Central Brunswick Centre is not bulk-billed, but it is rebated by Medicare, so your average cost for a consultation is about $30. The staff are super friendly and you don't have to wait too long when you book an appointment. When it comes to your health you can never be too careful but I wouldn't trust anywhere else.

So a lot of the LGBT community are patients here and can get sexual advice and check ups in a comfortable environment. I'm straight but I come here because the doctors, receptionists and facilities are amazing. I've been to a few doctors here. Ken Koh is very helpful, and when I left the appointment he even called me on his private office line to double check whether or not I'd had certain vaccines. Fiona Bishop is fantastic, and is always on high demand. When I first wanted to come to this clinic she wasn't taking on any new patients, but six months later I somehow managed to weasel my way onto her regular patient's list. She's compassionate, but firm, and made me piss myself when I walked in with a nasty virus and she spent our entire consultation with a face mask on. (I was very contagious.) James Kennedy is a sweetheart and has a lovely Irish accent that will make you forget all of your ails. The nurse is also incredibly kind and considerate. My ears get blocked often so I come here to get them flushed out. Having water flushed into your middle ear isn't exactly pleasant and can leave you feeling nauseous, so the nurse sat and chatted with me while the room stopped spinning. Some important things to note: - You're able to claim most of the bill back through medicare, and the ladies at reception can help you set things up so those returns are paid directly to your account. - There's a pathology clinic down the hall so you can get your tests done in one hit. - If you're catching public transport, this place can be a bit difficult to find. They don't have parking onsite, however, you can park at the shopping centre and hoof it over to the clinic or park on a side street; provided you're in a physical position to do so. There's also a bus stop at the shopping centre and a train station down the road if you don't mind more of a hike. Ambience **** The waiting room at the clinic has warm tones, stylish furniture and decore. There's a water cooler, a round of soft couches at pram height so bubs can keep an eye on their wayward mums, and stiff chairs for those who prefer sitting up straight. Tissues and sanitizer gel is availabe at the counter. The bathroom can be fun to get to if you're not into reading signs or paying attention to instruction; mens is furthest from the lift, and ladies is closest to the clinic. I'm not a baby person, I don't plan on making one anytime soon, and so I find the majority of magazine-ware and kids' colouring-in on offer grates my eyeballs. I have to admit it keeps the ankle biters and talkative mums busy while I wait for my appointments, though. Most of the consultation rooms (if not all) have an examination bed which can be a bit offputting when your eye catches the conveniently placed lamps. Services on offer **** Family planning from each end of the spectrum and full-on LADIES business. Though I've seen a guy on his own here as well, not sure why, and wasn't going to pry. I can only comment on the contraceptive and general health side of things, so if you're planning family, I'm no help. The doctors are WELL informed on multiple contraceptive methods and explain in easy-to-understand terms what effects each one might come with. Service **** Now that I've learned that a lady Dr I know of personally hates that she's automatically lumped into dealing with women regularly instead of being utilised in a more broad spectrum at a general practice, I go here. More often than not, I end up waiting for my doctor; she seems to be running late no matter what time of day it is, but that's what iPhones were invented for, right? Past that, I couldn't ask for better dealings with the doctors and nurses working here. Thus far I've had basic check-ups, contraceptive consultations, pap smears, you-name-it-I've-had-it test consultations and results, and an IUD procedure (heaven on earth don't get me started on this!). I've always walked away happy with what I've been told (albeit at times somewhat scared); particularly on my last visit I was overwhelmed by the care the staff showed: so far as an offer of iced tea when I took a bit of a turn. As is becoming habit with health care providers, Healthy Women will send you an SMS reminder if you book and leave your mobile number with them - not sure about phoning you to give you a reminder if you leave a landline. Additional notes Being specifically a women's health clinic you might expect to pay a bit more than your family medical centre or GP. If that's the case I haven't noticed; in fact compared to some practices in Brisbane CBD, their consultation prices are very competitive, and they process your Medicare rebate when you pay at the end. That's if it works, make sure you check your receipt as mine was cancelled once and I had to hoof it to Medicare.

I've been in this hospital quite a few times over the years (and several times recently), either to…read morevisit someone else or be a patient myself. The hospital has a new feel to it because it is, relatively - a good decade or so they rearranged and rebuilt the whole complex. I've been in the E.R. (or "triage") a few times (kidneys misbehavin') and it's never fun to be a patient in hospital. However, there are "good" visits where you're seen to quickly and treated well and there are agonizing drawn-out visits where they've run out of beds and you're in the foetal position in a chair. I've experienced both in this hospital in the last two years. If you're ill on a Friday or Saturday night, you won't be seen to in E.R. quickly unless you're in extreme danger as the ward is filled with drunk idiots who've harmed themselves, as well as a few drug addicts who have stumbled into police hands. Generally I find the nurses here to be nice and helpful and the doctors absent-mindedly come and go. Usually during each E.R. visit you can expect to see up to three different doctors, and you have to get them all up to speed on your condition when they first visit. I find this to be a general hospital trend, though (at least in Australia and North America). From a completely different perspective, the pharmacy and the downstairs cafe here rock. I've had the best scones with jam and cream of my life at this cafe and the coffee is excellent, the vibe of the place funky. The last time I was here I noticed the cafe was closed, so I hope they're not shutting it down in favour of the new-ish large food court upstairs (though that's not bad food, either.) Also, the chemist here sells the best local artistic jewellery I've seen in Brisbane. The earrings in the $10-$20 range are fantastic; each is uniquely hand-crafted and the beads/stones are beautiful. Yep, the RBWH is my favourite jewellery store.

For the most part the staff are as helpful as they can be with someone with a chronic issue . Keeping in mind that this is a public hospital some of the nurses tend to treat chronic issues with disregard and disrespect. If you have the opportunity I would suggest going to another hospital as the RWBH has staff who can be rude and make you only feel worse then you did prior to coming in. A possible cause is it's proximity to the Valley night club district and they have seen their fare share of drug O/Ds and drunk lads passed out. My suggestion to any staff member in any occupation is that if you find that you can no longer do your job with respect and professionalism it's time to find a new career path.

When it first opened, like all clinics, we had no problem getting an appointment and getting in on the time we booked for. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and I thought hey, this could be our new doctor! In recent times, the waiting period has been very long... up to 1 hour. There are quite a few doctors here, but none are all that young. The other day I ran 15 minutes late because my daughter was running a fever and arrived there and the lady at the desk told me sorry I don't know how long you have to wait, you're late. I was a bit taken aback by her comment, because it doesn't take much to see I had a sick baby and all the other times I had to wait over an hour... the nerve. Anyway. I might put it down to the fact that maybe she was having a bad day... but I was not impressed. The doctor I saw was great and helpful... but the experience I had with the lady at reception had already left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. It is a good clinic, but expect to wait, and don't book your appointments for a Monday... you can easily wait over an hour like myself.

I had my first child here back in 2008 when the hospital had just opened, brand new. Thank god I…read morethought because the old one was looking a bit dated... okay that's a lie. Really dated. My health insurance hadn't kicked in in time so I was shunted rudely into the public system. But after a few visits here, they were really nice, everything was really new and best of all, I gave birth around Christmas New Years when everyone does and I was accidentally given a private room (score). No sharing for me and a little bedside window couch too for my husband to sleep on. Having said that though, cosmetics aside, sure the rooms are awesome, the labour ward looks better than your own room and has all of the state of the art equipment. In fact when I gave birth, I had about 20 people in there, a full resus team, a whole bunch of new residents (ahh the joys of the public system) and 2 doctors (probably residents too). I was a bit panicky because I'd never had a child before and my labour was reaching its 29th hour... and i'd been pushing my little heart out for a good 2 and a half hours. Long story short, the baby pooped in the water bag and they were all worried it had breathed some of it in. I have no doubt they were the best of the best and if anything went wrong, well, they have the states only and most state of the art neonatal care division so I wouldn't have to be transferred anywhere if anything did go wrong. This made up for the service... the midwives kept coming into my room and being rude to my husband, I think in the 3 days I was there I saw about 10 different midwives, all treating us differently... they were all kind of nice-ish, but they were treating us like a number, which I think comes with the whole public system thing. For example, I had no idea I was supposed to feed my baby right after giving birth, and I wanted 8 hours for a midwife to rotate in and ask me when the baby had last been fed and I replied... I haven't fed him yet. Met with a hmph and a 'well the midwife before should have made you feed him...' yeah yeah whatever. Baby malnourished here. Come on get your act together. But you get that. Overall, an excellent facility.

Although the wait times, going through the emergency department are long and not entirely consistent, the quality and respectfulness of the medical and administrative staff is very good. It was my local GP clinic receptionist who recommended I switch over to the Mater, after the last straw at another major across the river, and I am not looking back. Go the Mater !!
