cook put the order under the heat lamp so my salad was warm. I chose the house dressing that just tasted like olive oil. I ordered the Tomato-basil soup that tasted very acidic.Since there were no salt and pepper shakers on the table I took one from the service station.A few dashes of salt made the soup better. A pinch of basil would have made the presentation better. My Wife's burger was also tasteless. She was charged an extra 2.00 just to have fries. Go Figure.The iced tea was very thin tasting. The last arrow to the heart is to this place is the line cook did not use gloves when he was preparing the raw ingredients. An when we were leaving a customer complained that the fish for her meal was raw and sent it back.The server was arguing with the line cook about making a new fillet and the guy put the old fillet back on the grill and then into a convection microwave to cook it. Sad at best. If the cook would have used an instant read thermometer the first time the fish would have come out correctly the first time We have 75.00 of the gift certificate left maybe I can sell them for 15.00 each on e-bay because I will not come back.I hope the owner reads this and correct this problem read more

One of the worst dining experiences ever. I asked for a Bloody Mary from the full bar and was told that they can't do that right now. Asked for a mimosa, also no but we can "come back later for happy hour". We both ordered the cheesesteak asked for fresh jalapeños and got pickled. It said fiscalini and in description states blue cheese- was not blue cheese. The cook brought our meal out which was nice because the server probably never would. The garlic fries were weird. They were super crispy and more like potato chips (those were actually good the homemade pot chips) I waited and tried to get servers attention but to no avail to ask for ketchup. I went up to the bar and asked him and another person for ketchup. He ignored me completely and she said she would get it but would take a minute. She took 3 orders, took food out, processed credit card walking by us multiple times. This person I assume was the manager. She was more concerned with taking extra place settings off tables than checking if the paying customers were okay. He STILL never came to our table. FINALLY she came to see if she could clear our plates as my husband's was empty and mine still had sandwich and a lot of fries. I didn't say yes but I said I still haven't got my ketchup and I am not paying extra for the garlic fries that are now cold. She takes our plates and as she walks away says she will take mine off. No sorry, nothing. I have been a server for over a decade in my teens through my twenties. I have worked in fine dining and diners from Miami to North Carolina to the beautiful Sierra Nevada's. Now both of us are medical professionals. My husband says that I am an over tipper. This is the first time in my life I didn't leave a tip. Don't let my tattoos fool you people, we have money and love to spend it on GOOD food and wine. This restaurant is a bar rescue/restaurant impossible field day. Pretty sure all the people who left reviews have something to do with the restaurant since it's their only reviews ever... let me proceed by saying I enjoyed the 15 or 18 dollar cheese plate, delicious. Then we had to figure out what we had for dinner which wasn't hard because there were only 4 choices. Chicken, Ahi, Tofu and Pork tenderloin. We chose the most expensive item on the menu, Pork Tenderloin with purple potatoes and asparagus. The dish came out and I was shocked. For 27 or 28 dollars a plate we got very little dry pork tenderloin, 4 very small white potatoes and a few sprigs of asparagus. I felt so deceived by all these phoney reviews. Next time I'll be sure to look for how many reviews the yelpers have. Freaking ridiculous. I love the Greens on Bangs but this one is way over priced for the portions and quality of food. I eat out a lot in Modesto. I'm really into food. Far from the best place in Modesto. Go to Concetta for a way better meal. read more

Tried this place since their other location closed or is relocating, sadly the customer service isn't any better. I definitely think they need more than one waiter to attend the restaurant. The waiter was just chit chatting with the two chefs in the back when I came in, and waited nearly 10mins to be helped. She was all over the place and the place was dirty since she wasn't able to keep up with cleaning the tables or the bar after the customers left. Didn't have any tea ready, nor any cold drinks. I ordered the fig Brie ham sandwich and it was served on SUPER STALE French bread? It definitely wasn't ciabatta bread. The chips were good and so was my husbands tuna melt. This review is in conjunction with the Downtown Modesto Sampler. We went by here about 6:30 pm with the program beginning at 5:30. At that time they were completely out of food to sample. We were surprised since they did catering and thought they of all restaurants we be able to plan for the large groups of people. In all fairness many of the establishments said that the number of people that showed up in comparison to the number they were told to anticipate was close to doubled so we decided to go back about 8:00 pm and try them. When we got there they did have food out however it was cold cuts and anti-pasta type food with no napkins, no one serving, no toothpicks, forks etc. With the amount of people strolling through and no one serving to ensure proper food safety we decided not to try their food. I don't know that I would trust them in catering an event due to what I saw. read more

I gave this restaurant 3 times to get it right First time was very good. Second time there was a timing issue. Our appetizer took an hour to arrive, and as we were served we could see the chef put the steaks on the grill. So, the steaks were all well done which was not ok. Last night was the final straw. Ordered wine that was not available. Napkins on the table were the paper type used for a bar drink in a sports pub. Someone didn't order any of the right size. I ordered a cob salad which had no dressing despite being told it was a special Cobb dressing. When I was provided with blue cheese dressing the salad was palatable. There was no decaf coffee. Only dessert available would take 30 minutes to prepare. (I read that as defrost) Service was ok cuz no one else was in the store!!! The stuffed pepper ordered was vegetarian but was not identified as such. And it cost $20 for one rice stuffed pepper. Very disappointing experience. Greens on the tenth is one of my favorite places to have lunch at. Their menu is simple and to the point. The waiters/waitresses are very attentive to tables. This is a place where one can eat alone and feel comfortable. As for food, it is delicious. My favorite item on the menu is their tomato soup with fiscalini cheddar sandwich. Their wraps, potato chips, and salads are also delicious. Parking during the lunch rush might be difficult. read more

After reading about Greens on 10th serving up craft cocktails in Modesto, my husband and I decided to give them a try! We had already made an attempt to go for a drink about a month ago...but to our surprise-they were closed. This time I made sure to check the website for specific times and we were in luck...or were we??! We opened the door to a great space with zero customers! That should have been our first clue! The waitress asked if we were there for lunch and we told her we were just there for some drinks. When I asked for the specialty cocktail list she handed me a sheet with four drinks listed...all of them standard at most bars. My husband ordered a margarita described as "lime juice, lemon juice and tequila". I ordered the one thing that sounded like it might be "fresh"...a Tropical Limeade described as, "fresh squeezed lime juice and rum". The husband got a standard margarita but it was by no means great. I was served a drink with sweet and sour, rum and Sprite! It tasted like a kid's drink at a birthday party! Not only was the drink awful...but it had only one of the ingredients listed-rum! Needless to say, we won't be back. Oh Greens, I so want to love you. If I was rating for the food only I would give five (six!) stars..,but the service continually drives me nuts. The servers are as nice as can be, but it is like they are not trained. Not attentive, forget requests, never check back. It's ridiculous. My work uses them for catering our events and I have tasted some good things and some not so good things. I recently ate at the restaurant for our Christmas lunch and was not impressed at all. Several of my co-workers were also disappointed. My salmon was cold and my friend's was raw, so she sent it back and it still came back uncooked. The mashed potatoes were runny and the vegetables were cold and overcooked. The only decent part of the meal was the salad and the dessert. I highly doubt I will be back. read more

I have been busy so I couldn't write a review sooner. I went in with my wife last week for dinner, and let me tell you, HANDS DOWN THE BEST FOOD IVE HAD IN MODESTO!!! I ordered the braised short ribs and my wife got the chicken. The braised ribs were to die for. Tender, easy to eat, and the sauce was like no other I have ever had!!! I had some of my wife's chicken and it was just as good! It had some type of apricot sauce that was out of this world. It was a beautiful setting and nice open kitchen concept to where you can see the chefs prepare your food. The wait staff was extremely nice and on the ball. What really surprised me was that the chef that made our food took time to see how we liked things and introduced himself. Justin(one of the chefs)was very knowledgeable about the food and he had explain he was new along with the main chef (Nichole). Both were extremely nice and very knowledgeable. WOW! The servers are ridiculously scatterbrained and unorganized. We went for lunch-meaning-we are on a schedule and have to get back to work-not an unusual concept. It took us about 2 minutes to decide what we wanted and about 20 minutes for our server to take our order. He kept saying things like, I have to take some chairs outside then I can take your order...After 35 minutes, we asked how much longer it would be before our food arrived, a salad and a burger, he said five minutes because the burger will take longer to cook because it was ordered med-well. I've been cooking for years and happen to know it never takes longer than 10 minuted to cook a burger to the point it is a hockey puck. 15 more minutes go by and we had to ask for our order to go. Which took our scatterbrained waiter so long to move it from plates to boxes. First he had to get some gloves, then move the salad to a box. Then he took off the gloves walked over, picked up the burger plate, got another pair of gloves, slowly moved the burger to the box and neglected to give us utensils with which to eat said salad...so we had to ask for forks. There was absolutely no sense of urgency! Painful! About 345 when our meeting after lunch were finished, we finally found 5 minutes in which to inhale soggy salad and cold soggy burger.
