Context: Having used them in prior years (2019/2020), we felt confident hiring them again to complete a larger project (deck rebuild, outdoor kitchen, stonework pathway/firepit, planting 5 trees, running a natural gas line, several boulders and some mulch work). Unfortunately, ownership changed at GreenTree (now owned by Spencer Edwards and Popoola Akande) and the work product and quality has gone significantly downhill. Unfortunately, we had to fire them and redo more than $20k of work that wasn't done up to code and/or corners were cut which would have caused problems longer term. Project started in May 2025, was supposed to take 2 weeks and was 58% complete by July 2025. Major concerns included: Overall: This was the worst managed project I've ever seen, which had a cast of shady characters who tried to cut corners every step of the way. To this day, I still wonder if they are running some sort of scam/fraudulent business. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE HIRE THIS COMPANY. Project Management: Tyler Mayhew, our project manager, was absolutely terrible. He would come to site 2-3 times per week, stay for a couple hours, then leave one very green person behind. The guy he left behind would often spend several hours a day in his truck because he didn't know what to do. Ultimately, Tyler walked off the job in mid June, blaming Spencer/GreenTree, saying they weren't paying him, and they were spreading him way to thin across multiple projects Deck Rebuild: we were installing a heavy pergola on top of the existing deck, so additional piles needed to be added. When the deck was pulled apart to do this, it was discovered that the original deck (built by GreenTree) wasn't mounted to the house correctly and our BBQ gas line was actually LOAD BEARING the stone deck. They of course wouldn't warranty the deck. GreenTree rebuilt the deck, but we found out later it was not built to code, and it had already begun to sink under the weight of the pergola. New contractor had to rebuild. Stairs: they built our stairs coming off the deck at different heights, a significant tripping hazard, especially for kids (we have a 2 and a 4-year-old) and our elderly parents (see posted pics). Again, new contractor had to rebuild. Beyond this, they didn't add any temporary stairs while they rebuilt the deck, so we had a major safety hazard for several weeks Gas line: they dug a large trench from the front of the house all the way to the back yard to connect our outdoor firepit with gas. Unfortunately, they dug this trench before they lined up the gas trades to come in and install the line. When they tried to get someone in, they said they couldn't find someone and "gas guys were in high demand". So, they left an open pit trench in our yard for several weeks. The kicker... I had to go find my own gas guy to get the job done while they sat back and did nothing. Even worse, because the trench was dug along the side of the house where people need to enter/exit the yard, they couldn't do any other work until the trench was backfilled. Terrible planning Stone pathway/fire pit: within weeks of this being installed, a number of stones started to settle and were no longer level Out door kitchen: this was the worst part of the whole job. They didn't have folks who were qualified to do this work. They put no concrete slab under the kitchen, which weighs hundreds of pounds and it begun to sink. They also used metal/aluminum framing materials, which weren't strong enough to support the stone. The entire kitchen needed to be redone by our new contractor House siding: they needed to remove a small roof line so the pergola could be installed but had no one who knew how to replace the hardy board siding on the house, so our external walls remained exposed to the elements for several weeks. Ultimately, they never finished the siding, and our new contractor had to complete Popoola (CFO): This guy is a very shady character. We are on an average & had a large burm in our yard. We've gathered big rocks over the last 20 yrs to make a fountain in that burm. We checked other companies & heard horror stories, but Greentree had some good reviews. Booked a consult in June & were given Aug for start date. The 2nd consult was disappointing as plans didn't look like our burm & none of our rocks were incorporated. They guaranteed us that there crew would create the fountain we dreamed of including our rocks with there's. Sept came & no one had shown up yet. The job was promised to be done for the 25 for a Birthday Party. My husband started calling them with getting no real start date. Equipment was dropped off & pu again a week later but no workers. Finally a crew showed up, no plans in hand & started building a stone wall as seen in last pic! When I tried to relay what we were wanting & I was totally ignored. They also couldn't use our rocks, they weren't flat enough! After 3 days of watching them work we had enough & wanted to cancel contract. The crew was let go & they promised again not to worry they would have a different crew come out to finish the job. A week later they showed up. Crew manager Andy shows up with one helper. The following day & a 1/2 he had 2 helpers. After the first day I was impressed with their work & felt a little more at ease. The 2nd day I wanted to hug that man, as he listened to my vision & created it using all our rocks! I can't give Andy enough praise! He was courteous, understanding, knowledgeable & hard working. I trusted him totally with completing the job & having it done the way we envisioned. Had to postpone party to Sat, but I finally have my dream & it's PERFECT! It started off with a great presentation from Dylan and a $60K price tag what we wanted done. We were told we would know when more than a week in advance when they were coming. One day we wake up to people ringing our doorbell saying they are here to start on our back yard. We were told by the PM it would be 4 days maybe, which we knew couldn't be true. By the time is was "done" it was over a year. And it was terrible work. It was miss estimated and it started to cost them a lot more than they thought it would be. As the job continued, head office obviously started pushing the crew to get it done and move on because they were not making the margins they wanted. The turf was laid incorrectly and was ripped up. But when it was re laid it was no better and because it was it was delivered weeks before it was installed so we still have flat spots on our turf. The stamped concrete was poured and then not sealed until the next spring because they ignored our calls and emails asking when it was going to be done. In the meantime, the concrete chipped and flaked and we were told because it was a year after there was no warranty. The trees that they planted were cedars, we asked if they were sure cedars can work here, we were told yes. We babied them all year and winter and every tree died because they do not work here. The tree portion of the quote was $5200... and we had to replace them all with what we wanted. Another convenient point is that cedars are the only tree that Greentree will not warranty. I would 100 percent never recommend this place. 60 thousand dollars are we more disappointed than we were with our old yard. They are dishonest and only into profits and not the customer. As reference the concrete pad was $18K and that is what we got. read more

Beware of this company. Gordon Neustateter the owner declared bankruptcy, but is also founder of a company called Tanzite. Had an extremely bad experience with this company to do my new build in 2017, which I am still dealing with through lawyer. Most dishonest company I have ever known. Like many reviewers at yelp here, my real experience on google got erased in less than 24hours. Becareful if they tell you this company tells you they are under new management. Gordon the owner has declared bankruptcy more than one time, and if you can search up a judgement, he would ask his mom to be owner of his new company, and actually still operates it under him, scamming people's hard earned money. Like other reviewers in Yelp here, when I searched for a landscaper, I got blinded by all those "5-stars" review, and the booth that they had in the Home and Garden Show. Their booklet shows beautifully done backyard, but the real work was far from looking like them. I ended up having to hire another company to rip up the whole yard to redo it, because it didn't pass final grade, and Greentree refused to take responsibility, other than playing tricks and blaming this or that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST. DO NOT BELIEVE THOSE SO CALLED "3-D" PLAN THAT THEY ADVERTISE ON THE RADIO. THIS COMPANY DOES VERY VERY VERY POOR WORK!! If they try to sell you stone tile from Tanzite, stay away too, as this is another of Gordon's company. Don't expect any "guarantee" from any business that's owned by Gordon. This guy somehow manages to keep doing businesses under false pretence. This company is also involved in scamming foreign workers from Europe. This was on the news. Greentree installed a stone deck from Tanzite.ca for me in 2019. While the deck is attractive, there has been one problem that neither Greentree nor Tanzite have been willing to properly correct. The stone tiles at the edge of the deck have an edge piece to create a slight lip at the edge of the deck for drainage and appearance. This edge piece, which is the same stone material, is glued to the tile with adhesive. The problem I have had is that this edge adhesive simply does not hold. The edge pieces have repeatedly fallen off, especially after during and after winter. The deck looks awful without them. Greentree re-glued all the pieces the year after I purchased it, but they have continued to fall off each winter. I have tried several adhesives to no permanent effect. They keep falling off. Greentree says they no longer install these decks. Tanzite will replace the faulty tiles but will not pay for shipping or the labour to install them. Don't buy a Tanzite stone deck without an iron-clad guarantee that they will replace any faulty edge tiles at their expense, including shipping and labour! In my experience you will definitely have faulty tiles. read more

Believe the bad reviews!!! Do NOT hire Greentree! We did read the bad reviews but ignored them because the designer was so convincing and assured us all would be good. As a result, we are stuck with an extremely expensive Tanzite deck and patio which is terrible. The new owner even admits the company is still learning about the "plank style Tanzite " stone product, and how to install it and they do not know how to fix issues with it (they can not figure out why the polymeric sand will not set between the stones!) The employees who install the product ,try their very best, but they do not know how to work with it and the company does not even support their crews by giving them the proper tools to work with the product ( blades that will not cut through the stone with out chipping the edges of the stone ). Very frustrating for the employees!! The new owner of Greentree is just as bad to deal with as the former owner...once the project is complete, the customer is abandoned and he will not fix deficiencies! Or if he agrees to fix the deficiencies, we were told that we would be charged for it! He admits fault and acknowledges issues, but will not do anything to rectify it! Ridiculous! If there was an awful rating I would have given it. Their concrete work was pathetic and sloped the wrong way. They got concrete everywhere, on our garage, fence etc. They took the whole summer to do a small back yard. Beware of their guarantee it is very long which protects them not you. I briefly worked for Greentree in 2021. We constantly received calls about the failure of the polymeric sand between the Tanzite Stonedeck product. I contacted the manufacturer of the polymeric sand product who told me it would not work due to the lack of minimum depth and the rubber liner as opposed to a gravel base. I brought this up with Gordon and the sales manager. I suggested a different product from Romex. They essentially told me that if it failed they could continue to charge the client to fix it. We spent 30,000 on our yard. In 2020 "they" did our yard. Today, stone is done shabby, the aluminum screen is upside down, they brought the wrong stone, a lot of it, TWICE WRONG. I settled for the other stone. The pergola was to be cedar...they used pressure treated hoping I wouldn't notice, being a woman they took full advantage of me. The Russian speaking men of 4 were rude, dismissive and trying to gaslight me into thinking that it was right. They also installed the wrong color railing, some black some grey? WTF??...Now to this day the deck is warping, the stone is cracking and lifting, the deck skirting, wrong color and peeling...now let's go to the flagstone, $100/stone, color peeling..they painted it!!..just a good thing I took time off work to be ther or the fiasco would've been so much worse than the horrible sressfull experience it was. These showed up on time and did the work ok, but what they quoted us for near on $30,000.00 was not what they provided. They installed a water feature with three rocks that were different heights the tallest one in the pictures of the quote was taller than an average man, so the cost was understandable, but what we got was a water feature with the tallest rock coming up to my hip and I'm 5'3". So guess we have to live with that. They also did a rock deck for us and they never sealed it properly and so there are loose rocks. The lights on the deck work when they feel like it. But what is most frustrating is it's been 3 years and every spring they promise to send out the warranty guy to fix all the things all the little things and here we are at the end of the season again and can't get a hold of him. Do not use this company under any circumstances UNLESS you want poor workmanship and service. Our deck was to be waterproof - it is not! Our deck was to have even paving stones - it does not! We trip on the stones every time we are out trying to use the deck. Greentree said they would come back and fit it - they came back once and made it worse. So after 4 years of fighting with them it is a lost cause. Overpriced, poor service and they DO NOT follow construction building codes. We hired Greentree to do redo most of our backyard. The work entailed removing the grass in the yard and replacing with artificial turf as well as a stone deck. We were told it would take about 6-8 weeks for the work to begin. However, within 10 days or so we were told the job could begin. Kabil, the foreman, came over to tell us the process and how long it would take for the job to complete. The crews showed up each day at around the same time and the job was done in a few days. The crew was polite and friendly. Kabil was very approachable and provided answers to any queries we had. Once the work was complete, the crew did a good job of clean-up. The landscaping looks excellent - we love it. The only issue we had was that the lights we bought had a fault. One of the lights would not come on. Kabil had to come back once and I explained the problem. He tried to repair it but it did not correct the issue. When I noted that the light was still not functioning, he came back a few days later and was able to correct the problem. The work was then complete. Thank you to Zach, Nick, Kabil and the crew for the work. We look forward to many hours outside in our newly refreshed back yard! read more

BUYER BEWARE! We still not been able to get our patio fixed even though it is covered under warranty. They are trying to blame the loose stones on us and that the problem is not noticeable and therefore they would not cover it under warranty. I reviewed them on Google at one star for the same complaint, and they actually reached out to my employer in an attempt to intimidate me. I requested a quote to do some compacting and leveling off of a new property I purchases last July 2nd . The design adviser was pretty rude from the get go. She said Green Tree doesn't do any work under 5k. I asked her how much my project would me; she replied "I don't know, Its not even worth my time to sit down and write up a quote for you" I understand that, But she seemed pretty annoyed that I had wasted her time coming to do a quote. I recommend staying away from that company unless you know your quote will give them a project worth at least 5k or more. :) read more

We renovated our entire backyard. We had an unfortunate situation with the company using Hardiboard for the step landings between the rocks that make the steps. After one year the hardiboard began to crumble! We approached them, and they immediately told us we were being hard on it and it was our fault. When we contacted Hardi they told us this material is NEVER to touch the ground (ie. a step riser) and that this is not the intended purpose. Its very unfortunate as now it is a big job to lift ALL the stairs to pull out the Hardiboard that is imbedded behind. We asked them within the warranty to chose a different material and they refused, delaying meetings and telling us they would "fix" it. When the contractor came to "fix" it he just laughed and said himself it could not be fixed and that this material should never have been used for that purpose. Another year later, we still don't have a fix and now they tell us the warranty is up... which I don't even think is the case! This company is great to defer issues. You need to be a "dog on a bone" with them to resolve any issue. After spending so much money on our backyard, it looks pretty cheap and crappy... not our vision after spending around $50,000. Our first visit with Greentree Outdoor Living started off poorly. We had a meeting scheduled with Nicole, but she was with another client and we didn't meet with her until 45 minutes after our scheduled appointment was to start. In the meantime, we met with a young girl who filled in for Nicole, while we waited. We provided her with some of our wants and needs. She wrote down the information and was very professional. Then we met with Nicole and it seemed that none of our information had been relayed to her. We left wondering why we bothered to provide the information in the first place. We met with Nicole on three occasions. Each time it was felt that our needs were not being met. We were clear on our budget of $12K to $15K. The designs that we were given did not come close to our budgeted amount. We were quoted $11K just to complete 1/8 of our yard. It was clearly specified on numerous occasions that we wanted a low maintenance yard. The design we were given is not low maintenance; 140 perennials, 40 shrubs and 10 trees does not make for a low maintenance yard! When I mentioned this, I was told that we would have lots of time, during retirement, to take care of the yard. Several times we mentioned we did not want trees with leaves, but they were added to the design anyway. We asked Nicole to provide us with two quotes; the Greentree version and the less costly version. We only received the high-end version - $45,000! We decided to tackle the landscaping ourselves and our landscaping is 90% complete. We are pleased to say that we will come in under $12K. It seems Greentree Outdoor Living's costs are overinflated. Unfortunately, most of their clients most likely have no idea of what it really costs to landscape and are being taken advantage of. Overall we felt the $1,500 deposit was a waste of our money. Very poor salesmanship! We met with Zac from Greentree to get some information on replacing our deck and other yard work. We told him right from the start our budget and that we would probably be dong the project of front and back yard over the next few years a little at a time. We were promised 3 options to chose from for Stage 1 of our work. We were given a quote (1 option) that was 3 times our specified budget and was nothing that we talked about initially. When we tried to discuss options that were more in our budget range we were told that we would be better off picking from the people that advertise services on the side of the road as we clearly could not afford them. He tried to justify this buy saying they have the additional cost of a show room (that was not very impressive in my opinion). I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Beware of those google reviews. I am not surprised that the people who wrote 1-star reviews here, have had their google reviews erased by Greentree. I am one of the people. Very poor workmanship, and very accusatory owner. Nothing is their fault. It seems the owner is very accustomed to dealing with complaints about their poor workmanship, and would not admit to any fault. If someone tried to take legal action, owner is very good to make it as difficult as it can be, hoping that since most new home owners cannot afford expensive and long legal battles, that they would eventually give up. Greentree would then not lose a cent, and these poor new owners would pay out of their own pocket to fix the mess. Myself is one of these victims. Having built our dream home, hired Greentree to do a total landscaping for the property. After paying them, nothing has passed the city. Owner instantly pointed the finger back to us. After consulting a lawyer, we were told cases like these can drag on for a few years, and this firm had experience with Greentree before. We decided, having a huge mortgage to pay, to not pursue Greentree. We ended up having to hire another contractor to redo the yard- an additional financial burden for retirees like us. Greentree is a scam. Do not trust those nice pictures from their website. If it's a small project like putting sod or shovelling snow, they may be ok. If you are looking to build any structures, or anything more sophisticated, I will look somewhere else. Their crews are terrible. read more

If you decide to use these guys, be prepare to have another reputable landscaper do it a second time, which means you have to pay for the demolition of poor work and then re-do everything. Only nice thing this company has is a colourful brochure with lots of colourful pictures. They also have a nice showroom. Their "warranty" is a farce. Terrible experience Designer Corey Cordeiro Owner Gordon Neustaeter Project started one month later than we were told, emails and telephone calls not returned to keep us updated. Several meetings cancelled at the last minute. Minimal respect shown for our time or schedule. We were promised Greentree does not start another project until ours was completed. Our project was to be 4 or 5 working days, it was completed in 7 weeks. Sloppy work included old concrete buried in the garden, fence rails buried in dirt, posts set incorrectly, and root balls on some shrubs exposed after planting just to name a few. Most plants and shrubs placed incorrectly, many not even in the correct beds. The final design plan was not on site and the plan on site was not followed. Greentree misrepresented what processes would be used, who was on their staff, how some materials would be selected and positioned and how something would be completed (most notably the grading). When things went wrong Greentree was unapologetic and accusatory. The concrete subcontractor was Tom, he communicated very well, answered emails and phone calls in a timely manner and would call if plans changed. I cannot recommend anyone use Greentree Oudoor Living. read more

DO NOT hire this company. We spend over $10,000 and ended up with our new driveway being stained with coloured concrete. The solution we discussed with thier concrete contractor and the "CEO" Gord was to seal our driveway with a tinted sealer to cover the stains. So we agree had it done in the fall and in the spring we had a horriblely peeled driveway where the sealer could be taken off with a pressure washer in spots. We complained and had Gord come out again and he would not do anything about it. We had to pay a contractor to come and grind our driveway clean. I would NEVER recommend Greentree, they don't own up to their responsibilities. Gord also didn't advise us that he was the "CEO" when I asked who I should email my complaint to he just gave me a generic email and didn't divulge it would be him. Not the way someone honest should be doing business. Also it was good we were home when the crew came out because the measurements from the "design" to reality were wrong. We corrected things with the field staff but got offered no discount when we again complained to Gord. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL, POOR VALUE FOR MONEY, LACK OF OVERSIGHT, MISREPRESENTATION, BAD WORKMANSHIP. Do not hire this company! They can make a good first impression, but then slowly after promising you this great looking design and top quality workmanship and getting one deposit after another, you will start to see that the work quality is poor. No one supervises the amateur carpenters and landscapers they hire. Our landscape crew were 2 French workers on work permit who barely spoke English. They had no idea how to implement the design we were promised and no one was there to supervise and guide them. The carpenters were not qualified and didn't understand how to make a 90 degree cut let alone more demanding cuts. Nicole, their foreman, was terrible and could not care less about delivering quality work. They left a mess in our drive way for weeks and throw their cigarette butts and fast food garbage under the porch they tried to build. Corey, the Landscape Designer and Project Manager was never there and was hard to talk to about all the above. He was great at promising though! And to make everything worse, the owner (Gordon) couldn't care less. Bare in mind, they were happy to cash in a cool $30,000 for this job- what a waste of money. Still fixing things after 2 years. Simply too many terrible stories to relay in this review. Please take my word for it and steer clear of this company. They are NOT as they try to appear. Beware of those so-called Google "5-star" reviews! Owner made up many reviews to show-case their different services, and target different people who are looking for these different services. After reading their reviews, I got tricked to believe they are really reasonably priced, do good work, and provide good customer services. None of these are true. Owner is very obnoxious if you complain about their work, and will NOT provide any after service. Their work is very amateur, and does not reflect the work of true craftsman or professional landscaper. Unless you are a lawyer yourself, or your job is big enough to warrant hiring of an expensive lawyer, do not hire this company. The back of their contract contains a clause regarding suing them, and the process is extremely difficult. Even if you want to take them to court, the clause says you have to do 30 days of negotiation, followed by 60 days of mediation, before you can even take them to court. I consulted with a legal service, and deemed it would be too expensive and time consuming to go through the process. I ended up having to hire another landscape company to fix all the mess. The owner was very accusatory and would not admit any of their poor craftsmanship. Avoid this company at all cost, and do not trust what you see in their brochure!! Very deceiving!
